  1. Surprised the fans haven't gone full Philly mode and shat all over this yet.
  2. They make things that should be simple like this and the flag match needlessly complicated.
  3. Yeah how is the live crowd supposed to see what is going on here?
  4. It's weird to think Mike's defining heel trait is "guy who loves his wife".
  5. They need to go full 90s HBK and have Maria singing his song.
  6. Rusev's arm bleeding through his Bulgaria tattoo is a nice accidental touch.
  7. Also super patriot Cena should know the flag isn't supposed to touch the ground.
  8. This match would probably get mega heat in 1983 Mid South, but who could possibly give a shit about a flag match in 2017?
  9. Syndication happened in 1982 so the first one in the Network content dump might actually be the first one aired outside of the territory.
  10. Paul's promo on Joe about he's the one Samoan the Anoa'i family doesn't claim was pretty great. There's been more than a couple occasions where it seemed like he was the only one trying to sell the fans on whatever PPV was coming up.
  11. Probably about the same time since everyone else in the promotion who died would have anyway with how plentiful drugs were. The only thing that would have changed is maybe Mike would still be alive since there wouldn't have been the pressure to be seen on the same level as Kerry and Kevin. Kerry not wrecking his bike and destroying his foot would probably be the better "what if" scenario since that's really what started escalating the drug issues, and a healthy Kerry would probably have been big enough of a draw to keep them running a few extra years.
  12. I just watched Kevin Von Erich win a match via body scissors while the opponent was standing up. He had such ridiculous core strength it's interesting to think about how he'd fare today with all the acrobatic styled guys working today. Like Kevin vs Zack Sabre or Will Ospreay would be an amazing match if Kevin didn't potato the shit out of everyone.
  13. Somehow I've never seen midcard/JTTS babyface Tom "Boogaloo" Shaft before. If you're wondering, yes he's black.
  14. Started with the earliest 1982 episode, and King Kong Bundy with hair will never not be jarring to see.
  15. The match was the loser had to be the winner's servant for a day, David won and made him and Sunshine be farmhands. I watched it not too long ago and it was still great. Instead of doing it like a wacky skit like WWE would do today, they had Bill Mercer go to the farm and cover it like he was reporting on a news event.

    The Mae Young Classic

Listening to some non Observer wrestling podcasts and it seems like there's some chatter in the wrestlingverse that people in WWE (and you can probably guess who) were not happy at how many of the competitors were not the usual standard of WWE attractive.
  17. David vs Jimmy Garvin might just be the most entertaining feud they did btw, so don't sleep on the non Birds related stuff. Plus being Texas based there's always the random Mil Mascaras appearances and oddball stuff like Tony Charles showing up under a mask as Checkmate.
  18. Yes. The angle was actually set up earlier in the show where David filled in for Buddy Roberts (who was "late" in storyline) to win the tournament to crown the first six man champs, and David vacated his portion for the Birds to give it to Buddy because brotherhood was important and whatnot.
  19. Christmas 82 was the Kerry-Flair cage match where Hayes slammed the door, which was the kick off. So 1983 was the hottest year.
  20. the WCCW dump has begun, and a year earlier than the rumors were saying to boot. That's going to be 100% of my network viewing going forward.

    NXT talk

Funny how crowd burnout is plaguing both NXT and GFW these days. Maybe it's an Orlando thing? Not to sound too old mannish here but long taping sessions were the norm when the territories started going on TV. If crowds could maintain excitement through an all day death march of jobber matches that was a mid 80s Superstars taping, why are these crowds completely dead after a couple of shows?
  22. What I remember most from that match was Davey Boy hitting the sickest-to-that-point-in-time Tombstone on Davis. Never recall seeing anyone else bouncing on a bump like that on those hard ass 80s WWF rings.
  23. I don't think Brock gives two shits if he can beat anyone, he wants to know how big the check is UFC's willing to pony up to have him fight. It's really a perfect storm for him: UFC's owners are under pressure to make money drawing fights to pay off the loans made to buy the company, and the biggest proven draws are Brock and Ronda (and GSP too but Dana's still being a twat to him). Ronda's not coming back anytime soon, so Brock has the upper hand in any talks they might have.
  24. The 2/8/86 show should be the one where Savage wins the IC title from Santana. I always thought it was funny how they tried to shoehorn this match into the Danny Davis: Heel Ref angle (which I don't think happened yet) because Randy won via heel shenanigans.
  25. WWE has always a phobia of top guys leaving, and in their minds they are probably afraid he'll end up going to New Japan and becoming a huge business changing star there.
