I think part of it was they were going so hard to establish Hangman as The Guy, it came off like the Joe feud was just something for him to do. Joe has such aura that even in that kind of situation he can win and it still works.
-
Well that was another marathon AEW PPV, but it delivered top to bottom IMO. Joe as champ is fine by me, and the pop for Prince Nana made me smile.
-
Every match so far has delivered, Mark Briscoe finally getting the big win was a tremendous moment and they made Kyle look like a superstar beating Mox.
-
Full Gear has been pretty great so far. Sky Team brought some Friday Night Arena Mexico action to Newark, and PAC doing bastard things to Darby was excellent. The women's 4 way tag was fun and I can't wait to see what wacky bullshit Toni and Mina come up with for the stipulation.

I get why Shelton did it, the way Bailey sold it made that kick look better than the finish would. As the veteran he'd have realized that and apparently Bailey agreed since he didn't kick out. The ref fucked up here, by holding your count you just make everyone look stupid. Refs should be trained to never hold up your counts because that's the worst thing that can happen in a match. Kills any momentum the match had, shatters the illusion that it's a legit contest, and flattens whatever the planned finish was supposed to be.
-
Also one thing AEW should take from WWE is the whole "ref calls it like a shoot" because stuff like Speedball apparently forgetting to kick out only to go right to the finish after looked pretty bad.

Watching Dyna-Collision now, and if being married for almost 20 years has taught me anything Harley was probably legit regretting that chest bump she did with WIllow

Man, if Oba Femi doesn't make millions on the main roster it's gonna be really hard for Triple H to beat the allegations.
-
Hyan and Maya getting so much time/offense sure did seem like AEW was giving them a thank you for bailing them out of a jam last week.
-
He BOUNCED. Like legit a man his size bounced off the fucking ground. That was the most horrifying thing I saw on a show where Mox was straight up stabbing dudes.

Bryan's glee at Yuta being the first one out for his team (because that meant he's get beat up the longest) got a hearty laugh from me. I love how the women's match upped the stakes for the tag title tourney too, since we'll have Toni/Mina vs Megan/Marina. Also holy shit Hobbs's ass must be made of concrete because if I took that bump off the table he did my tailbone would have shot out of my nose.

Women's Blood and Guts was beyond expectations, and I went in expecting awesomeness. Mostly everyone wearing white when Skye Blue decided to go full Muta was a great attention to detail.

In addition to this week's walkout, apparently there were issues with last week's match to where Bryan Danielson had to talk with them after the match because it didn't tell the story AEW wanted. The implication is they sandbagged Megan Bayne when they were trying to get her over as the monster crushing everyone in her path. I've seen people online pointing out that there were moments where you could see Bayne looking visibly pissed at something. If that was the case, they should be happy Megan is a pro and didn't beat the shit out of her (before anyone interprets that as my being pro-company and anti-labor here, it's unprofessional as all hell to go into a match and deliberately try to make someone look like shit when they have to be on TV every week and you don't even work there)
-
That appears to be the case, as Nixon seems to be working overtime to do damage control about the whole situation.
-
So Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize walked out an hour before Collision after being asked to lose to TayJay. Apparently they weren't happy about their first match was a three minute squash and balked about losing two weeks in a row.

I'll say that my favorite thing to do was look at the last page of The Wrestler and see their roll call of champions from all over the world, so in a sense I get it. It's not just a pro wrestling thing, I've seen people get bent out of shape in MMA and boxing over interm champs and when boxers vacate titles because the governing body wants them to fight their designated tomato can and not the money fight everyone actually wants to see. Also good for Mike Mondo, he got folks remembering the NWA still exists for the first time since the early POWERRRRRRRRRRRR days.

Hey I grew up watching JCP every weekend, so having a million belts doesn't bother me. I'm just hoping they aren't going to end up giving WWE something to be petty about because they seem to be in that kind of mood lately.

I never thought I'd see the day that Bryan Danielson was considered overrated, but here we are I suppose. It seemed like every DVD that ROH sold (which was their primary source of income) featured Bryan, and in a promotion where workrate was king he was never far from the top of the list. His WWE run is probably his most impactful considering he managed to get himself over to the point of main eventing Wrestlemania when the company clearly didn't see him at that level. I think maybe everyone's so used to fans "hijacking the show" that it's easy to forget how remarkable it was at the time for that to happen. He's someone the exact opposite of everything Vince looked for in a top guy and he willed himself into main eventing the biggest show. There's also the matter of his importance to the next generation as well. I'd wager there's a lot of people who got in the biz because they were Danielson fans and that kind of legacy can't be ignored in my opinion. Not to mention he's one of the best babyfaces I've ever seen in wrestling in terms of getting the crowd invested in the match. He's also one of the few people who seemingly is incapable of having a bad match. Sure he's been in there with a lot of other top tier workers, but he's been able to work magic with folks who maybe aren't at that level as well.

So AEW is creating another title, the National championship, which has already caused Mike Mondo (who has the NWA National title) to crash out on social media about how his is the "real" one. It's interesting how they are very clearly trying to link their title to the one from Georgia in the 80s, considering that's all part of WWE's intellectual property these days.

Popped big for Don Callis pulling out a "malfunction in the junction" in 2025.
-
Man, WWE really fucked around and made Dom the biggest star in the US and Mexico at the same time
-
Man that was Jade's best match in WWE by a mile, who'd have thought booking her like Brock Lesnar works better. She's like opposite John Cena, she absolutely sucked as a face and should never have stayed that way so long.
-
Yeah I have to wonder if when Stephanie Vaquer was dreaming of going to WWE that meant them employing her abuser as well.

A Griff Garrison sighting! Any time I see him still the only thing I can think if is Mr. Brodie Lee yelling "WHO THE FUCK IS GRIFF GARRISON?"
