[1990-01-06-NWA-Worldwide] Norman the Lunatic and Woman
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
This was just goofy. I agree that Norman the Lunatic's painting was actually better than what it should have been. Woman was looking nice here and the paint on the face of Norman was a nice touch.- 16 replies

[1990-01-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and King Cobra
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Fantastic promo work from Lawler here who shows that he is the master of put-downs. King Cobra's mic work is nothing to write about, but Lawler carries this one and makes it great. I am definitely looking forward to more Lawler on this set.- 20 replies

[1990-01-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Dustin Rhodes and Gary Young promos
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Dustin tries to emulate his father with his promo. Gary Young with an odd hairstyle cuts an entertaining promo where he calls Dustin a mistake and he should have been aborted. In today's world he would be apologizing on Twitter for that promo.- 16 replies

This was great and a ton of fun. It was nice to see all the managers out there together, and it made me miss the era of the manager. Great way to hype up the Rumble, but you have to admit that Heenan's guys are who you would put your money on here.

[1990-01-06-WWF-Superstars] Rick Martel and Brutus Beefcake
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Rick Martel looked like a flasher in that coat he was wearing. Beefcake proves Martel's point that he doesn't know anything about fashion when he "redesigns" the coat and puts it on. Fun little segment here, but I don't think it really led to anything.- 24 replies

[1990-01-04-AJW] Akira Hokuto & Yumiko Hotta vs Toshiyo Yamada & Etsuko Mita
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
This was a joy to watch. The crowd was very loud for this, which is a nice change of pace compared to the other matches on this set that I've watched so far. Very intense match here with the use of the rear choke being the highlight of the match. Very nice intro to Joshi for the year and I am very much looking forward to seeing what else they can bring throughout the 90's.- 21 replies

I really enjoyed this match and it is my favorite on the set thus far. It came across to me like The Fantastics were the better team here as they were constantly going for the double team to stay in control, but Footloose were able to maintain the advantage the longer they kept it one-on-one in the ring. In the end Footloose was able to finally string some offense together as a team to pull off the win. Great match; not so great crowd.

[1990-WWA] El Hijo del Santo & Blue Demon Jr vs Eddy & Mando Guerrero
Laney replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
I would rank this below the previous lucha match, but this is still a good watch. A lot more brawling in this one with Eddy executing a lot of his nice looking European uppercuts. The match seemed to go down a notch when Mando was in the ring. The trickery with Mando wearing Santo's mask is an entertaining concept, but it's one of those things where if you stop and analyze it, it doesn't make much sense.- 21 replies

I'm not really into lucha, but recently I've started watching some IWRG. All of these guys were very good in executing their moves and everything was very smooth. Santo and Casas stood out as being a level above everyone else in this match, but everyone looked pretty good in this. I wouldn't say this is a great match, but it was good and a nice match to start off the set. I also have to chime in and say that the crowd shots were a little distracting and seemed to take away from the match.

This was my first time seeing this music video, and man was it cheesy. The song was horrible, but catchy. There was actually some very good looking wrestling clips in this video and Owen was a nice surprise.

I just got back home from my WrestleMania weekend trip. Overall I thought that WrestleMania was fun, but it didn't have the feeling of a major show. It seemed like booking wise they were trying to play everything on the safe side and it wasn't what the crowd wanted. Not having Ziggler cash in was a huge mistake and it just pissed off a crowd that wasn't that great to begin with. It seemed like Undertaker/Punk was the only match that had a great reaction. I didn't think HHH/Lesnar was that bad of a match, but the crowd was dead after Taker/Punk and the placement of this match killed it. I thought that Cena/Rock was the worst match on the card. Probably 90% of the match consisted of signature moves. It just seemed like they were trying too hard to have an epic match and it just completely failed.

Just terrible news. Just a horrible thing to hear, especially considering his age. I can't imagine what Flair is going through. There can't be anything worse for a parent than losing your child.

After taking a quick look it seems that Bourne has been gone since January 2012; so over a year at this point. What has he done since that time, I know he broke his foot, but I haven't heard of him working any dark matches or NXT. I'm surprised he still has a job at this point. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have a job. I would absolutely love to see him brought back.

[1995-10-29-WWF-Halloween Havoc] Hulk Hogan vs The Giant
Laney replied to Loss's topic in October 1995
I don't think there is anything good that can be said about this. I guess you can say that it is notable as it is the first match where Hogan wore the black. I did find the Yeti to be entertaining in a trainwreck, "wtf am I watching?" kind of way. The Yeti/Giant double bearhugs were quite the sight to see. Also "The Yeh Tay is taller than The Giant!"- 10 replies

[1995-10-29-WWF-Halloween Havoc] Hulk Hogan vs The Giant (Monster Truck Battle)
Laney replied to Loss's topic in October 1995
This was just terrible and completely stupid. The idea that this whole thing was drawn out and worked like a match is astounding. Definitely a memorable moment. This needs to be shown when ever anybody complains about how bad WWF was in 1995. I don't think anything they did touched this monstrosity.- 9 replies

I'm not sure exactly where I stand on this one. On one hand Flair did an excellent job here in executing the turn. Flair coming out bandaged up to help out Sting only to turn on him and reveal that he was never attack was done perfectly. On the other hand, it made no sense, especially how they played it off like this was the plan all along. Flair and Arn pretending to feud with each other and having Pillman come to Arn's aid so that Flair has to beg for Sting to help him. The whole plan just seems really convoluted. Also, I have to say that I was not a fan of the match itself. The beatdown on Sting before Flair's run-in just seemed to go on for too long. Sting also played off a little two strong when it was 2-on-1 for my taste.

I'm not. Paul Bearer is more known of a name in mainstream media than Bret Hart, Ric Flair and even John Cena, amongst people of a certain demographic. People who remember watching wrestling in the early 90's remember The Undertaker and Paul Bearer. What demographic is that exactly? Bret and Flair were wrestling in the early 90's and were arguably bigger stars than Taker and Bearer at the time. I struggle to imagine somebody that would know who Paul Bearer is but not Ric Flair. Then you need to get out of the wrestling bubble. That just doesn't make any sense. What has Paul Bearer done outside of wrestling? None of my friends that weren't fans of wrestling know who Paul Bearer is. However, they know who Flair is as I originally mentioned. I was just wanting to know what exactly the demographic is you were talking about as it doesn't make sense to me. Thanks for the explanation. Also, early 90's was used in his argument, that's not the Attitude era. If you want to argue that, then I argue that Undertaker wasn't involved the nWo angles.

In the sense that he's about the same size as Randy Couture...yeah, you're probably right. Who's the most normal-looking guy who Lesnar worked with during his original run? RVD maybe. There's the match against Spanky.

I can't wait to see that match! I'm really behind on NXT (January 2013) but it seems like there should be a nice long build up to the match since things seem to be headed in that direction from what I've watched thus far. I really need to start watching NXT again and get caught up.

I agree that Jericho/Fandango seems like it makes the most sense to go under a minute. I just don't see the Fandango gimmick going anywhere. I can only hope the divas tag match will be as short as possible.

To be fair, everyone's perennial favorite, Wrestlemania 17 had 11 matches. That show had 4 matches under the 4 minute mark, counting the match from Heat. I'm not saying that this WrestleMania will be on that level, but I wouldn't discard it just by looking at the amount of matches.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper
Laney replied to Loss's topic in April 1992
I love this match. WrestleMania VIII one of the few wrestling tapes that the video rental in my hometown had, so I watched this many times as a child. I really enjoyed the story of this match and I definitely rank it as Piper's best. In his book Bret writes that he fooled Vince with the blade job and avoided paying a fine since everyone thought it was hardway. He also writes that the Flair bladejob on the same show was blatantly obvious and both Flair and Savage were fined.- 38 replies

[1995-10-29-WWF-Halloween Havoc] Diamond Dallas Page vs Johnny B. Badd
Laney replied to Loss's topic in October 1995
This match was pretty good but went on for too long (about 17 minutes). These two worked pretty well together but there were moments where the action kind of lulled.- 5 replies
