This year has taught me that when it comes to Dynamite's ratings, it's all about the lead in to the show. The final number lives and breathes on what BBT gives them -my main surprise is how much the NBA and NHL playoffs impacted the BBT lead in this year, would have never guessed it could be a factor, lol- and this week TBS didn't air that show and put the first Black Panther film (because of Juneteenth would be by guess).

Okada vs Ultimo Guerrero had me when announced for Collision. I really, really hope their segment at the PPV was the feud ender, we do not need those two paired against each other anytime soon. In reality though, it probably means Cole is far from coming back and they just wanted to kick that feud for much later, which it's still a welcomed decision.

So it's Naito vs Mox at Forbidden Door. I know booking 101 points to Naito getting the belt back but I feel no one really wins anything with that result. It would be one thing if they ran that match in Japan but I think a nothing title reign by Mox that started and ended in the U.S is just a waste of an opportunity.

AEW has been a PPV company for almost two years and it seems it has finally caught up to them because fans couldn't give two shits about their weekly shows and the company isn't very interested in giving them reasons to change their minds either. And yeah, the Elite doing an authority angle was as predictably awful and doomed to fail just like the Devil angle that birthed the Undisputed Kingdom.

Well, a triple threat is also an option but that would be 100% a WWE move

Like a I said, TK can't do the rematch at Wembley. Only way to do it would be to put Ospreay for whatever reason in the Owen Hart Cup (winner gets the All In title match) while already being n°1 contender.
-
Wow, they are doing Ospreay vs Swerve at Forbidden Door and not Wembley, surprised by it because it's not like they can run it back at All In as that spot goes to the Owen Hart Cup winner and Ospreay is effectively out of that tourney. Swerve losing it so soon would be such a bummer. I know Ospreay is the most over guy on the roster right now but fuck it, take this chance to create a real rivalry between the two and have Strickland win the first one.

Fractured tibia for Copeland. Long injuries finally end, other long injuries show up. The AEW cycle. -
AEW Double or Nothing 2024 - Something Something Stays In Vegas

Thing is, the part everyone hated lasted as long as the stuff people liked. I don't think fans are eager to watch MJF vs Cole right now, the whole Undisputed Kingdom has been a complete DUD since its inception at Worlds End. Roddy could do the matches and comedy/fuckery on his own and be in the same place and just as over as right now and everyone else has zero impact on the product. -

I think I liked both women's matches the most. I hope Mercedes can stay healthy for a while, she's too damn good in the ring. And even though she's an awesome, awesome babyface, a really wanna see heel bully Willow run at some point. -
Darby replacing Eddie in Anarchy in the Arena made that match way more interesting, probably for the wrong reasons because it's basically me curious to see what insane shit Darby comes up with.
-
I'm pretty sure it got worse up until this new authority angle they are running with. We've been pointing out who they've been ratings death for months now.

Caught the end of Deeb vs May and the Omega segment. Maaan, that crowd should feel ashamed of themselves, you got your hometown guy cutting a great heartfelt promo, Okada coming out, Perry being a little shit and Keneth showing some fire and they reacted like they were watching a cool midcard angle unfolding. That one deserved much, much better from those fans.

I feel like, for the most part, Danielson's AEW run is way more about dude being "selfish". Doing the matches he wants to do, with the audience having to deal with whatever he has in store for them. He can't even help laughing and break characcter during matches, lol.. The four matches that come to mind that I can see being "self conscious" in this run are Omega, MiSu, Okada at FD (though it had to change due to his injury) and Ospreay. .
-
Yeah, they confirmed it. I hope there's more to that segment that just a happy coronation speech. Something has to happen to make it worth it.
-
Well, Collision will have its largest audience for their first segment (it airs after Heat vs Celtics) so if they wanna make this angle worth a damn, they better come up with a killer opening angle and not a random opening match.
-
Agreed, for as much as he loves wrestling, it's pretty staggering how he's doesn't see the upside of putting 1 guy over big instead of putting as many people over as possible. What makes it more weird is that he saw how that formula work when he did it with Homicide and Kofi.
-
Yeah, of all the options to delay him challenging Swerve and make him wait till August, an IC Title match was a bizarre move. And if he loses the match then it's just downright stupid.
-
Caught the angle at the end (thinking I was tuning in to watch the finish of Mox vs Hobbs, lol) and I truly hope they have a decent story to tell with this one because if the The Elite 2.0 become a heel authority figure I'm out. Done seen that fucking shit too many times in my life.
-
Now that's something I've never thought I'd read. Danielson very rarely uses false finishes compared to most of his contemporaries and can't even compare to the 2010's-2020's guys in that regard. Compared to pre 2000's guys I'd understand but one of the cool things about him is that he saves spamming false finishes for matches like the one against Ospreay. What I do think he's done a lot since leaving WWE is using the running knee more as a set up move (kind of like a lariat for a Japanese wrestler) that needs to be hit more than once to put someone down. But he's far from being someone that relies on a bunch 2,99999 counts to get the crowd going.

Official release: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/04/ftc-announces-rule-banning-noncompetes I guess we'll see more people not being used for a while before getting released to that can act as a 30-90 day buffer between the last time a wrestler was on TV and being able to work somewhere else?
-
I had forgotten about this. Danielson been thinking about that Tiger Driver spot for 10 months, lol. Shows how much respect Ospreay has for him that he was not only game for it but went out of his way to "retire" the move so when he finally uses it again, it will mean A LOT.
-
So fucking happy for Swerve. I hope they don't drop the ball on him and he gets to Wembley as a strong champ and character. We NEED Okada vs Joe for that Continental Belt. Have Okada win via cheating and then a pissed off Joe enters the Continental Classic and kills everyone, Okada included, to get that belt.
-
Who cares, Swerve can easily turn or work heel for that one match. Everyone knows Ospreay is gonna get an historical level of support in Wembley. No AEW fan is gonna go "oh Swerve was a failure" because Ospreay got a British Bulldog coronation. At the same time, AEW has an opportunity to not only give a black wrestler an awesome moment tonight but also reward a wrestler who out of sheer will and determination got over. A four month reign ending in front of 50-60k people sounds like cementing Swerve's status regardless of how the crowd reacts that night.
-
BTW, I fucking loved the "cowboy standoff/duel" ending for Danielson vs Ospreay. Has that ever been done before as a match finish?
