I still don't know how ACH got ROTY votes when he wasn't a rookie. He works the local Austin Indy here and usually has the best or 2nd best match on the show. That's been the case since 2011. I know he was working before that too. I'm glad he's getting notoriety, but don't think his past should be ignored because fan boys want to be on the ground floor on a new Indy sensation.

[1990-11-03-USWA-Memphis TV] Eddie Gilbert celebration
shoe replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
This was so great. I can't even attempt to explain how great Gilbert has been in Memphis with great segment after segment. Gaylord is such a goof. He's like a luchadore in WCW trying to get some t.v time. -
This was great for the time given. They had a great chemistry in the ring. A pair of legit bad asses, so I'm sure their was a big respect factor there.

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Rick & Scott Steiner vs Nasty Boys
shoe replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
I've always loved this match and still do. The crowd was going nuts. I was at an Indy show in November of 2011 and the Nasty Boys were there unannounced. Knobbs was just bombed while Sags was just chillin. I went over and had a beer with Sags. I asked him what he thought their best match was. He said Halloween Havoc 90 against the Steiners. -
I think it's actually in today's Observer. The one flaw Dave points out in the data is that who went on last got credited for the main event. Even though from 84 prior the main event went on after intermission. In Houston as late as 89 if we were getting a multiple main event run. The 1st match went on before intermission to set up the big stip match for the next house like a cage, lumber jack etc.

I'd agree with all of these picks. I'd throw Steamboat in the mix too. His run with Youngblood is really good, his tag team with Dustin produced good matches , I thought him and Shane were really good too. I loved how they would ape a bunch of the double team spots from the Steamboat/Youngblood team. Steamboat had good tag matches with partners he didn't tag long term with like Sting, Santana, Arn, Nikita, etc. Heck he even had some decent tags carrying JYD against Muraco and Fuji which really says a ton for him.

Here are 10 in no order. Flair Lawler Funk Hansen Bock Mysterio Rose Steamboat Morton Guerrero Just missing Vader, Eaton, Tully, Windham

I think Double Trouble got a mini run in the WWF because they were originally the Undertakers. Working the house show loop was part of them giving up the gimmick.

Eaton was just a super worker. One of the most underrated guys ever in wrestling. I don't know how many times he'd be involved in some 8 minute television match and he is taking these absurd bumps. He looks like he's killing himself. I'm at home watching going why are you killing yourself here, you're already putting the other team over. I think he's the only wrestler ever to get that reaction from me . I can't wait for the MX set.

Wrestling Culture Podcast Episode 35!
shoe replied to Dylan Waco's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Funk's grill by far. I mean Flair for the Gold was about cheesy. It felt almost like a bad sitcom. King's court was poor too. -
Another great 6 man from the promotion. I have this as the 2nd best of the 3 .

[1990-10-27-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Jake Roberts & Rick Martel
shoe replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
This segment was so amazing . It's hard to believe they were able to pull it off . It might be Jake's finest work ever. You kinda wonder who else in 1990 could pull this off. Maybe Dusty, or Arn as a face? I don't know. -
[1990-10-13-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Oktoberfest!

This was hilarious. I enjoyed every second of it. -
To be clear you are talking U.S. guys right? I'm not saying I couldn't see an argument for Buddy in an all time top ten, but I just want to make sure that I'm reading you right. And if I am that leads to my next question - where would Bock (and Buddy) be on an all time list for you right now? I'm pretty sure I'd have both in my top twenty. Maybe top fifteen. I see both as top ten contenders, but not sure if they would be inside or outside of it. I'm talking U.S. I would easily have them in my top 15 to 20. Their are a lot of great Lucha guys out there like Casas, Dandy, Santo, Satanico etc . that can make a case. Then in Japan you have your Jumbo's, Tenyru's, Kawada, Liger types would be battleing it out for spots . Now someone like Jim Breaks who I find about as entertaining as anyone I watch would be hard pressed to make a top 30 or 40 for me. In actuallity I think Breaks and Rose have a lot in common when it comes to schtick.

His feud with Tito is fantastic. I've always liked his hr. draw with Backlund. Actually I've liked a lot of his career . Now Will if you do make a Valentine comp I'm sure their are 2 discs worth of pre WWF Valentine to put on. I mean their are the 2 Flair matches. One from classics the other the handheld. Their are some of the garbage tapes, the Wahoo match, the Piper Starcade match and build. I always loved the promo he did with Sarge and Kernodle tearing Younbloods headdress while reading the little kids letter. You could cover the Flair-Valentine breakup. These are some stuff that I know is out there

This segment was tremendous . Easily in my top 3 segments of the year. I will admit to laughing my ass off that Gilbert had a clip on tie though.- 11 replies

I love when Dylan busts out the French Canadian teams. I picture him wearing a Rougeau bros like Jimmy Hart Jacket waiving mini flags.
-
If it means anything to you. On the Steamboat DVD he says he stole his arm drag from Jack.
-
I agree. I don't see how you'd like Embry anywhere.
