  1. I am of the opinion that the Alburquerque title change did happen, based on my readings from the KM site a few years back and discussions with other AWA guys of the time frame. That it wasn't filmed at all is also a possibility. Raschke-Crusher's title win apparently wasn't either. Both would have been done "on the fyl" so to speak with people leaving the area holding the belts. It's not like Verne wouldn't make snap decisions or anything... I'd think if it was filmed it would have been to have clips for TV available. So yeah on the change happening for real, no on the filming of it IMO.
  2. I'd be curious to who he thought the AWA's top face was in that time frame if he doesn't think it was Blackwell. My guess is that he watched a lot of AWA from 87-90, when Blackwell wasn't around much. Did he offer an alternative as the top face from that time frame?
  3. Yeah for sure.

  7. Glove was a good guy. Used to chat with him online and on some boards a fair bit. Was sad when I found out and yeah, 49...that hits home these days.
  8. Sounds excellent and right up my alley.

  11. Watched some buddy rose Portland discs last night. Pretty fun. The belt off the bridge was pretty neat.
  12. I am not sure if I mentioned it earlier in this thread, apologies if I did, but Verne Gagne vs. Mad Dog Vachon for the AWA title in the Montreal Forum from 1972 exists. I saw a two second clip about 17 years ago and had it confirmed last year that the match itself has survived. Aaron Wiess owns it. He aired it at a sports festival last year in Toronto and I have not run across anyone that actually saw it but it was advertised along with a few other gems. So, it's a match I know exists, and I am hopeful that Aaron puts it out there in a place more people can see it someday. Verne and Dog had a historic AWA feud and aside from seeing them actually match up vs. each other, it would be nice to put some context to how big a deal it was when Verne and Dog eventually got together in 1979 and won the AWA Tag titles. There are other things out there that may not exist that the LBOA release has given me hope on, such as Bock-Backlund from Toronto in 1979 and of course Flair-Backlund from the Omni. But I know Verne-Dog exists, which makes seeing it something more tangible for me at this time.
  13. I thought it was exactly what we should expect as the climax of an 18 month blood feud. By this point these guys knew everything about each other, so all they could do really was fight...and they did. I like that there was no commentary, it really let the match do the talking for itself and I think sometimes that is what you need.
  14. As a collector for more than 30 years this is an amazing thing. At this point this just wasn't supposed to exist...now it does. How about that?

  16. I was at work when I checked, punched the site into Google, and found it for &3.89. Are you in Canada? I am and maybe I called up the us price. I dunno.

  18. Thanks for the heads up on this. That's a great price. I'll look for it later today on there. Kobo store has it for $3.89 For those that use Kobo e-readers. Not sure how the compatibility of e-books is between the two readers is but I think they don't cross-match well.
  19. AWA 1979-84. I would absolutely kill for more video of the promos and arena match clips from that time frame. Such a fun time to watch.

  21. Billy Robinson beating Verne Gagne for the AWA title at the September 1974 Chicago outdoor show would have allowed Billy to hold the title for a year and a bit before losing it to Bockwinkel in November of 1975. Verne chasing Bock would still have happened but would have had a deeper element to it as Nick never beat Verne for the title. Not much difference in how it would have all played out after 1974, if any, but Billy having an AWA title reign under his belt would have seemed...."right" for lack of a better term.
  22. It was originally on WWE Classics on Demand, and I assume they converted the show themselves. As such, I suspect there is more available nut the WWE would have to release it for us to see it. Next Stampede footage they released after that was IIRC 1978 which ran somewhat monthly into 1979. When they cancelled the service, the monthly stuff stopped of course. Whether they had more of that converted or not remains to be seen.
