Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
Mad Dog replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
I think there's few smarks left anymore to be honest. A lot of smarks have almost completely reverted back to marks and just accept the crap thrown at them by the WWF. The amount of praise Mark Henry is getting on some boards can only be coming from marks. The others just like to complain. It's funny seeing a poster completely contradict themselves when a company actually did what they wanted. Though I still believe that the net collectively went insane when Eddie died. -

Ha, I should've watched the next disc before asking if there was any footage. They had one on here. -

Man, how bad did your career have to be to job to the wrestling bear? EDIT: I think I've enjoyed Meltzer and Cornette's commentary more than the actual matches so far in that set. I think a lot of the current online posters should be forced to sit there and listen to it so they can actually learn something about what wrestling used to be. -

Meltzer and Cornette have mentioned the wrestling bear a few times on the Wrestling Gold set. Anyone actually seen or have one of these matches on tape? -
I completely disagree with you. Women are just as bad if not worse than men. While men do the stupid shit like hazing women will hold grudges forever and pick at each other over petty bullshit nonstop.

the Sheik vs. Tiger Jeet Singh - cage match Dear God some sick bastard had this go longer than 5 minutes. I know the Sheik is a legend and everything but I fucking hate his matches when it's more than a quick brawl. I just hate Tiger Jeet Singh.

Angle's broken neck comes from people's lack of knowledge about anatomy. You can actually break your neck or back and still operate normally. Angle could've easily just had an extreme case of whiplash and technically had a broken neck. Austin again comes from most online posters having no knowledge of wrestling pre-Attitude era. I'm constantly stunned by how few people have actually seen his work as Stunning Steve Austin. I still get a kick out of the people that act like Evolution was the greatest stable ever. It wasn't even as good as the Million Dollar Corporation and it was still pretty bad. But there's no way that Evolution is even near the level of the nWo or the Dangerous Alliance. -

I've also seen a lot of whining about New Japan ::gasps:: building Lesnar up by having him go over established talent in short matches. -

I guess this is what you have to live with when most of the current online posters are ignorant of anything pre Attitude era. It would be funny to see their reactions to wrestling television in the 80s. -

When did the net become so bizarro world towards what good booking is. I've seen endless complaining about the Impact squash matches and the fact that Sting isn't going to appear on tv before the PPV. Who in their right mind would give Sting away for free on tv before his big PPV match? -

Kid Kash vs. Dustin Rhodes - Final Resolution 05 Now this is how you work a small man vs. big man match. Kid Kash gets overwhelmed right off the bat by Rhodes and then fakes a knee injury to get control. He then spends the majority of the match just relentlessly attacking the knee of Rhodes. Rhodes to his credit sells like a champ during the whole thing. If you watch closely he never fully plants his foot or knee after Kash works it over except for a brief moment in the finish. Shawn Michaels could learn a lot from this match. ***1/4

I agree. A lot of the charm of older wrestling is the awful rings and cages.

Randy Savage vs. Jerry Lawler - cage match from Memphis This has to be the worst cage I've ever seen. It's a bunch of wood wired together and it about falls apart everytime someone touches it. I'm suprised Savage didn't kill himself trying to do a move off the top. Also liked the Adonis/Orton Jr. match. It's easily been the best match on the first 2 Wrestling Gold DVDs.

Watching the Wrestling Gold DVD set. Matches are so so for the most part but the commentary from Jim Cornette and Dave Meltzer really make it worthwhile.

I fear the day whatever spawn of HHH/Stephanie is old enough to wrestle. You just know if it's a boy that he'll be winning the WWF Title about 20 times. -

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how much the Joe hates rises as he climbs the ranks in TNA. -

Still. The last 2 hires have collectively ended 3 careers. Not a good thing.

I bet they don't even know he killed that guy. We'll probably see a newsbit in a month or two about how Vince just found out about it.

Criteria that I look for in all forms of wrestling
Mad Dog replied to World's Worst Man's topic in Resources
It really stikes me that Kurt Angle is the exact opposite of everything you look for in a match. Angle likes to just pop up and do a suplex. Especially if a guy hits a big move and then heads to the top rope. It seems selling to him is just a brief reaction to moves. Notice that Angle sets up his finisher by using it over and over in a match. It's not strange to see Angle going for the move 4 or 5 times in a given match without doing any leg work. This is just him being lazy though. How hard is it to do a chop block on someone's ankle before doing the move or even something as simple as a shin breaker? Angle's less guilty of fake looking moves but he's still guilty of this. The standing anklelock he does is pretty bad. You would think any competent worker would do it like Shamrock as it gives the guy you've applied it to less room to move around. Not very good here either without a superior worker. -
None of those matches have a Wrestlemania feel to them. I think there's only one way to go to make this year's Mania feel like Mania Title vs. Title: John Cena vs. Batista

Why not just sign Giant Silva back? He looks pretty similiar to this guy and he can at least work without killing somone. I also saw a lot of his NJPW work and he's awful. He's not akward like Giant Gonzalez or Heidenreich but he tends to not care about the health of his opponents.

The more time that goes by the more lucky Vince appears to have been with Hulkamania and the Attitude era.
