If Triple H didn't care about online fan perception, why is he doing interviews with Jonathan Snowden of Bleacher Report?
  2. Wasn't Demott already in the position when HHH took over? DeMott was hired as WWE's head trainer in early June 2012, which was the period Triple H was taking over John Laurinaitis' position as EVP of Talent Relations. Other Triple H hires like Canyon Ceman and Jane Geddes were hired before DeMott was brought in.
  3. Dammit, now I am imagining an alternate reality where Bruiser and Crusher arrive in 1986 WWF as a "proto Bushwhackers" sort of tag team, and it sounds kind of awesome. Bulldogs and Harts/Valentine-Beefcake tearing it up as the main event tag team program while undercards and Midwest shows are populated with Bruiser and Crusher schticking it up against Sheik/Volkoff, Bundy/Studd, and The Moondogs. The Crusher did work some dates in AWA markets for the WWF in late 1986 and 1987. See:
  4. For those that have been waving the poms poms in preparation of Triple H triumphantly taking over WWE, the DeMott situation should give pause for thought. This was spectacularly mishandled by the WWE Talent Relations department, which Triple H runs.
  5. I'm not about to defend Demott, but hyperbolic posts like this is where it gets ridiculous. 1. Who the hell did Bruce successfully train? And don't say Goldberg, whose rise to stardom had very little to do with what Bruce taught him. The Regal match proves that Goldberg was pretty lost in the ring early on. Good job, DeWayne Bruce! BTW, Bruce was also an abusive tool - according to Batista's book. I don't think my post was hyperbolic. I wasn't arguing that Bruce trained many great wrestlers, but he did train from scratch about a dozen wrestlers that were good enough to be quickly promoted to WCW television in pushed roles. DeMott hadn't trained one during his stint as head WWE trainer. I also wasn't arguing that Bruce wasn't an abusive tool, just that he wasn't as bad as DeMott. Did anyone ever complain to WCW HR about him?
  6. Only responsible journalists are invited to such calls, so you will probably have to pray on brother. I imagine though that by the time of the next NXT special in 2-3 months time this story will be old news by then. If the allegations resurfaced before a conference call, then Hunter would issue a statement at the beginning of it so that everyone could concentrate on the more important matters at hand like pushing for Charlotte to be the WWE's version of Ronda Rousey and won't tomorrow's show be awesome. Given that these allegations were from two years ago, I can't see WWE doing anything other than fire-fighting when necessary and waiting till the heat blows over. Arguably the bigger problem is that there's no evidence that DeMott is actually a *good* trainer, as all the best talent in NXT got their starts elsewhere. So far he's a more abusive and less successful version of DeWayne Bruce. You'd hope Triple H would have greater aspirations than running a high-rent WCW Power Plant.

Did Stu really ever train anyone to wrestle? Most of the people he's credited as training are only people he may have stretched a few times while they were in Calgary.
  8. As a great man said on Twitter recently: "Vince McMahon always wins in the end remember that." No surprise then that Roman's originally scheduled Fastlane match has only been postponed for a couple of months.
  9. Yeah, it depends if Brock Lesnar re-signs with WWE before bell time. If that happens, I'm sure they would at least consider Brock going over, as it would be a major swerve finish (like Punk beating Cena for the belt in Chicago at MitB 2011) and they would feel the need to keep him strong given the substantial investment it will take to re-sign him. Of course, they'd risk turning Roman Reigns into this generation's Lex Luger by doing that. That's why Roman should go over whatever happens, but don't rule out Vince losing faith at the last minute when he's facing a big meathead instead of a lovable goat-faced troll.

I don't know, trying to co-opt the #GiveDivasAChance movement for yourself isn't the worst possible strategy in this situation. I don't have any faith at the execution by a creative team predominantly ran by middle-aged men, but paying lip service to change is about the only thing they could immediately do, outside of the UFC strategy of leaking pay information about the complainant.

You never hear of any resentment about Lesnar though, while the resentment towards The Rock has been widely reported. I really think Lesnar has had an easier ride backstage because of his MMA success.
  12. I made the Benoit comparison myself a couple of weeks ago here: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/9702-the-confirmed-stories-of-triple-h-being-a-total-douchebag-thread/page-13&do=findComment&comment=5653090 It's not a perfect comparison, as Bryan is more charismatic than Benoit and has the Yes chants, but I doubt Vince's analysis goes beyond his gut instincts of the guy. I'm sure they still view Bryan as a bit of a geek, whereas Roman Reigns is a cool mofo that men want to be and women want to shag. The best career arc Bryan can hope for at this stage is that he becomes WWE's go to guy (like Bret Hart in the mid 1990's) when the act they try to replace him with on top fails in that position.

I'm having difficulty understanding the psychology here, Kris. That doesn't mean it's not a worked shoot, as WWE storylines often don't make much sense. But having the corporate babyface be exposed as a sham seems a wee bit counterproductive.
  14. A ladder match would make the most sense with the stolen belt gimmick, which is what Rob McCarron suggested on his Monday Night Raw report for f4wonline.com. Really there are no good options for Bryan, as he's the odd man out this year. Better being inserted into a multi-man match that might be given time than being shoe-horned into an extra match that they don't have time for.

I've listened to this now and it's clear that Dave was speculating that Brock decided not to do whatever was planned for him, as to what "something happened" was.
  16. Dave recently compared the PED issue in MMA to America's ever expanding national debt. I'm not sure political commentary is his strong point.
  17. There's also the issue of booking overrated old guy vs. overrated old guy as the number two match on the card, whilst "new" guys who headlined multiple specials over the last year are directionless (Bryan, Ambrose and to a lesser extent Ziggler). Though, in the case of Bryan, the fact that he's below Orton and Triple H on this year's card suggests his big wins didn't really matter in the long term big picture.

Don't forget that Brock's contract is coming due. Any unflattering creative for Brock may not be coincidental. Same goes with the timing of Brock telling Vince to go f*** himself.
  19. But won't you be even happier next year when Triple H loses to The Rock after he defeats Sting and builds his heat up for another year? I'm not arguing that Hunter winning is the right move. I'm kind of indifferent to it. But remember Vince makes the final call, the same guy who booked the Invasion angle and booked Brock Lesnar to lose in his first match back in WWE. Sting winning isn't a safe bet by any means.
  20. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hunter winning given the WWE vs. WCW narrative being spun. Plus, what is Sting's future? All evidence suggests that at age 56, that this is likely his final match and that WWE have no real plans for him afterwards other than a Hall Of Fame induction next year.
  21. Listening to the latest WO breaking NEWZ update, Dave seems to have the impression that WWE felt they settled too quickly with Punk and now feel they have a case against him using the doctor as a proxy. Also there's the added benefit of possibly fucking with his UFC training and putting a strain on his friendship with Colt since Punk would feel an obligation to cover for him financially. It's worth stressing that Meltzer mentioned revenge as a possible motivating factor. I'm sure WWE regrets settling so quickly with Punk when he immediately badmouthed them on his friend's podcast and then signed with the UFC, but the end result probably would have been the same, as there were plenty of health concerns Punk raised that to the best of our knowledge haven't been disputed in the lawsuit, they still withheld royalty checks from him, they still fired him on his wedding day and he didn't have much time left on his contract anyway.

I don't think there's much evidence that Vince's tastes have really changed much over the years. Pushing smaller guys was usually forced upon him due to circumstances beyond his control. For the Kevin Owens of this world, it helps that tryouts are done at the performance centre with Vince having no involvement, because I doubt he would make the same hiring decisions that Hunter does, especially with people in his ear burying the tryout talent.
  23. Joe vs. El Patron is unlikely, as they're trying to keep talent costs down (Sinclair is keeping the purse strings tight) and I think Alberto's run with ROH will thus be finishing up in April.
  24. You maybe should do a sixth part talking about matches on the WWE Network that should have been included on the list that weren't chosen. Just an idea.
