A thread in which we discuss Nigel McGuinness's woes
Blehschmidt replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
There was a period of time that I considered Nigel McGuiness one of my favorite wrestlers. I enjoyed the stuff he was doing in Ring of Honor from almost the beginning, and I enjoyed the ride of being a fan while he moved toward the top of the card. I was happy when he took the title from Morishima, and I enjoyed his title run despite the injuries. I own 2 Nigel t-shirts if it helps illustrate how much I enjoyed him. I didn't see his TNA run, because it is a show I just can't get into, but I was glad to hear he was doing well there. I was concerned with his health issues and the lack of information surrounding him, as much as I am with anyone I don't know. I also made it a point to travel 2 hours to attend his last show in West Virginia, although the fact that my parents live twenty minutes from the venue helped. Then I watched the documentary that is getting all kinds of ass kissing revues on twitter, went into it expecting something really special, and I pretty much lost most of the respect I had for the man. I think of the countless thousands of wrestlers who didn't get half the opportunities he had, and while I am sure they are bitter, they didn't make a two hour "woe is me" documentary about it. At the start you feel kind of bad for him, but by the end when he is sitting in his car pounding on the steering wheel, I was just wishing for him to shut the fuck up. -

The crowd continuing to sing Fandango's theme was tremendous.
-
The crowd chanting for anything they can think of while Orton and Sheamus continue in the ring to no reaction is pretty funny.

I have like 5 shirts from BSW. There shipping times are atrocious, but the shirts are decent quality, and the guy that runs it is helpful with any questions or issues.

I was helping out at a charity show that Atlas was working, and the promoter asked me to go and get a poster signed that they were going to raffle. I head into the dressing room and find Tony who is taping his wrists. Me: Mr. Atlas, the promoter would like you to sign this poster that they are going to raffle at intermission. Tony: Why you need me to do it, because I'm black? You know I'm black right? Does that bother you? (he is grinning) Me: Ummmm....I don't mind.... Tony: Me either, I think everyone should own a couple! After that he laughed his ridiculous laugh, signed the poster, shook my hand, and went back to taping his wrists. -

This is the same guy who posted pictures of a gimp in the Evan Bourne thread. I think he is trying to get himself over on the forum or something. -

Awesome! Shane was in for a local fed that I help out with, and we got to talking about his WWF job work when he first broke into the business, and I mentioned having the matches on DVD. I told him about the comp and showed him the listing, he said he had bits and pieces of stuff here and there, but nothing comprehensive. He was also excited to have the WWF jobs, the UWF stuff, and the Steamboat tag era because it is something he can show his two young sons (the ECW stuff, not so much!) -

Does anyone know how to get in contact with GBBrutal? I have never had any dealings with the guy, but I acquired a copy of his Shane Douglas comp in a trade some time back, and last weekend showed the match listing to Douglas himself, who asked for a copy. I have already made the copies and will be giving them to Shane next weekend, but I just thought GB might be interested in knowing that a copy of his work made it into the hands of the wrestler. -
I'm guilty. Over the last few years I have considered Generico my favorite wrestler anywhere. I had hoped they would keep some version of the gimmick if for no other reason than to sell masks since Mysterio is about done, and Sin Cara is a bust. I really think kids could have gotten behind the goofy mask that does cool high flying shit, which would be perfect in there PG program. Instead they went with that? Skinny guy with a ginger beard? Now he looks generic.

As one of the few people who like Brody on this board, I can safely say that Lawler is a far better worker, but I still enjoy Brody. But the guy who was talking about closed-mindedness is absolutely right. I work with people who think I'm absolutely insane for enjoying the work of Daniel Bryan over the "far superior wrestler" Randy Orton, and can't see a single argument for the opposite. They of course "hate" Cena, love CM Punk (after previously disliking him) and they think TNA is a good wrestling promotion. I also work with a kid who legit asked me if Hulk Hogan was okay with Brooke marrying Bully Ray.......... -

So apparently WWE is going to put out a Mid-South DVD set in September, best of War Games in June, and Best of MSG in August. -
I grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia. We had TONS of wrestling on tv. Everyday at 4 on ESPN was either AWA or World Class, and then later Global NWA was on Saturday morning at 9:05, Saturday night at 6:05, Sunday Morning at 10:05, and Sunday night (It was sometime between 5:05 and 7:05, I can't remember) WWF was on Monday nights at 9, Saturday Morning at 11:00, Saturday afternoon at varying times, and Sunday at Noon I think GLOW came on late Saturday nights, but I was never allowed to stay up that late!

Didn't the Ronnie Garvin title win in the cage taking up the whole hour of the Saturday morning show?

I think Dynomite and Freight Train are part of that five dollar wrestling deal where they book the shittiest of workers in order to make fun of them. -
This may be my new favorite quote of all time.

I have heard the same thing about Butch Reed, and need to look for footage of them both. I would also like to add a few more names to my list, although once again I am not sure if other people actually like them.... Konnan: Granted I haven't seen much of his AAA work, but his shitty matches, incessant rambling, and goofy grabbing his crotch dance made me change the channel on WCW almost weekly. Road Dogg: If ever a bit of charisma carried a guy farther than he ever deserved to go, this is your prime example. I would rather watch a best of Scott Armstrong comp than a match of Jesse. Jeff Jarrett: I've seen some Memphis which was passable, but pretty much everything he ever did in WWF, WCW, or TNA was mind fuckingly excruciating to watch. Especially after becoming The Chosen One and being champion twenty times or whatever it was. I think it was Mike Graham (another case for this thread, but..) who said "Jeff Jarrett broke ten thousand guitars and never drew a dime."

Randy Orton I think the consensus with this one is the same for most people on this particular board. However, people on other boards I frequent love him, and the part that baffles me the most is that in shoot interviews guys always put him over as this phenomenal talent. I have tried to watch his matches from every point of view I can imagine, but I find him boring, uncharismatic, and his timing seems constantly off to me. Also I don't know that anyone likes him, but Dino Bravo may be the single most boring wrestler to ever step between the ropes. and Rick Martel has never done a thing for me.

Watching Terry and Dory vs Steamboat and Youngblood from All Japan '82, and I have a question. Why is Lou Thesz referee'ing and what the fuck is up with that horrible shirt!
