WWF Superstars (Of Wrestling) on the Network
flyonthewall2983 replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in WWE
I feel like Hennig did better when he was doing commentary for the company in 96 but I could be wrong on that. I generally agree that he wasn't good during this time, but I remember thinking he was okay at the '96 Rumble. -
They replaced the theme music with generic filler on most episodes. I say most because one I watched had the original intact, and another one had both tunes playing at the same time!
-
34 episodes from 1992 went up today, starting from April which happened to be the very month I got into wrestling. Watching this stuff will be quite the nostalgia trip.

Who the hell is holding them up over this?

WWE TV 01/07 - 01/13 Bolsonaro is the epitome of SDE*
flyonthewall2983 replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I think Vince even said he was a fan of the show on one of his interviews with Bob Costas. -
TBS is also wildly different to how it was in the 90's, when it had Clint Eastwood marathons every Thanksgiving and Bond movie marathons every so often too. It was also very Atlanta-centric to some degree because it aired Braves and Hawks games as opposed to the more widespread MLB and NBA coverage the Turner networks have now. USA is basically the same as it was in the 90's, but less older movies.
-
Content-wise TBS and USA are on the lower tier of attention compared to places like FX or AMC which have a longer history of more acclaimed original programming. TBS got a lot of attention when Conan O'Brien chose them for his new show after leaving NBC, and since marketed themselves much more as a comedy channel though I think they still show some sports (baseball I think?) so AEW wouldn't be too afar a fit I think.

Funniest thing I've seen all week -
The tribute was actually very heartfelt and you could tell he got legit emotional from watching the video before doing his promo.

83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff

I get the feeling I'm going to appreciate this thread more and more, than actually listening to the show. Not a knock on either guy, but the kind of confrontational tone the show takes could get on my nerves very easily. -
Prichard's version of Heenan leaving is that his terms could have been met if he requested to be paid as an employee of the company as opposed to an "independent contractor", to which Vince probably would have agreed but Bobby was set on leaving regardless.
-
I've said this about Heenan but it applies to Okerlund just as much, but that the WWF lost way more in the both of them in 1993 than almost any other wrestler leaving except Hogan. Even when he was in WCW, getting long in the tooth and maybe a little inebriated, he was still miles ahead of anybody else suited for the job.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in April 1992
Piper had matches with Curt Hennig in Portland which I'm sure give anything else he's done a run for their money.- 38 replies

Couldn't have said it any better. I think it's also fair to say that of anyone else in either the broadcast booth or holding the mic, nobody had the chemistry with Hogan that he had. Gene could get across the fact that he supported Hulk, and could help get across the angles at the same time. A sorely underrated moment during the heel turn at Bash At the Beach 96 is when Hogan turns more aggressive towards Okerlund with his usual shtick.

Shoots Review and Preview thread

I was at that show. I don't know how it played on TV, but the ovation was rather tepid for him and he looked way slimmed down compared to his halcyon days, -
I'm as far from an expert on athleticism than I'd care to admit, but I've got to think Curt Hennig and Ted Dibiase's selling abilities puts them way up there.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
flyonthewall2983 replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Listened to the Survivor Series '93 episode last night. I actually sided with Bruce when talking about dumping the idea of unmasking the knights during the Hart/Michaels match, when Terry Funk backed out at the last minute. The match was snakebit because of Lawler dropping out, but making it all about Bret and Owen was the major takeaway and thus good enough as it was. I'm surprised they skipped over the Rock n Roll Express/Heavenly Bodies match. -
I'm loathe to even bring up his name here, but Mancow Muller is a guy who I think is or was a genuine mark. He was syndicated in my area on our main alt-rock station for a couple years and I can remember him talking about Montreal like it was national news. He was also a presenter at the 1997 Slammys and had people on his show, particularly Bobby Heenan I remember.

Prime Time with Sean Mooney

A new episode drops every week. -
Now the question is if Cena and Bryan stand firm on this, or decide to take one for the team and try and fill what was a pretty important spot on the card.
-
Did he do it out of opposition to the war? I've seen him speak about it, but just got the feeling he didn't want to travel overseas during the holidays.
-
Anyone listen to this show? I got a little into it recently after hearing Joe Rogan mention it on his interview with DDP.

What was Bruce's response to the whole thing of Stephanie saying 9/11 was like living through the federal trial?
