I think it's a case of Tony once again being a yes-man to one of his favorites. Danielson has said he asked Tony to not book him to close out PPVs anymore and in this case, with two other hometown wrestlers having way better feuds leading up to the show (Swerve and Darby) it made sense to not put him in that spot so he got his wish. I highly doubt that after 4+ hours of wrestling, that Seattle crowd would've been able to be engaged in a mat based encounter with some stiff striking. Specially because there's literally no stakes in Dragon vs Sabre. Who ends up as "the best technical wrestler in the planet" means basically nothing. It's not a "title" that fans have ever cared about and it's not like the build up to this matchup had any chance to change that perception either. But if you put that match in the middle or the first third of the show, they are probably gonna be waaay more receptive and into Sabre's inventive holds/counters and Danielson having to react to them.

I wonder if the live crowd is gonna be expecting Edge to close the show.

At this point I don't think there's a possible "MJF heel turn" unless it's a against OC or Eddie Kingston. If Undisputed Era returns and Max joins them, they are all gonna be cheered and be treated as faces. And if they feuding with BCG, then they will be even bigger faces, lol.

AEW TV - 9/20 - 9/23 - Grand Slam With No Apostrophes
Jmare007 replied to Timbo Slice's topic in AEW
My point is that by making Edge debut and "skipping line" (which is something I personally don't care, but a lot of fans love to make a big deal out of) by being the one to dethrone MJF, AEW would be testing that loyalty for no good reason. -

It also had WWE having awful numbers and business being saved only because of TV deals, Peacock and Saudis, plust they were the only big promotion in the US. It wasn't unltil they stopped booking to make people mad at the company that they started to gain big steam and having this mini boom they are having. AEW is not in a position like WWE were they can rely on income that's independent of the quality of their own product and pissing off their fanbase will be more costly. Specially when the alternative (WWE) is such a hot product. Only way it would work if Edge has enough pull among WWE only fans to make the jump. And I highly doubt that's the case. -

I think it would get "fuck this company" kind of heat. The kind WWE loved to get from 2014 to 2020 and the kind AEW was kind of built on never making the fans go through it. Ricky Starks beating MJF at whatever the new December PPV is (or winning it at Winter is Coming TV episode) would be the best choice, imo. Have Ricky beat Danielson at Full Gear and then challenge Max 1 year after he made the leap to the main event as the first defense to Max. I feel like if Starks doesn't get a big push now, Tony is gonna lose him to WWE like he did Jade (and Cody, who recruited Jade to the E' and is very close to Ricky). -

MJF and Roddy arguing about who has the most fucked up neck while Cole tries to do rehab would be funny, I'll give you that. -

Considering it's a nothing match, I think they are better off running an injury angle (that MJF might take offense to, considering he wrestled with a fucked up neck) and keeping Cole healthy than risking more damage against The Righteous. -

The finish of Dragon vs Starks was brutal, gawd damn from the stomps to the head, to Ricky getting his mouth busted open to getting his head blasted with a knee wrapped up with a chain. I really wanted Ricky to win but I guess Danielson is finally getting the wins and protection he should've had 12-18 months ago. Kevin Kelly continues to be a fucking awful btw. How the hell you sell a "dream match" on PPV by saying the AEW star will be handicapped. The Sabre match has nothing on the line so selling the idea that Dragon will not be 100% (even though it's pretty obvious considering his injuries) just takes away from the match and adds absolutely nothing to it. -

That's what it was? I thought he was selling an attack from Joe from last week or something (haven't been watching Dynamite lately) -

Claudio using Misawa's tights was a cool touch. Can only imagine how a crowd would react to Eddie winning the AEW world title. -
Tony does not know how to book the women if it's not a title match program -and even in those, the angles are pedestrian at best- and Britt needed at least a year away from chasing any belts so she got lost in limbo like so many of AEW's roster.

Yeah, WWE is for sure getting him. The only question is the type of deal they offer him. I still think they are best suited for a short stint that milks the most out of his name value and ends before Punk gets any big ideas about his role in the company. Even if WWE decides to wait because they don't need him, they will still call him eventually.

I read it's Starks vs Dragon in a Texas Death Match next week? I know he has the Saber match coming up but Ricky better win that shit...

I tuned out after the cool opener, I guess the little girls screaming her lungs out got tired?

To the things @MoS pointed out, there's also a huge issue with how expensive AEW tickets are compared to the first show they have in a market. Fans have very little incentive to buy a weekly TV ticket in advance when they either don't have much expectations about a show worth watching or they know tickets will go waaay down the week of the show. Though, as Grand Slam has shown, there's big portion of fans that don't bother checking out twice to see if prices went down.

The pop for Rock's music hitting was insane. It's pretty wild when we judge how over some of these wrestlers are (or are getting) and then something of a completely different level like that shit happens.
-
These advances are pretty damn terrible. Maybe it's time to move on from MJF as champ and let him and Cole cook without having the strap involved?

As most people were anticipating, tomorrow there will be a lot of cuts for people with office jobs. Endeavor's very first 'deavors season.

She's gonna do even better in WWE. They are more suited to play to her strengths and give her enough reps to get better in the ring. The biggest question is if she's willing to be a more full time performer or she'll get special treatment (and how that would fare in the E's polĂtical climate).

Great Danielson interview. Talks about losing Punk, Starks and his coming future as an sporadic wrestler https://www.si.com/fannation/wrestling/news/bryan-danielson-details-his-future I could see him showing up on a Lucha show with a mask for a 2 month run in 2026, lol.

Seems FOX is out of the next TV deal negotiations and Amazon or Disney will get them. HHH was spotted next to Jeff Bezos at NY Fashion Week too.
