  1. I wish Bad Influence/Roode & Aries was a straight tag. Could be a MOTY. Maybe Hernandez will join Aces so they have 1 worker I like.
  2. **Angle/Brisco is in a Cage. Also Roode almost left the company. But did re-sign.
  3. And ya of course they need idea guys because 1 man can't come up with everything, but letting the wrestlers be creative with their characters would sure make the cream of the crop rise & all the utility wrestlers settle into their places.
  4. Ha maybe I'm reading it wrong but it looks like you said he's "both a total fucking idiot" and then just trailed off without listing a good quality.
  5. You don't like the idea of WWE going back to the 'Big 4'? I sure as hell do. Make them all 4 hours & of course you'd have a big gimmick match on each one since the MITB, Chamber, TLC & Cell ppv's would be gone. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking but "those were the days". But yeah it's probably not feasible with 36ish tv shows between each ppv. It would be difficult to stretch things out. I would be inclined to buy the 'Big 4'. For 29.95 though. I mean TNA had all this time between the horrible Genesis ppv & Lockdown and we're getting Bubba Dudley/Jeff Hardy & Stings group/Dungeon of Doom II(think about it, WWE rejects: Taz is Sullivan, Anderson is Beefcake, Devon is Meng, Knox is Kamala, Gallows is Quake & Garrett Bischoff is Kamalas jockstrap) as the double main event.
  6. You're talking about Mania 3 right? "Wrestlemania type match"?? If so, yes I like that much & freaking love that Tombstone. Best Mania Tombstone ever untill Taker killed HBK with the Jumping Tombstone at Mania 26. I love the Bulldogs. God they were just so stiff & crisp & looked like a million bucks in '85-86. They basically had 2 great years & 2 good years. I never have found any of their post WWF AJPW stuff that I fell in love with, but it makes sense cuz Kid was so badly hurting. It's funny I feel like I rate them so high based upon what they *could* have done rather than what they did actually do. My favorite match of theirs is kind of a generic pick. I'm going with the Mania 2 tag title bout vs. The Dream Team. In my book it's a ****, maybe more match. I just watched it the other day and it's just a perfect big time tag title bout & I'd say it's one of the better tag matches in the WWF that decade. Honestly I haven't watched much of their stuff in YEARS so I'm definitely going to check out that Shiek/volkoff match, sounds right up my alley. I wish the Bulldogs could have kept up their pace from '86 for a couple more years, maybe turn heel in '87 & trade the belts with Strike Force. I think those 4 could have had the best WWF tag match of the 80's if they all were 100%. Imagine a healthy Bulldogs vs. The Powers of Pain in '88, bet it would blow that Rockers match out of the water. Ideally, maybe they take some time off at the end of the decade & come back in '90 & say Dynamite turns on Davey & hooks up with Slick or another heel mouth piece. He drops the Union Jack tights and puts some black tights on. You know he had that Punisher bastard heel run in his heart. Could have really done soooo much with more time healthy(as you can be while juicing & doing party drugs every day). Fast forward to '97, Dynamite returns to the WWF(still jacked & wrestling @ 150mph) and joins up with The Hart Foundation in the war against Steve Austin. Can you imagine Austin/Kid with 20 minutes on a ppv? Or a match with prime Foley to see who could kill eachother better? I seriously love the Bulldogs. BUT I think my affection for them is more based on their individual singles careers rather than the tag team, although I definitely like the tag matches a lot. I'm in the minority but I still hold up the Kid/Tiger Mask I match up as some of the best stuff of the 80's, or any decade. Also I love Davey Boy's entire career except the 2nd WCW run. Power & speed, I don't think many guys did it so well as him, except maybe Brock Lesnar. Both guys are in my top 10 favorites & could list great matches from them all day, but ill stay on topic & am looking for recs for tag matches.
  7. Because a rich person offered him a ton of money to run his own promotion. That turned out to be SWS. Tenryu got a bunch of people to jump from AJPW and NJPW. The promotion bombed, then split into WAR and some other promotion whose name I can't remember. WAR bombed as well as a stand alone promotion. Oh okay. I thought there was some kind of personal issue with Baba's wife or something I heard somewhere. Sorry for my ignorance. *6/8/89 my bad.
  8. Can someone tell me in semi detail why Tenryu left AJPW? I am doing my monthly watch of Tenryu/Jumbo 6/1/89(got to be in my top 10 matches of all time) & was JW.
  9. Didn't watch the tv before WM28 cuz of no cable so can't speak on that. WM27 actually had some great builds in my eyes. My favorite was the Punk/Orton("Randall Keith Orton" ha); or when he lured Orton out to his bus and beat him with a wrench. Good old school stuff. I hated Lawler-Cole because the feud ran 2 hours, throughout every Raw broadcast. Plus it was another not special Austin appearance(seriously should have kept him away after 2004 & brought him back in a big way like Rocky.) The Taker/H stuff was real good; apart from the random start of it. I liked the 3way interview with Taker, H & HBK where Shawn tried to Superkick Taker & he caught his leg, great live acting that only a few can do. Plus the match was my favorite of their 3. The Rock/Cena/Miz interaction was fun because Rock was so fresh again but I knew the match would suck & it did. Basically this Mania gets a bad wrap because the main event was an abortion(the worst in history. You can say Sid/Taker or Bundy/Hogan or whatever the consensus is but in 2011 main events are supposed to deliver, with the crowd(as before) & in ring. Also the Lawler/Cole match was awful. Basically you had legends in Lawler, Austin & Rock in 2 awful marquee matches on the biggest show in the world. BUT H/Taker delivered as the other 1/2 of the main event and Orton/Punk & Rey/Cody delivered as midcard matches. Hmm now that I looked up the card it also had that shit Snooki tag match & the 1 minute 8man tag. Maybe I'm wrong.
  10. How can Hogan defend the championship with a broken leg? I think the end result for the WWF would end up being the same due to Vince's business strategy. However, what I'm wondering is how much credibility Hogan would lose and what kind of push he would have if any when he heals from the injury. Well first off they fire & blackball Shiek. Then they have Hogan vignettes training like Rocky. & then they make a storyline about how Shiek was payed off by ____ heel & bam you got a program
  11. Why Mark is a heel? I just say it cuz it was reported to be in the works & I like the matchup. I loved H/Brock I myself I though it was ****+. The divryticulitis(?sp? My dad has is it bad & it is painful on the gut) psychology was great & I liked the ending of Lesnar popping up like Jason voorhees to take him out.
  12. Same here. I hate to wish ill upon all their paydays but I am doing just that. I love The Rock, & it's cool that in 2013 we actually have 2 guys in WWE that can be defined as draws(Rocky & brock) instead of just the WWE name. Now of course WM sells out, no matter the prices(which are getting truly disgustingly high) even without any card. I'm actually looking forward to Cena/Rock II & Brock/H II because I think all 4 guys are going to go all out to steaal the show(egos). Even though the Fourway to determine Taker's opponent was stupid, I am definitely looking forward to that match most of all @ Mania because just like the other 2/3's of the triple main event these two have giant egos & I say these two guys have the best track record of good Mania matches. The way we get to Mania is pretty weak, but the card is solid. Now does anyone really want Henry/Ryback over Henry/Jericho? If Henry/Jericho pops up that becomes my #1 most wanted match. I think Sheamus/Ryback is a better idea, first off to gauge who the fans prefer as a face more(like Bret/Lex in '94). But then the Shield lose out, but I'd still rather see them against Hell No for the tag belts
  13. Eh I guess you're fantasy re-booking but Cena/Rock II & Brock/Triple H II are set in stone after the last Raw barring some freak UFC-like injury during training. Also after SD Swagger/Del Rio is still a go. Also The Observer is reporting Jericho/Henry(really like that) & Barrett/Sheamus for the IC strap(never saw their Raw matches but heard good things, don't like perrenial World champs like Sheamus going after midcard titles though). So: WWE Title: The Rock© vs. John Cena II(how great would a Shield run in Triple powerbomb on The Rock scoring the win for Cena be. With Cena putting on the SWAT vest & being the leader of them. Will never happen but I'd like it. Monster heel Cena for a year leading to Cena/Taker @ Mania 30?) WHC: Alberto Del Rio© vs. Jack Swagger Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H(Hell in a Cell? Last Man Standing? Doubt it's just 1-on-1.) The Undertaker vs. CM Punk (I bet the crowd turns Punk back into a face.) Mark Henry vs. Chris Jericho Sheamus vs. Ryback (wasn't this hinted to @ a Raw?) The Shield vs. Randy Orton & Big Show(garbage match please) US Title: Cesaro vs. Miz
  14. Yeah. Totally reminds me of Triple H not thinking Angle was big enough to work with him(physically), & I think it was Jerry Brisco that said "Well who would win in a shoot?" Trips agreed. If watching the first 37 UFC shows on dvd has taught me anything it's that size means shot(remember that 6'8, 600lb guy, Yarborough or something that always got his ass handed to him?) Although I bet the house that Hogan/Tyson would have been THE biggest money match of all time, Hogan would have been insane to trust Tyson in a worked match at that turbulent time in Mike's life. I mean Tyson gets pissed about anything and 1 bare fished punch gives Hogan brain damage for life. Personally I would have loved to see it, even a tag match; Hogan & Tyson vs. Savage & Genius or something. Sorry to bump an ancient thread but I just found this idea so intriguing & these sheets so fun
  15. Don't know who that is so ill 2nd that match lol
  16. I don't know if these guys fit in the category as it was outlined by the OP but some current guys: Miz- he's been around for what 7, 8 years and still acts & wrestles like he did on his 1st day in the company. His WWE title feud with Lawler was cool because it was just so different plus I do like seeing "part timers" work, the matches were fun for what they were. His FCA match with Morrison was goodish too but only cuz I'm such a big Morrison mark. But the feud with Cena was awful & the Mania match was for my money, THE worst Mania main of all time. Atleast with Sid/Taker I was a big mark for both guys as a kid and it had a good ending. This guy seriously needs to become some big guys mouthpiece or just be the color guy for Superstars. I would like to see his match w/ Cesaro @ the Chamber '13 ppv though because I like Cesaro vs. Anybody. Matt Morgan- I seriously have watched a ton of this guys stuff & again he still looks like he just walked off Tough Enough. Even his BFG 09 match w/ Angle was poor, a match that should have been an easy bout to impress. All he had to do was throwdown some high impact offense & Angle would bump like a madman(Kurt always cranks it up @ BFG). I recently watched Genesis '13 and him & Joey Ryan looked like SHIT. Absolutely 0 chemistry and it looked like neither guy had ever been in a tag match. Just a bad match.

Whatever the point is business was way down in '95 partly because the big stars just bolted & didn't do the right thing. Also it was just a case of burn out to the general fanbase I'd say. And I highly doubt Rock, Taker & Brock are putting over Danielson, Sheamus & Punk next year.(I hope I'm wrong. In fact, Sheamus v. Rock sounds like a damn fine match to me). In fact, Next Gen v. Old Guard would be a sweet theme for WrestleMania 30. And please do Brock v. The Rock II @ SummerSlam '13 because I hope to be in attendance @ The Staples Center. It would make more sense to have in LA than in New Orleans IMO. Ideally for me they would bring back "Hollywood" Rock(as a heel) saying he owns the town etc... & "Asskicker" Brock as a babyface(I say the fans turn him face at Mania this year. Although he got boo'd out of MSG @ his last Mania).

Forgetting of course that Hogan was a red-hot heel at the time which the WcW fanbase were dying to see someone beat, that Piper was someone they bought into, and that they went batshit crazy when Piper did beat him, with the nWo showing cracks for virtually the first time. A PPV that earned 240,000 buys (considered an enormous success at the time) and grossed nearly $3 million. This "part-timers" shit needs cutting out, it really does. Pro wrestling always has and always will be about finding matches that people want to see and making them pay to see them. WrestleMania is where they put on the biggest matches, and if those biggest matches involve people that don't want to/can't work a full-time schedule all year (but can still go, without doubt), so be it. The last two 'Manias would have been far less memorable without Hunter and Rock's matches, and in truth many more without Taker. Yes, the future of the company is sacrificed by putting those older stars at the top of the card over their existing pack (with the exception of Cena), but WWE doesn't think about it, so neither should we. We should just enjoy the show and be grateful we're not still treated to endless Cena/Orton matches. WrestleMania with Rock/Cena, Brock/Hunter and hopefully Taker/Punk will be incredible, and as an aside, Cena finally proving he is (kayfabe) as good as one of the best ever and avenging his loss to The Rock - and regaining his belt - will be a phenomenal piece of pro wrestling drama, and anyone suggesting the main event should be anything other than a straight Rock/Cena one on one has their head up their backside. Well I guess your forgetting that 3 years later Starrcade '99 drew one of WCW's worst buyrate ever(can't confirm that but I have read it several times) when ALL the part time guys were gone and they had done 0 to establish Bret Hart as a credible World champion. Now of course WWE 2013 is in a MUCH better financial position than WCW 1996 and can survive with 1/4 of the buyrates that they get now, just on dvds, merch & Tv advertising but any big company can stumble. Now maybe a better comparison would be Wrestlemania 8 sold out the Hooiser Dome & drew a big buyrate with Hogan's 'Last Match' & a 40+ year old Flair vs. A 40+ year old Savage for the WWE title(Bret did get put over HUGE by Piper in the IC title match though. Great, great match & moment) and a few years later @ WrestleMania 11 they were in that tiny arena in Connecticut and drew a shit buyrate because Bret, Shawn & Nash were not properly(or at all honestly) put over in big shows by Hogan & Savage. I'm not saying 'WWE is dying'. In fact their in a damn good spot financially. I just think the Mania where all these guys are gone is going to come off real flat & draw less than 500k buys. As for Mania 29, it will mark 10 years since I've bought a live ppv(still got the Mania 19 vhs in my wrestling tape box in the parentals attic heh). 1st off don't have cable, 2ndly I just can't believe they cost what, $65 now? I will be searching Youtube and tons of WWE '13 matches that night to try and find the real matches.

Great review. I love how a theme in their matches are how well they know each others shit, to the point where down the home stretch when shit gets desperate, they bust out crazy random moves to throw each other off guard. I lost my shit on the piledriver, and the crowd audibly gasping was amazing. the Rana -> AA was one of the best finishes I've seen in a while. Yeah just watched the match on Youtube and it was fucking great. Cena's Batista-bomb was great(should be added to his arsenal; someone needs a straight Powerbomb as a finish, I think Henry should add one as his secondary finisher). And of course Punk's Paul Orndorff Piledriver was awesome(looked exactly like the one he hit on Hogan when he turned on him in '86), just folded him up perfectly. My 2 favorite moves in a perfectly done WWE Raw main event makes this your MOTY so far. I agree that this exact(maybe add in another 10 minutes of new moves, some more submission work & a crazy table spot) match should have been the WrestleMania 29 main event but what are you going to do? Have Punk retain clean against Rock @ the Rumble to really give him that rub. Then you could have still done Trips/Brock & done Rock/Taker to boost up that buyrate. I just think doing all these part timers in big/title matches @ Mania just screams of WCW(like running Piper-Hogan @ Starrcade in '96, 10 years after they were close to full timers). As it is now I DO want to see Trips/Brock II(that brawl sold me on it, also thought the 1st match was ****1/2), Rock/Cena II & the rumored Punk/Taker but as an overall picture how is Wrestlemania 31(?) Going to do with say, Cena/Cesaro, Bryan/Punk & Sheamus/Orton as main events(or something like that)? When Brock & Rock are gone, and Trips & Taker can't physically do it again. I guess there's still a possible "One Last Match" for Austin & HBK but don't count on it(wish HBK/Austin II would have gone down @ Mania 25 in Houston but it didn't).
  20. never seen the Morshima(not a big fan, watched plenty of him in NOAH) or the Mcguiness matches(the Anniversary show match is on ROH's Youtube stream, need to check it out). So I'm going with a WWE match: Danielson vs. Punk from Over the Limit 2012. Just a perfect match with a smart ending. Two true ROH-made guys fighting for the WWE title. Great stuff.

So let's talk Wrestlemania. Taker returned at a house show this weekend rocking the Lidell mohawk & looking fat & out of shape(probably can't workout much with the bad hip & shoulder). SO it looks like Punk/Taker singles match is happening; even if Taker moves/wrestles more like Kane this year. I would be cool with Taker wrestling at another 10 Manias if he has matches like the HBK & H series. He's just such a staple of the show like Hogan at WM 1-9, I'd say the 2nd most important performer in the shows history so it would suck for him to be absent. Plus he still has to do the big Cena/Taker match next year. Let's just admit it, Punk/Taker is *atleast* going to be a very good(***1/2+) match with a fun build. About Swagger/Del Rio. I watched the Chamber match from said ppv and really enjoyed the bout(always like that gimmick(count me as 1 that likes 'theme' ppvs). But everyone in that match played their roles perfectly; except Swagger. He just had 0 heat before/during this match. This is a guy I thought would return to Superstars or form a jobber tag team and now he all of the sudden is a world beater. And Henry was *right there* with a better gimmick & was actually over(ha someone called him "Stone Cold" Mark Henry, I concur). But I hope they just do a straight submission-based match without all this WCW-like overbooking that has marred the Punk/Rock matches(only saw the 1st one though), with Swagger destroying Del Rio's ankle & Del Rio attacking his arm to neutralize the Ankle lock & Doctorbomb. Del Rio plays his best Tito Santana(I wish he would throw the old flying forearm into his arsenal as tribute. Loved that move with Tito) & Swagger trying to channel Kurt. About the undercard, these matches are likely: Ryback vs. Sheamus Big Show vs. Miz EDIT: Also would like to see Shield(all 3) vs. Kane & Danielson for the tag titles: a throwback to the Demoliton vs. Hart Foundation title match of the same style. Shield does the Freebird thing with the belts. Cara/Rey is supposed to be off but I'd like it re-added. Orton vs. Henry seems like a good semi big match to add(loved the NOC '11 title bout) if they are serious about Henry, although I'd be cool with Henry/Booker T Unsanctioned street fight or something if they are going that way. Also Ziggler/Jericho is likely.
  22. Bout to watch the Takada/vader trilogy on Youtube from 93/94 since I've really liked the UWFI stuff have seen.(Plus prime WCW champion vader is one of my all-time favorites) What's the date on the Hash/Takada match? 2 for Hash/Zangiev, 2 for Hash/Tenryu 8/8/93
  23. Are you thinking of Hash vs Tenryu from NJPW 8/8/93? 1993 MOTY, maybe even a MOTDC. Going with Hash/Zangiev because its just different. I will look up that Tenryu '93 match though for sure
  24. Gotta go 3rd with Austin/Hart from Series '96 Davey Boy Smith. Goin with Smith/HBK from One Night Only.
  25. Ill go with Onita/Funk from 93 even though I don't recall anything about it. Just to move the thread along. Here's one with mixed emotions: Chris Benoit There's SO many(I first became a huge fan when I saw DDP/Benoit US title match @ Superbrawl '98 but that can't be it). 1 of my personal favorites is the Unforgiven '02 match in LA since seeing these two guys live was awesome(but its not even one of their Top 5 matches together). 1000's to pick from but his *BEST* match has got to be vs. Sasuke @ J-Cup '94.
