  1. If you look at AWA and Portland he's got a solid amount of great matches.
  2. For real. There's been too much of the "I know, but I'm not saying" schtick happening on the board lately. This. If you can't tell the whole story don't tell any of it. Pretty sure I've mentioned all of this in a thread here before, but it may have been on another board. In any event, I'm pretty sure Dave was fed wrong info by Flair.
  3. To be clear, I am about 99% positive that is what happened. And fairly positive I know who the leak came from
  4. Because That story was leaked to a a Meltzer source to see if that source was a leaker. And he was
  5. Vince and Kane start looking everywhere for a new GM. They get called to a business meeting but when they show up to the site the GPS was telling them it's a church. They go inside and Big E. Is preaching with the choir backing him up on everything. He breaks out in song and a light shines down on Vince. He says "The Band!" And then does several back flips down the aisle. After this Vince is officially converted by A New Day and every shareholder meeting question is littered with " we are on a mission from god" references to simple questions. A New Day holds a revival every week on Raw including faith healing and an hour minimum of live gospel music. After TBN picks up the show they bring in the crazed lady with the makeup as the color commentator. Come Mania time Vince shows up during a Big E. Sermon, throws the bible on the ground and says the band is getting back together. Cue NWO music. Nash, Hall and Hogan come out in blackface for a parody angle. All core constituencies and shareholders are annoyed, stock plummets, Raw is cancelled, Network cancellations sore. TNA survives the collapse of wrestling due to Vince - the greatest heel swan song of all time.
  6. On the fence on voting Taue
  7. The premise of the business is that it was supposed to be a *fighting sport*, not a bad sitcom with people settling their real-life issues through violence. I guess that indeed became a problem when the actual *pro-wrestling match* isn't the focus anymore... The promotion of wrestling has consistently been personalized, even in the era when it was closer to sport in presentation. Once angles and tv became the norm, the form shifted even more. To argue that the premise of tv era wrestling is not based on the settling of personal disputes/problems through violence is total nonsense.
  8. Wrestling is an innately anti-PC form as the entire premise of the business is people solving their problems through violence and violence alone. Having said that, that is not necessarily an excuse to run explicitly anti- "PC" storylines and angles. I actually have a lot to say about this but I'm on my phone so I'll limit it to this now - I think many of the biggest advocates for "progressive" presentation in wrestling are really using that line as a Trojan horse criticism of corporate wrestling, and/or play favorites when it comes to who gets critical appraisal on those grounds.
  9. No good way to format Patera research for Observer front page. It's my own fault because I didn't have the time to put something together that I would have liked. Having said that I really don't think it would have mattered at all.
  10. Han had an existing base of support and people on the fence already. Patera is someone who is still thought of as a joke by a shit load of people. it's impossible to save someone from that reputation through research and it's not worth the trouble to try. I won't do it again.
  11. Cena heel turn preparation
  12. They have perfectly set the stage for a Cena heel turn tonight which I think is the new troll tactic of the company
  13. I have enjoyed it, but it's the sort of show that I can only like so much because I think there is almost no chance that it gets significantly better than it currently is.
  14. Also I like 70s Fujinami better than most of the guys In Parvd first post. Also like the 70s Lawler and Dundee we have
  15. Buddy Rose is my pick and it will be hard to convince me otherwise
  16. Carolina Panthers drastically increased ticket prices the year after Kevin Greene started wrestling
  17. There are also guys like Musgrave who are on record saying they will use all ten picks every year
  18. Best thing about this year is that with Patera being dumped so easily it kills my will to go insane researching guys like Greg Valentine or Don Jardine who were never going to have a chance with the voters. I can focus my obsessive energies elsewhere without guilt or regret.
  19. Unrelated, but you might enjoy the discussion of JYD, Bearcat Wright and race, Dave and I had on the latest Wrestling Culture Podcast funkdoc
  20. Him exempting Morales from his own rule is bullshit, more later.
  21. Same arguments Parv used above have been applied to hogan era WWF, Lucha, et for years
  22. The risk of being too open with your biases/positions on something as sweeping as a style is that it could lead to people saying "eh fuck Jack Brisco and Dibiase. While I'm at it, Flair is a Parv favorite, I'm dropping him to 94 to offset Parv being Parv." It's one of the reasons I try not to completely reject any style or era out of hand when thinking about a project like this, even if I know there is no way I'll vote for certain people on those grounds.
  23. All they needed was my vote
  24. Terry Funk and Ric Flair will always be my all time favorite for a litany of reasons, but Carlos Colon v. Stan Hansen just might be second. I listen to every Squared Circle Gazette show, and i would love for you guys to make time to watch that feud all of which is available on YouTube. The major angles surrounding it have been documented and when necessary translated on this board. I recognize you gents may not be able to get to it now, but if you want to see an all time great feud with wild crowds, great brawls, excellent gimmick matches and insane race baiting angles featuring the scummiest man alive Chicky Starr, this feud is for you.
