Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
sek69 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I have to say, I've finally punted on TNA, I've been watching more or less consistently since the Fox Sports days, and when I thought they were finally going to get past the mass incompetence of the Dixie Era it ends up turning into Global Force cosplaying as TNA. -
I've long suspected that WWE (or whatever company works on their behalf) has a list of terms they search for that tend to be trigger words.

With Flair gone, Dusty probably stays, which might not sound like the greatest result but perhaps without the ongoing power struggles more guys end up getting elevated without being turned into potential political pawns. What's really interesting is with Flair leaving on less harsh terms there wouldn't be the backlash from him getting fired in 1991, which would make WCW not in a position to want to bring in Hogan when they did to turn things around. Say what you will on what killed WCW, but IMO the ball was set rolling by bringing in Hogan and catering to his every whim past the point where it made sense to do so. So with a potentially more stable environment, maybe Bischoff doesn't end up in charge to plant the seeds of the downfall. Of course the flaw in that scenario is that Flair wasn't really a fit for WWF at that time when he did go, so I don't know if arriving a few years earlier would have made too much of a difference. If he leaves for a year or two and goes back to WCW, then history probably plays out like it did only with things happening a little sooner.

In 1988 JCP was still a very big part of TBS's audience at the time. There was really nothing much on the channel at that time other than Braves and Hawks games. Most of the other programming was cartoons and syndicated shows from the 60s and 70s.

Yeah when you can get WWE for $10, NJPW World for about $8 (pending on exchange rates), and now NWA on demand for $6, who's going to jump to spend $30 for poorly shot indy feds and PPV live feeds that seem to have issues often.

Yeah but the thing is no one ever discounted him because of race, it's because the company portrayed him as a jobber forever and suddenly thrust him into the main event when they realized there's a billion people in India. If he was ranting at the company for being possibly racist the gimmick would probably have a better chance, but to go after the fans makes no sense. I would expect the fans in India to see that too.

It seems like their coverage of things like the NCAA tournament didn't go all that well either so pro wrestling fans might be the only ones sticking around in any number.
-
It seems like people expected either PWG or ROH to jump in to make it a WWE Network Killer or somesuch thing, which was silly in retrospect since PWG doesn't do digital and Sinclair doesn't seem to care about ROH past it being cheap content for their stations.

There was no announcement to current members of the price change until they went to renew, so I wouldn't make any assumptions with this group.
-
If the price increase was part of an announcement of signing a big name promotion to its roster I could see it, but raising the price without adding anything new (and when people are wondering why the back catalog of what you do have isn't up) is a self-kick to the nards PR wise.

The funny thing is that Jinder's whole celebration was pretty cool. Who doesn't like Bollywood style music and dance routines? Bright colors, and music you can't help moving to the beat of, all to build up a guy who's whole shtick so far is "you guys don't like me because India" when it's the only part of his character that has any likable aspect to it.

I wonder if Mae's the Joe Paterno to Moolah's Jerry Sandusky. Seems hard to believe those two could be close friends for so long and have no idea what was going on.
-
After hearing from my co worker who moonlights as an indy wrestler around here, I kind of hope every one of them signs some kind of deal with WWE just to get away from sleazy indy promoters.
-
Trish would have made more sense since she was actually a star in her era, and as far as I know, doesn't have a questionable criminal history. Honoring Mae makes no sense even without mentioning the allegations, she's been put in a place of high regard in WWE Canon just for having a long career. It's like if MLB decided to rename the World Baseball Classic after some random journeyman infielder who managed to put together an unspectacular 20 year career.
-
I'd imagine pretty much every female indy worker of note was contacted for this (isn't it a 32 person tourney?), but I would expect them to have learned from the CWC and make sure anyone who has a chance of being impressive is signed to a contract.

As Dave put it, at least they didn't name it after Stephanie.

He's been a big fan of the Friday night CMLL shows to the point where he decided he wants to cross going to an Arena Mexico show off his bucket list by the end of the year (which is something I assumed he'd have done by now being CA based all those years).

Wyatt winning was just a means to get it on Orton, he was the 2017 Stan Stasiak.
-
He was way better, but it's impossible to buy him as a threat to Brock when he loses all his feuds. Actually, it's hard to buy anyone in the 5 way as a threat other than Roman and maybe Joe since he's been running over everyone so far.

Basically starting this thread to express how irrationally happy I was to see movie buff heel Goldust again. I know it won't amount to much most likely but that was my favorite version of the Goldust character.
-
Motivated Orton always makes things better, which is why it's so frustrating when he spends most of his time in quarter speed. Nearly killing the Singh brother aside it was probably his best effort in months. As far as Jinder winning, I don't really care too much other than it being pretty blatant pandering. Like Loss said, it doesn't matter who the fans want to see pushed anymore rather than what's the next market to explore. The steroid stuff is just something to chuckle about the next time someone in the company brags about the Wellness Policy,

Drew and his TNA title reign sit in the corner weeping.

Propa to the Usos for realizing Breeze was about to wipe out some kid in the front row and grab his leg to prevent it.

Well he also mentioned he had matches with Styles and Lesnar so it wasn't like they were burying New Japan.
