Awesome ring entrances -- best on the year so far -- are followed by a ridiculous hot opening with everyone brawling all over the place and an MA2K dive onto Aguayo. Caras pinning Konnan with one finger to take the first fall was such a great heel move. I know Caras got no love as a worker in the WON during this period but man does he ever play the role to perfection. The second fall sees more of a heel beatdown until the faces turn the table with Rayo tearing up MA2K's mask. The finish with a big hook by Chicana was great, but I didn't quite follow why Konnan just stood there and watched it happen. ****1/4

Solid finishing stretch with the champs working well with the bigs but not able to finish the job as Vader & Bigelow win with a double splash followed by a choke slam after a number of near falls.

[1992-03-01-NJPW-Big Fight Series] Masa Chono vs Shinya Hashimoto
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
This went a bit long and was slow in spots, but they delivered enough at critical moments to keep things compelling. Hash of course delivers a bloody noce and the heat picks up when they start trading kicks, even if its Chono can't quite match the brutality. Conclusive victory for Shinya. ***1/4- 11 replies

[1991-02-24-WCW-Wrestle War '91] Lex Luger vs Dan Spivey
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1991
Years back -- we're talking long before the DVD era, the guy I bought tapes from was kind of to put together an awesome Luger comp at my request. Started with a couple early Flair matches from Florida and culminated before he was given the title after Flair left. Really wish I still had that.- 13 replies

Second for Hash vs. Choshu from the '96 G1. You can make the case for the G1 outings vs. Tenryu or Muto or even Takada at the Dome, but this was the one I saw that put me on the Hash bandwagon and remains a personal favorite to this day.

I just watched all of the Hansen vs. Colon feud through the bullrope match, which felt like a hell of a climax until the post-match and Chicky Starr Sports Shop segment above, so we'll see what the last 2 matches have to offer. Loved the way it all built and the bullrope match itself was definitely awesome, though I still prefer Superbrawl 3 as the best of its kind.

I'll second vs. Owen on Raw in 97.

Larry Matysik's 50 Greatest Professional Wrestlers
WingedEagle replied to Al's topic in Megathread archive
I haven't reread the thread to see if it was already laid out, but what are the specific criteria? -
I'll second vs. Sullivan, Bash '96. Far and away my favorite and most rewatchable even if vs. Angle at Rumble '03 is his best.

Pretty awesome to wake up and find this kind of walk through. Will have to check it all out now.

Don't recall the date but I'll go with Meng vs. The Giant from Nitro. Pretty epic for a match of that length. A real clash of the titans.

Not even worth dignifying that kind of nonsense with a response. Hyperbole is silly.

Closing things out with a third vote for Vader vs. Sting at Superbrawl 3. Let's move on to Randy Savage, and I'll go Mania 7 vs. Warrior.
-
Someone needs to 3rd the 10 man or Vader match so we can move on before Inoki brings in Cro Cop to kick this thread off of tv.

What an absolute blast. February was an incredible month -- 8 four star plus matches by my count plus a few others just shy, and from all over the world. Throw in fun promos and angles from the territories and its just such a breeze.

[1992-02-29-UWFi-Sekai Gannen 3rd] Hiromitsu Kanehara vs Masakazu Maeda
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
This was GREAT. Awesome matwork early which saw them battle over an armbar, stiff kicks from both and a German from Kanehara that came across as an incredibly big move given the style and layout of the match. Kanehara gets the win with an awesome looking crab that he just wrenches back incredibly and drags Kanehara to the center to prevent a rope break. More UWFI! ****1/4- 13 replies

I had a tough time figuring out when the first fall here ended. Wasn't too concerned as everything was great. I'm not sure this is the best way to describe it, but Casas simply moves and carries himself like someone who was born to play the role of professional wrestler. Everything he does looks completely instinctual and natural. Great stretch run after we had the fun comedy bit in the rudo corner. ****1/4

[1992-02-29-WCW-Superbrawl II] Sting vs Lex Luger
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
As a Sting mark at the time I couldn't wait for this. Nice pop at the finish, though I wonder how they decided on a flying cross body for the title change. You'd expect the Scorpion or a barrage of his splashes to give him a trademark victory rather than something that wasn't built as a killer move.- 16 replies

[1992-02-29-WCW-Superbrawl II] Rick Rude vs Ricky Steamboat
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
The Milwaukee crowd is ridiculously hot for Rude. I had forgotten how well Rude worked underneath, as he did a stellar job selling his back and arm here, and has done so most times out this year. Not a fan of the finish but they weren't ready to go clean here yet. ***1/2- 24 replies

Great match on a great card, but not a MOTYC for me at all. The faces work with Austin, especially Windham's, was really crisp throughout. Loved Larry's antics and losing his cool when things weren't going their way as well as Windham's segment as FIP. Nice win and I am very glad the whole Dangerous Alliance run on top still has a few more months. ***3/4

[1992-02-29-WCW-Superbrawl II] Jushin Liger vs Brian Pillman
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
I think there's a case to be made that this match is both overrated and underrated for its import in featuring LHW's in a major promotion. While not the classic it was looked as that night, this still holds up really well and is a great match. One thing that doesn't hold up are the production values, as this looks much darker and more minor league compared with what WWF was putting out at the time. Liger works over Pillman's knee early with a figure four and kneebreaker before breaking into the high spots, including a dive on the floor that Ventura calls a moonsault. They build to a spectacular finishing stretch with Liger nailing a German suplex, power bomb and superplex while Pillman hits a sweet flying cross body and dive to the floor before bringing the LHW title back to WCW. ****1/4- 22 replies

Another fun, quick brawl in this series with more weapons and madness. JYD & the BBD didn't bring things down too much. Lee delivers a great promo in the back afterwards. ***
