I've seen a lot of Casas on yearbooks as well as staying on top of his work from the last 3-5 years online. How about some recs to fill in those gaps?
-
Granted, I didn't watch this in real time but going back through the tapes years later Oz always felt like someone who was actively working as a heel whereas Kawada just seemed slotted there more and wasn't outwardly a babyface like Kobashi. He'd have clearly been the face against Oz.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread

Dave just tweeted that there are 7 inductees this year. -
Definitely enjoyed it but failed to meet admittedly incredibly high expectations. Also some very noticeable editing and jump cuts here.

Thanks for doing this. Curated playlists are clearly the future of music and video. Seconded. This is *much* appreciated.

Looking at the top 15 from last time I can't wait to see some of the changes.

While I don't put much stock in being the best of the 2000s for these purposes, I think Bryan's body of work -- both the high-end standouts as well as the depth / consistency -- is more than enough to include him in the discussion with the bests of any era. Looking back at much of his career is a project I hope to get to this fall/winter with an aim towards figuring out exactly where he slots in. As noted above, he's in my top 5-10 now but I'd like to confirm that to be the case and figure out just where in that mix he falls.

Fun and interesting to see Hash work a US studio match. Business picked up when Hash stopped pretending Corino's offense had any impact and began kicking the hell out of him. Perhaps not something you need to revisit or go out of your way to see, but Hash in a completely different setting and almost working a squash was enjoyable.

Parv, really insightful thoughts on Kawada. I haven't been able to put down just why he's below Misawa & Kobashi for me, but your points in particular about him on the mat are spot on. All of this needs to be kept in perspective as we're talking about someone who's very likely a top 10 GOAT candidate, at worst, but looking at what distinguishes him from his peers in that category. As far as his work outside of the other AJ greats, have you seen any of the Footloose tags?

This started a bit slowly for me as it didn't seem like they were on the same page. Back and forth offense without any real transitions, and it seemed like Hero was just beginning to figure out what has become his current in-ring approach. Things picked up when KENTA forced the pace as Hero was great putting hit offense over. Some nice near falls down the stretch featuring some great trading of strikes that really turned up the heat. Would like to see current Hero vs. this KENTA. ***1/4

Does Cena have to drop it?

The biggest problem I see is that much like last year, where Reigns was out due to injury, is absolutely nothing has been done to heat him up for a Rumble or top level Mania match. Short of a hot heel turn on someone, what's going to kickstart the character in time for that this time around?
-
Haha I envy your time! Checked off yesterday's box with Morton-Ole and am hoping to tick off Chris Hero-KENTA today, but if not I may cheat a bit as I just watched Freebirds vs. Dibiase & Taylor within the past couple weeks so that's a solid fallback.

[1986-10-11-NWA-Worldwide] Ricky Morton vs Ole Anderson
WingedEagle replied to Grimmas's topic in October 1986
What's the deal with this crowd? Is there something legendary about it? It was *beyond* hot for such a simple, effective match. Tremendous heat for Ole working arm and ribs early, and they manage to take it up a notch for Morton's comebacks, which were basically nothing more than punching. Just hot throughout, especially on Ole's awesome diving headbutt to the midsection to cut Ricky off. The post-match was great as well, with Arn grinding Ricky's face into the concrete while Ole & Tully double Dusty. This was super fun. May be overshooting things here, but despite the length and finish the heat was just so insane I can't go lower at this time than ***1/4.- 5 replies

I absolutely love this idea. It remains to be seen how I fit this in within everything else I try to watch and with schedule limitations (i.e. barely home from work in time for Raw, then usually right to bed after that), but if I shoot for one match a day it'll add even more variety to our regularly scheduled programming.

[1992-09-15-SWS] Ric Flair vs Genichiro Tenryu (2/3 falls)

Yes, yes it is. I'm actually glad we got it with '92 Tenryu rather than let's say mid-80s Tenryu.- 14 replies

I prefer Hansen's brawling because Funk too often turns up the cartoonish aspects of his work.

Like Grimmas said, I'm sure many of our blind spots will cancel each other and at the end of the day its just a snapshot of what we've seen and think at a given point. Hopefully, though, we don't have to wait 10 more years to take another snapshot! That seems so long.

That'd make sense. If there's a real cost in dollars and hours I'd expect a focus on more recent, better produced material.
