I was mad at the time about that, and I don't think they would have lost anything by doing the switch at the PPV instead and giving him three weeks. But it definitely didn't do anything close to killing his career, and it all worked out in the end because that was an awesome program and we ended up with Orton putting Mark Henry over. All's well.

The clear highlight was Alexa Bliss explaining to Otunga how the law works.

The Revival may be old school heels but they also have the most exciting matches on the card with state of the art wrestling. Roode is boring as shit in the ring. And I don't know guys, I thought the main event was an awesome spectacle. I am long past the point of caring about booking, so I just enjoyed this for the cool moment it was. It reminded me of McGregor knocking Aldo out in 7 seconds after like 18 months of hateful build. And my mother was over the moon, and frankly that's the most important thing.

I liked a lot about the women's match. Jobber pins are part and parcel of these matches, you just gotta roll with them. I liked all of the Nia Jax showcase spots. Alexa looked really good, a hundred million points for her nasty knee to the face cover on Alicia. I also really liked the finish, mainly because of Bayley. She was SO keen to get into it with Becky at the very beginning, but she got cut off by Charlotte. So now here at the end she finally gets her chance, but Becky is exhausted and it's 2 on 1, so Bayley is trying to be all nice about it. But Becky is exhausted and pissed off and gets all in her face to say "Don't you dare take it easy on me, let's go!" And they get it on and get tighter and tighter until Becky cracks her in the face and Bayley is like "Oh you wanna go, let's go!" and the brawl is on. It all ended too soon after that, but it was a cool moment. The tag match was super fun, Alphas looked great while they were in there, and the finish was fucking awesome. Cesaro/Sheamus and the Usos can fight forever. Too bad all the matches that I'm now interested in can't happen because of the brand split. Best part of the never ending men's match was Roman choosing the Spanish Announce Table by saying "Over here, I don't like these guys!"

Nia Jax isn't playing Vader. She's playing Mark Henry.

I wasn't there live, but yeah, best show ever you cynical bastards! If I only watched NXT Takeovers I would be a happy wrestling fan forever, and every new one I watch is my new favourite Takeover, until the next one rolls around. I waited until now to read this thread because I knew it would be filled with assholes analysing and critiquing and making perfectly valid complaints and I don't want to hear that noise because Takeovers are glorious rays of wrestling sunshine that we should bask in and enjoy without mundane distractions like...critical thought. There are no bad Takeovers. Just bad wrestling fans. Shinsuke being played to the ring by an army of violinists was a hundred times more badass than any entrance Hunter has ever dreamed of. I don't read the news so can someone tell me if Meltzer or whoever has mentioned anything about Mickie James coming in, or was it truly just a once off? She looked unreal. But Jesus, if this is all I get, I'll take it. I don't remember ever spending so much time giggling and squealing at a wrestling match, ever. In my wildest dreams people. I'm drawing up a list of more women for them to bring in for title matches on the Jimmy Redman Divas Transplant Fantasy Tour.

You will fucking LOVE this.

I'm more interested in how Mickie James works with Asuka in 2016 NXT than I have been interested in anything in a long time. This is like Step 1 of my wildest wrestling dream, 'Can I please magically teleport every Diva from pre-2015 into NXT?'

I like Miz winning, because it forces Bryan to rely on him to defend the title for SD. My best idea is to have Miz cheat to beat Sami at the PPV, then have Sami's quest for a rematch blocked by the brand split, forcing him to get Steph to trade him to SD. I feel like that makes more sense than having Sami win but move to SD anyway because reasons, after they have hammered home that Sami win takes the title to Raw. You know...I kind of don't want the cruisers on SD. SD is fine as it is.

I just can't believe I saw someone in this thread use the term "locker room talk" unironically.

PWO Pilot: Stacey and Elliott's Bogus Journey
Jimmy Redman replied to Jimmy Redman's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Thanks everyone for the feedback and kind words. We had so much fun doing it (we actually talked about the match for over an hour before we even started, and I don't think we repeated ourselves once when we pressed record...there was so much to say) so it's great that people enjoyed listening to it too. Yeah sorry about the confusion there. We were just trying to explain what our idea for the show was and where it came from, which was basically just us (and Matt) having a private conversation and going "Hey, watch this random awesome match!" every so often. Those were just examples of what we'd been showing to each other. My favourite thing is still that if you listen closely at about the half hour mark, you can hear my father in the background shouting at me "Hey Bobby, Beyonce is on the Country Music Awards!" -
OK I take it back, the girls are coming out now. Don't tease me like that.

When SD came on I was thinking to myself that they've had women main event Raw and now a PPV, but never Smackdown, so they should really put Becky vs Alexa on last. Thanks Double Double E for reading my mind.

Good Feuds/Storylines That Fell Off A Cliff

You can add Donald Trump "buying" Raw and bringing in the Guest Hosts in 2009. -

Nexus was great for the first week or so. Then took a sharp nosedive. -
OK so "completely unflushable" is now my favourite phrase I've ever heard to describe, well, anything ever really.

For the question of which year of Cena's compares to Bret's best, the answer is 2007.

It's funny the casual sexism that comes with that whole "laid out matches" talking point. When Cesaro, Sami and Neville were having great matches in NXT, nobody sat there saying "Well they get to sleep in their own beds and they're all planned out in advance anyway, these guys aren't that great." When Revival, Alpha and DIY are having great matches in NXT, nobody sits here saying "Well they get to sleep in their own beds and they're all planned out in advance anyway, these guys aren't that great." But when a bunch of women are having great matches in NXT, people are suddenly having to come up with reasons, explanations as to why this can possibly be so, and we end up with "Well they get to sleep in their own beds and they're all planned out in advance anyway, these girls aren't that great. Try having a great match on Raw with 90 seconds to work with no motivation or booking help, then we'll see who the worker is!" Sami Zayn has largely done shit on the main roster, because he hasn't been given a chance to do anything more, and yet nobody (except a few idiots) are saying that the main roster has "exposed him" as a bad worker. But when a girl can't work miracles in the same kind of death spot, with the same kind of 'main roster vs NXT' problems that everyone has to deal with, it's magically proof that they were never any good at all and all the credit goes to whoever was laying out their matches in NXT. Like, no shit their matches on Raw aren't as good as their matches on NXT. Fucking EVERYTHING is better in NXT!

I like how the Bryan/Miz angle is developing. When it began on Talking Smack Miz was basically right and Bryan was just being a douchebag to him (and it was even more hypocritical given Bryan's history of being picked on by authority figures). Miz wasn't really doing anything too egregious to warrant Bryan harrassing him like he was the first few weeks. He wasn't even cheating much. But now as things play out on telly you get Miz being a total fucking dick to Dolph in trying to keep and regain the IC Title - hiding behind Maryse, using the hairspray, the Spirit Squad, begging off matches - and Bryan is now less of a bully and more just trying to get Miz to play fair. And Bryan had a fair point today when he didn't pick Miz for Survivor Series and said it was because he wanted guys who would fight. And Miz doesn't really have an answer for that because he DOES duck fights (he did so just last week) and he DOES take the easy way out and there are many more guys on SD with more fight in him. So while he's being so smart and calculated and clever by acting the way he does, it has also come back to bite him in the ass because when something like this comes up, he realises that nobody has a shred of respect for him. And it's all of his own making. And there's nothing he can really do about it, because he's the Miz and the only way he can be successful is if he cheats his ass off. He wants success AND respect, but because of who he is, he can only have one or the other, not both.

Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling
Jimmy Redman replied to Luchaundead's topic in Pro Wrestling
Good point. Was that TV or one of their pre-taped PPVs? Both. Back in...I want to say 2010, they did an all-Knockouts episode of Impact. From memory they ran a title tournament on that show. When they began making those One Night Only PPVs, they made all Knockouts PPVs as well. -
So I revise my earlier fantasy booking. Sasha ending Charlotte's PPV Streak in Boston inside HIAC in the first ever women's PPV main event is perfectly fine with me.

Main event! Women! Feminism! Shatter the glass ceiling! Girl power! Spice up your life! Fight like a girl! Etc.

TNA did an all Knockouts special.
