Austin Aries: The Adventures of an Arrogant Asshole
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to KawadaSmile's topic in Pro Wrestling
Everybody bought into Low-Ki, but you don't think anybody bought into Aries? Well, I guess I must be the exception that proves the rule then. Aries was a way more rounded performer than Ki, could pretty much do it all in the ring from fiery underdog to asshole heel, all of his shit looked good and he was really good at building to and mixing up his big spots. Low-Ki was good at what he did I guess though I was never particularly impressed with him, but Aries was legit one of the best US workers of the last 20 years. Piece of shit human being, but great worker. -
Austin Aries: The Adventures of an Arrogant Asshole

Aries is twice the worker Low-Ki is. -
Yeah, that's right. I seem to remember disclaimers for some of the more salacious Attitude era stuff too. Been a while since I canceled the network though.
-
I know Disney+ uses a disclaimer before a lot of their old cartoons, warning that some of the content may be racially insensitive. I think something like that would be appropriate here, but I don't agree with cutting stuff out. Actually, now that I think about, I believe the network had disclaimers on stuff anyway.

I thought the Cena/AJ Summerslam match was absolutely dreadful, but I think AJ is a really overrated wrestler anyway.

The grand and pathetic journey of the Undertaker at WrestleMania
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to El-P's topic in Pro Wrestling
Shane, for some reason, has always been thought of as the 'good' McMahon, the 'cool' McMahon. I'm not really sure where that originated from. Probably just his willingness to take crazy ass bumps. As an aside, I was at the Raw when he made his return prior to that Mania, and the pop was absolutely ridiculous. Probably the biggest I've ever heard live.- 206 replies

It gets worse for Christian if you throw Lita into the equation too.
-
I love Christian, but he was only very debatably a top five guy in those TLC matches in terms of overness.

WWE TV 03/01 - 03/07 Lashley please win this title
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I love that even when confronted with a demonic version of himself speaking to him from some sort of netherworld, Randy still can't bring himself to turn and look at the TV screen like a normal person would. -
Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
Yes, I definitely agree with this. Bobby was just too much about getting his shtick in on commentary, and it actively detracted from a lot of the matches. Him and Gorilla 'shit on everything' Monsoon are the most overrated announce team ever and Jesse does indeed smoke Heenan in the booth. -
The Thread Killer Talks Too Much: The Recaps

Just catching up with this now, TTK and really enjoyed reading the first part of Eric Fires Back. I don't really know why, maybe because I always wanted WCW to win the war, but I have a soft spot for Eric and always want to believe he's a good guy. My favourite part from that was Bret Hart saying "I have nothing good to say about him... He's a nice enough guy". I seem to remember Bret praising Bischoff in his book, calling him specifically 'a good man', or maybe it wasn't in his book but somewhere else. I didn't know they had such heat. -
WWE TV 02/08 - 02/14 Tom Brady burrying the new talent smh
Yo-Yo's Roomie replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I mean, they did for a a little while at least. I remember her cutting at least one 'you people' promo on the crowd. Fans just weren't having it though. -

The Thread Killer Talks Too Much: The Recaps

I'd vote for sticking with Bischoff and doing the Eric Fires Back series. Thanks for doing this, by the way. -
I think Charlotte was definitely a necessary component in Becky's big rise to the top a couple of years ago, in the same way that Randy Orton was a necessary component in Daniel Bryan's rise to the top, ie. they would have been over regardless, but being positioned against those particular people made it more meaningful. But when Charlotte, Sasha and Becky first got the call-up (and remember that Bayley didn't come up until later), there's no way that Sasha and Becky weren't immediately perceived as bigger stars by the fans than Charlotte, who really, nobody gave much of a shit about. And that's true going back to the NXT days too. I guess what it comes down to is that you can't really fake the natural connection to the fans that Becky seems to have, nor the natural star power of a Sasha Banks. With Charlotte, they had to work really hard to get her to where they wanted her to be, and it's debatable whether it actually worked.

The type of heat she got can definitely be harnessed into something worthwhile, but it has absolutely nothing to do with her charisma, of which she has none that I've ever seen, or her 'showmanship', which seems to just involve coming out in a robe and awkwardly blowing kisses. And I think we have to be wary about drawing a correlation between heat in the building and actually adding tangibly to the product. Heat is good, don't get me wrong, but if you're actively turning people off from watching or eroding any faith viewers might have in the decision-making abilities of those in charge (which WWE can't stand to take any further hits on), then is it worth it?

I don't care one way or the other about Eva Marie getting resigned. Good for her I guess. But I can't believe there are people actually trying to force a narrative that she ever offered anything beyond her look. She was about as wooden as pretty much anyone I've ever seen and I think it was that complete lack of personality which actually earned her the backlash she got as much as any failures at the mechanical side of wrestling.

I've put together a 2048-person wrestling tournament on facebook, and am looking for people to participate. I've included wrestlers from all eras (as long as at least some footage exists), all promotions and all styles, to be judged mainly on in-ring work. If anyone here is interested in taking part, here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/135912000964202/?hc_ref=ARS3Os26pSnQlDmkNeuMwE74S5253hPdwhHQ1JSI76ozC4eLnZW5okazHvr4I8JfDpE&fref=gs&dti=135912000964202&hc_location=group -
Fatu Vs Park is my MOTY, probably followed by Cody/Dustin.
-
Thanks for the write-up, Coffey. I don't give a shit about Scurll and he makes me less interested in watching the show, but he's a good pick-up for them. I was hoping Luke Harper would show up.
-
No, they didn't even reference it.

So bummed they changed the advertised Davey Boy Vs Ohtani match to Davey Vs Ki. This latest show definitely had a last match of the tapings feel to it.
