  1. I never understood the idea that an English speaker (covering the bases of US/Canada/UK) couldn't get into Japanese or Mexican wrestling due to cultural or language barriers. While styles may be different, pro wrestling is not unlike music in being universal. I've been following CMLL every week on TV for the last 2-3 years and have had no problem following angles and storylines. Sometimes they lose me on promos, but it still comes down to Wrestler/Team A have an issue with Wrestler/Team B and shit's going to go down.
  2. I think the point was that Vince wasn't exactly starting from scratch, he took what his dad built up and went national.

I think the thinking that Bryan is being buried stems from the general idea of an angle like this being the heel gets his comeuppance in the end. HHH being the heel in this story has a lot of people thinking this won't happen. I don't really think it will happen that way, but I understand that Hunter's track record doesn't inspire confidence. After Vince, he has to be the most fascinating psychological case study in wrestling. Has there been anyone else in history who has literally everything he could want but is still massively insecure? Its like he could take over the WWE and make it a trillion dollar industry, but it would still bug him that Rock got more cheers than him on some random meaningless house show.

That segment was awesome, but they really should have had William Regal out there front and center doing his best disgusted face at the shenanigans he's being forced to witness.

Maria on Twitter is dropping bombs on the Bellas (she's said they blocked her coming back to WWE) by calling them the company fluffers.
  6. Dave on Twitter has been something, he'll be quiet for a while and then he just comes out on fire. I just have this image of him sitting on the couch after a few beers and being all "fuck Hunter" and whip out his phone to start tweeting.
  7. Pretty much every time Cena faces someone bigger than him it's built up as "can he beat the odds and defeat this massive beast", and his mantra of never giving up is a staple of his t-shirt line. What made it stick out to me is Bryan is someone who is believable as an underdog, as opposed to trying to paint SuperCena as someone who could ever possibly *not* beat the odds.
  8. It seems to me that people are just pre-emptively shitting on this because they are afraid HHH and/or Vince will fuck it up and they don't want to be disappointed if that happens. Personally, I find it hilarious that Bryan has become the most over babyface in a long time by basically doing the same gimmick Cena's been doing since he stopped rapping. He fights the odds and never gives up, only he does it in a way that endears himself to the audience instead of coming off as the QB of the football team who bangs all the cheerleaders trying to paint himself as an underdog.

You know, I try to stay positive about stuff since I think sometimes there's a lot of negative-for-negative's-sake people out there, but even I don't see how this Los Matadores gimmick is going to be anything other than Conquistadores 2013.
  10. So it looks like we might get to see what a Cena-less WWE will look like, since it appears he's actually going to get surgery to fix the titty growing out of his elbow. He's been missing houseshows leading up to SummerSlam, and it looks like he'll be done for a while afterwards. Considering they freak out when he had to miss one show for storyline purposes, this should be interesting to see.
  11. Watching people rush the aisle when Hansen would come out for the "honor" of having him shove them on their ass is quite a thing to see.
  12. I'm married with a 16 month old who thankfully will sleep 12+ hours a night. Plus I work opposite shifts from my wife (she works 9-5, I work 4:45pm-1:15 am) so I have a few hours every night to watch whatever's recorded on the DVR.
  13. I think another factor in the territories dying as quickly as they did was their complete inability to work together once it became clear Vince was going national. First they all seemed to have their heads in the sand thinking the WWF would fail, and once it started to become obvious they weren't you had things like Pro Wrestling USA only running shows for a couple months and Verne screwing Memphis and WCCW at SuperClash III. They couldn't get out of their own way long enough to ever really give Vince a run for his money.

It seems that way, but then what? Orton as 2013 Corporate Rocky doesn't sound all that appealing, and the idea of beating Bryan seconds after winning just seems like another case of WWE conditioning fans to not give a shit about someone because that means they'll get beat.

The weird thing is Cena would clearly be the corporate champion in that scenario, but Vince is all "I hate Cena too and I hope the both spontaneously combust". It comes off as forced since they have an almost pathological aversion to anything that would imply a heel turn for Cena.

So based on the skit with Hunter, Steph, and Vince it appears Daniel Bryan is doing the same gimmick they did with Mankind in 1998. Vince doesn't want someone looking like that as champion, so they give him a "corporate makeover".
  17. Wasn't the roots of J-Tex from Hiro buying the Horsemen from JJ (playing off the fact that Japanese businesses bought some NYC landmark buldings IIRC), then he merged with Gary Hart's stable?
  18. I don't know if Dave has a shitty phone or if Bryan's audio setup is that good, but he sounds like a different person when he does shows in person as opposed to via phone.
  19. They started this year with less PPVs. They did a big ass taping over a couple of weekends and the other 8 shows are aired internationally and put on PPV for no one to watch. TV builds to the four remaining, which they actually have been doing a decent job of. The problem with TNA is pretty much no one is aware they exist. Every ex WWE guy who's in TNA has stories of running into fans and being asked "when are you going to come back to wrestling?".
  20. I can't wait for the Global shows to start airing, it's been too long since wrestling had someone get bungee'd into outer space.
  21. So after getting the #AskDixie hashtag hijacked by people making loltna jokes and just generally ripping the company apart, Dixie posted this on the TNA site: Remember guys, when you hear stories of low pay or mistreatment of wrestlers, IT'S ALL FOR YOU THE FANS~!
  22. In fairness there is a thing called personal lives as well as sources. I get that, but if you can't talk about it then don't tease it when the very nature of the folks listening are going to want to know the whole story.
  23. Pretty sure he said/meant Don was Blears' daughter's boyfriend. Also Dave's been doing one of my least favorite Meltzerism lately mentioning Paige "did herself a disservice" which possibly could cause WWE to keep her in developmental longer. Bryan tried to pry it out of him, but all Dave would give up was that it was something involving her doing something immature when they are wary of calling anyone up before age 21. What irks me about it is Dave's doing a show for people paying him for info, and if it's something he needs to keep on the D/L for whatever reason there's no need to cocktease your audience.

Is Wrestling Inc. a credible news source? I'm wondering because on the latest Court Bauer & John Pollock show at mlw.com, Court is talking about a guy in developmental who's in the doghouse right now, could be on the bubble to be released, and it would absolutely shock people. The way he described him (guy who's been there for a long time, frustrated that he hasn't been called up yet while others have passed him by, might be losing motivation to train as hard and isn't taking advantage of the new gym) I thought for sure he was talking about Hero. This article and it's "source" reads like someone listened to that podcast and extrapolated from that I think they might have added some dramatics to the story (I doubt he's in danger of getting released), but it's clearly not smart to decide to protest your lack of promotion by slacking off in the gym department. Developmental is Hunter's baby, and we all know he's a bodybuilding mark, so a developmental guy showing an unwillingness to hit the gym is the career equivalent of shooting yourself in the head. Considering Hero has the same skinny-fat build as Punk without all the tats to distract your eye from it, he could have played his hand better.

I think the deal with the Wyatt Family is that Bray is so good both promo wise and in-ring that people in NXT didn't really seem to notice too much that the other two aren't as good. Also the darkened entrance with the creepy lamb mask over Bray's shoulder is one of the best they've done in years.
