It was odd to see them recognise that Kenta is Kenta but yeah we are still changing the dude's name. They really need to start giving last names to some of these girls (I guess that Charlotte will once she makes it to the main roster?)

Stuff like Smoky Mountain Wrestling is probably a nightmare to edit and Memphis (if they ever buy that library and we get to see it) will lose part of its charm with generic tunes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ0oMokJN74

FWIW short hair was also a popular and fashionable haircut among Japanese idol singers and actresses in the early to mid 80s.

Yeah... pretty sure that long term Brazos ended up drawing a lot more than Misioneros. I haven't done any serious research in a decade but as the legend goes the three biggest draws post-86 outside of Mexico city's big arenas where Santo Jr., Brazos and Aguayo. Brazos drew a shitload of money for years in places like Monterrey where we have few results and fewer matches, and others like Guadalajara or Nuevo Laredo where we have almost nothing.

I also enjoyed watching the hard camera version. Andre seemed so gigantic watching it that way. It really pointed out how effective he was at using the space of the ring. Aren't they already doing that on Wrestlemania Rewind? (Re-editing legendary matches with different camera shots and angles)

Back in the day I thought that him, Marco and Palumbo had the potential to be tremendous stars as they were jacked up agile good looking guys that worked hard. It looks like Sean didn't adjust well to life after wrestling and he had plenty of legal trouble. Still, it's a shame that he had to go that way.

Yes I promised Dylan and Dave to give them my podcast debut and probably retirement episode. Sometime in the next few weeks wouldn't be a bad time, I just need to stop working stupid hours during six days a week I guess.

Is that Regal match in the WWE network?

The HHH and Batista shows were very good and sounded more like two friends chatting about one's career than an actual interview. That's exactly why I prefer Austin to Jericho as an interviewer, as the conversations have the same comradery feeling but Austin tends to do a lot more research beforehand. Both are very good at it, though, and it's good to have both interview styles available. Funny when HHH at some point mentioned something about "my girlfriend at the time". Either it's still a very sensitive subject with Stephanie or he's really ashamed of his Chyna days.

CM Punk is an interesting one. I'm sure he'll get very high numbers with news reporters (not sure if that's the proper name for the voter group). Let's also post the subject of the email that Dave sent us with the ballot. Mine is "Re: The Lucha Report for 12/20" which is KrisZ's report. But why did Dave get my name from an email from last year (when this is something that Kris sends almost every day) is something that I will never know. Initial Mexico votes based on gut feeling and previous research: I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN MEXICO CANDIDATES Brazo de Oro & Brazo de Plata & El Brazo Cien Caras Karloff Lagarde Blue Panther El Signo & El Texano & Negro Navarro Villano III I may vote for Park and or Wagner and I need to think if I want to vote for modern performers in the US. The Rock and Roll Express should be in. I will probably vote for Carlos Colon and need to think if I want to vote in Europe or not. I think the arguments for Colon and Daddy not being in are more emotional than logical. I will definitely vote for Jarrett, Monsoon, Okerlund as non-wrestlers. Last year I voted for Stanley Weston (I was basically convinced by reading arguments in this forum) but I need to rethink that one. I need to think about others in that category.

Like others I don't feel nostalgia for ECW even though I watched it during its heyday (through the supershows and commercial tapes, I didn't really follow the TV). When they started gaining a following I had already seen Onita doing crazy shit and I already knew the 1995 top talent (Scorp, Benoit, Eddie, Malenko, etc.) from Mexico and Japan where they were having better matches. I largely stopped caring after 1998 but I hope someday people start recognising the FBI as the best thing that ever happened during the promotion's history.

It's interesting how this actual match got Smiley his break in Mexico, which eventually got him to WCW, then WWE and now his current role as a trainer. Without this match he may have ended up lost in the shuffle of early 90s Japanese shoot indies. He may have had a role as a WCW jobber in 93-94 but that's probably it. Adams also had a Mexico run though he came basically as a guy to make Kevin Von Erich look good. KVE didn't impress but Adams did - Box y Lucha, the fans at the arenas and the promoters all loved his style and work ethic in the ring. Unfortunately for him he was caught stealing Atlantis' wallet and that was it.

I always thought young Dave looked like Brian Adias. Some in the lucha community in the early 90s thought he looked like Emilio Charles Jr., which sounds like a joke, but before Emilio's head all got scarred and he grew a beard there was some sort of a slight resemblance.

I really enjoyed the Schiavone interview. Ross was less grouchy and interrupted the guest much less than usual so that was good. I also skipped his starting and ending monologue as I tend to do with him and Cornette. Tony was great and I'd like to see him being interviewed by Austin.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
pantherwagner replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Don't get me wrong, I don't find the fact itself (being a cam whore) to be morally wrong or anything like that. If somebody's happy doing that or porn or whatever and it's all a personal choice then it's all good but in Tammy's case it really feels like another chapter in her endless downward spiral. When you think she has hit rock bottom then this comes out. -

So this may be old news but Tammy Sytch is all over her twitter offering "private skype video chats". That's kind of sad. -
That's what was mentioned in one of the previews some time ago. Maybe the rest is non-linear stuff about production, individual players behind the scenes, etc, etc? That's what I expected once I saw the 20 eps number, and frankly, the only reason I gave this one a chance as otherwise it's a pretty beaten up subject. I'm also hoping for an episode on the cruiserweights but it's more likely that we'll instead get three on Montreal or something.

I am battling jet lag and have watched the two first episodes of the Monday Night War. There are three subjects that I never want to watch a documentary or ever read an article or long story about: the nWo, ECW and the Attitude era. Even less if it's something WWE produced. I'm not sure how are they going to stretch the MNW documentary into a supposed 20 chapters. Looks like I will be skipping most shows of this one.

This exact same thing happened to me. Jericho is also king of the fake classic match feeling via doing tons of reversals and kicking out of finisher and signature moves. I hate when he pulls that shit five or six minutes into the match.

Eric has been pretty consistent through the years with the Nitro story, though, he has always said that it was supposed to be a meeting to talk about licensing WCW shows in Japan and he did not expect the question. On these shows it's also funny how they paint this picture of a Southern billionaire that is obsessed 24/7 with Vince and wants to put him out of business at any cost. The "THEY ARE TRYING TO STOP US FROM FEEDING OUR FAMILIES" line is even worse when it's an obvious lap dog like Michael Hayes repeating bullshit corporate memes.

How Would You Book a TNA/WWE Joint Show?
pantherwagner replied to theconstipatedsmark's topic in Armchair Booking
I think TNA is the only promotion in the history of wrestling where you could replicate the World Class/USWA angle where some familiar faces and a bunch of unknowns (NXT?) run in, kick everybody's ass, destroy the Impact TV set, pull down the TNA banners, set everything on fire and take over and people would be cheering like crazy. -
I did a 360 on HHH, I used to really hate him during the Attitude era. I didn't want him to die or anything but him breaking his neck and being in a wheelchair would have been cool (hey I was a teenager). By the early 00s I thought he got really good and started really enjoying him for his hard work and his passion and I thought he really was a modern version of Harley Race. Eventually I ended up realising how he's awful at conveying any kind of real emotion but he lays out matches to be LONG AND EPIC with near falls and shit like that so many people think that they are compelling bouts. By then I didn't want him to be in a wheelchair or anything though so it's an improvement... I guess. Also quite a big 180 (positive) on the entire state of Tennessee though I'd say that happened through the years to quite a few of us workrate-ish (lucha, Japan, BENOIT, etc) tards that went through DVDVR and Smarkschoice and ended up here.

I absolutely agree with you John, when you have that knowledge it's frustrating that they have done such a shitty job and that the only way to use bookmarks is to get spoiled (which isn't a big deal to me but I'm sure it is to a lot of people). Just the same as us not getting any old MSG shows or NWA TV 1985 or any other footage that has already been shown in the past on Classics. I had no idea about those World Class episodes already being shown before. It's even worse then. Our only hope to get old remastered shows at this stage is that the international numbers end up being much better than they expected and that more people are put to work on the project again because it really looks like the schedule is being run by an intern.
