  1. Granted, Bret and Owen weren't going to win any Oscars for what they tried to capture, but it put a nice lid on both Bret's long turn and the feud between Owen and Davey Boy.
  2. I never liked the "10-count with both guys down in the ring" which I squarely blame Stallone for because it's quite obvious the spot was taken from the Rocky movies.
  3. I'm assuming '97 (and/or '91) is coming next, but the reconciliation between the two is one of the most genuinely moving moments in WWE's history.
  4. I would imagine this was a big part of the reason for making it illegal, not so much for wrestling but other athletics like Football and Baseball.
  5. Rock said on his Twitter today that he was shooting a fight scene for Pain & Gain with...Kurt Angle
  6. They certainly mentioned him quite a few times around this time, maybe starting with this interview. And from what I remember, one of the Apter mags (most likely PWI) had done an article featuring pictures of Flair with Hogan and Jimmy Hart in late '93. He legit didn't sign with them until June, but Bischoff must have been pretty confident they were going to make a deal to let people drop his name on television.
  7. And that's only 80% of the original size. I dare not click on it
  8. Wasn't Tony Halme fired for wanting to do Die Hard With A Vengeance?
  9. I'm guessing it isn't Triple H.
  10. Watching this again, there's a chair shot Sags gives Payne, a really nasty (no pun intended) shot with a folding chair that's folded out that still makes me wince.
  11. At least he was an athlete. No better example of that statement than Jay Leno twisting Hogan's arm at a biker rally on PPV. Just as an aside, and since I can't be bothered to make a thread of it's own out of it, is it fair to say this might be the worst WrestleMania ever?
  12. Montreal? Joking aside, I could even tell at the time as a ten year old mark this was meant to be Bret's big coming-out as the new face of the company. Why they didn't commit to him in the long haul is beyond me, because for all his faults he was as close to perfect a guy they needed at the time to counter the public's image of roided-out monsters.
  13. Agreed. Part of what I meant by bringing Heyman back is that my impression of this feud is that it's another David/Goliath thing for Cena. Brock doing ten minute back-and-forths with Laurinitis squashes that image completely. It just makes him look like another heel. Even the behemoths who were also good on the mic had managers. Vader with Harley Race, Bundy with Heenan, Earthquake with Jimmy Hart, all of them were doubly effective at being monsters for having those guys and in essence knowing when to shut up and look menacing in promos.
  14. Funny little trend on Twitter right now, #WWECoverBands. So far I have Legion Of Doom Metal, Barry Windham Hill Records, Simply Red Bastien and One Man James Gang.
  15. Jim Ross is really weird on commentary here, hinting that Jose may have had a heart attack and pimping the UK dates as the show comes to a close. I love that Sid just straight up hugs Vladimir as he walks out.
  16. The Foreigner song, right? I remember reading and reading about his programs in SMW and it was quite shocking to see him wasted with such a stupid minor character in WWE.
  17. But I think in one of the extended scenes on the DVD when HHH comes into the ring, he talks to the guy about Goldberg. I know that much, and it did seem quite petty. Someone help me out on this lol.
  18. Reading all this really makes me wish Heyman was back in the equation as Brock's mouthpiece.
  19. Back then (and even in more recent times) it seemed any sort of feud that is fueled by the heel costing the face a championship of any kind due to outside interference (or vice versa, IE Piper/Rude from the year before) would have had more heat to it. I'd gather a good explanation for that brief run was that Ted wanted to help Kerry out with a good mid-card feud, and stave off the inevitable downward push KVH went through in '91 all the way to his departure. Another thing that bothered me about the whole deal, is that it had to have effected Kerry's already fragile state of mind. Here he is, now working for the company that helped put his father out of business, doing jobs for Kamala on house shows. It's a grim reminder of how insensitive WWE could appear at times to the talent, as compared to now with their more comprehensive rehabilitation programs. It does make me wonder if he'd be alive today if such policies were in place in '92. In just writing that I'd have to say no since there were legal implications (the shame of which ultimately drove him to suicide).
  20. Ah. I wasn't following that far back, otherwise I might have not said it didn't go anywhere. In a sense, it still didn't have that big blow-off match, because it played second fiddle to the Ted/Virgil program. Rightly so, it was a perfect example of how WWE did angles right back then.
  21. In looking back at his IC title reign, it was nice of them to do it but his downward spiral on the roster took effect pretty quickly after he lost the belt. What was strange about it was that it seemed like they were teasing a feud with Dibiase next, but once it was done nothing came of it and Ted went on to finish his run with Dusty and begin that long angle with Virgil. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did in the company, especially in the light of all the controversy that was erupting in '91 with the steroid scandal. In Bret's book, he said Kerry as early as the middle of his run with the IC belt, was talking about suicide and "joining his brothers".
  22. Tommy Lee beat down by professional wrestlers would be one of those good karma moments.
  23. This, basically. I'm glad that Bret and Shawn buried the hatchet with each other, and after watching the Greatest Rivalries program I have little doubt as to the veracity of Shawn's remorse over the whole thing. Mostly because he didn't get very preachy about it (Bret brought up him being born again first, actually), or at least didn't appear to. The knowledge that Bret remained so violently bitter about it until it got the better of him and lead to his stroke had to have been eating away at him, and indeed Vince too. I'm hoping Bret revises his book soon, in light of the recent reconciliation. It was published in 2007, and the final chapters were indicative of that he still had some grudges with Shawn and Hunter. It would be interesting if he put it all to rest that way, and talked about it frankly.
  24. Possibly the most pettiest thing I've ever seen on television was when HHH berated the poor kid who had the Goldberg poster up on his wall on the first season of Tough Enough. Bill may not have been a "student of the business" and did indeed get his spot rather easily, that's because he was the right man at the right time.
