  1. If the wrestler is under the ropes, the hold is broken as the wrestler is considered out of bounds. If the wrestler has to reach for the ropes to grab it, the wrestler is not deemed to be "out of bounds", and the hand will be removed from the rope. This is pretty much how it was called in the AWA, albeit inconsistently.

  3. Good luck to him.
  4. This is a new shoot, right? Recently released? Some of your write up talking about what Greg is saying rings true or mostly true. Some of what Greg is saying is a festival of BS and mis-rememories. This one, for example, is a little of both... "Gagne claims the High Flyers were put over Baba and Dory Funk Jr. in Japan as part of the World League Tournament. (Wrestlingdata.com has Dory and Greg’s only encounter being a Pro Wrestling USA battle royal)" Gagne and Brunzell did compete in a tournament in Japan in April of 1984, and Dory and Baba IIRC were a team in that tourney. I believe Dory and Baba beat them, though. Dory also teamed with Kerry Von Erich against the Flyers on the same tour and that match made tape. Flyers lost. The Hansen story with the chair is possibly true, the Flyers did meet Hansen and Brody twice in that April 1984 tourney but neither match made tape. One went to a no-decision of some sort, and Brody/Hansen went over in the other match IIRC. There is an interview segment from 1984 AWA TV with Gagne and Brunzell holding a plaque from that tournament, with Greg talking about it. It's not more than a participation memento, though. It was just a little 4-team mini tourney from memory. Looking forward to getting that shoot (and picking it apart lol), sounds right up my alley.
  5. 7-foot tall hillbilly character that bounced around Texas promotions from time-to-time, was also in World Class and a couple other promotions under the name T. John Tibbedeux. I remember Thibideaux being very round but not in the seven-foot range, from what I've seen of him previously
  6. Watched a bunch of 1983 AWA TV and matches this weekend as I move towards getting an AWA 1983 Year in Review set completed. Still a long way to go but it's coming together pretty nicely.
  7. The 7/23 Orton-Santana matches has long been one of my favourite MSG matches of the 80's. Glad it's getting some love. The Adonis-Orton Southwest match is available in full if I remember right. I'm a big Orton fan. Something about the way he delivers his offense always resonated with me. Very crisp. I'd give anything to get my hands on an Orton-Greg Gagne match from the AWA in the mid-70's. Those I have talked to that saw some of those bouts said they were really, really good.

  10. In the 80's I had a big dish, and followed as many promotions as I could. It's a long list but I'd have to go back to my original tape lists to remember them all. There was always too much but at the time it was never enough.
  11. 70's Jimmy (WWA, WWWF), 80's Jimmy (MACW vs. Paul Jones et al), Memphis or someplace else Jimmy, or all of the above?
  12. Did some work for the AWA in 1985 teaming with Nord and Boris against the Road Warriors. RIP.
  13. Missy never made a movie, did she? Any of the Nitro girls?
  14. Weirdly enough, the phasing out of dvd (and vhs for that matter) will make a lot of stuff that used to be "common" suddenly rare. The uptick of tech seems to do that every time in some degree or another.
  15. The Philly handheld--from the same day as the Landover match--might be my second favourite. The best version out there isn't in great quality but damn it's excellent. It's one of those series that you wish every single bout they had between Chi and War was pro shot. Each was likely great in its own way.
  16. Chi Town. to this day it is my favourite match of all time. I watched it that night and countless times since. Everything was perfect, from the ring entrances (down to the timing of the music), to the flow of the match, to the ending, to the commentary of Ross and Magnum. Every single thing clicked in that match, and when you add the element of Steamboat actually winning the title, it was utter perfection.
  17. What promotion is that from?
  18. Hansen/Bruno I believe was shown on one of those time-filler MSG match things that they did on the Network. I forget what the show was called, if it even had a specific name. They would show matches from the Garden to fill the remaining time before the top of the hour, I'm thinking when a sporting event ended at, say, 1045. So, from 1046 to 1100 they would show a match. As such it would be JIP as the match would have been cut down to fit that spot to get to the top of the hour.
  19. That Russen channel sounds like fun, thanks.
  20. For AWA 1984, I'd recommend my 1984 Year in Review set instead of individual episodes. Those Heenan/Race promos and many like them appeared on the St. Louis block that featured AWA, WCCW, Central States and WWF. Charles Warburton picked them up and got them out there for the most part, and he got the original tapes from Steve Munari. The quality is superb for the most part. That is also why Harley is cutting an intro promo with WCCW music in the background...it was one he probably cut specifically for that block of TV. I'm personally more a fan of the Minneapolis-aired shows since the promos are closer to home and featured hype for matches at the Civic Center, but those are harder to find in decent quality. There are a few AWA eps worth watching as-is if you can find them...the one where the Sheiks damage some jobbers after getting challenged in-ring by the Blackjacks before that match...Late April IIRC...also the ep where Brody kills the High Flyers...mid-April sometime for that one...The early March TV should feature some promos and highlights of Nick losing to Jumbo which are fun...The post-battleroyal TV from June has a lot of stuff surrounding the Blackwell face turn. Mid-summer should have the Fabs-Bock/Saito confro stuff from TV, and later on nearing September is the promos for Heenan's last AWA tour promoting the great Weasel Hunt matches. I'm not sure what all that channel has and where the tv is culled from will make a difference. there are St. Paul,. Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis sources out there and each has unique promos. Hope that helps some.
  21. Kevin and David had to be pretty green at that point, no?
