7/1/83 –Coliseo Pachin Vicens - Ponce We’re a day away from the big NWA world title match between Harley Race and Carlos Colon, but we have action in Ponce tonight. Victor Jovica vs. Gypsy Rodrigues Our opening contest features Victor Jovica making one of his semi-regular appearances in Puerto Rico against recent arrival Gypsy Rodrigues. Although Gypsy had his moments, the match was Jovica’s all the way and he wins it with the sleeperhold. Winner: Victor Jovica Ray Apollon vs. Masaji Goto Ray Apollon, who is also making one of his semi-regular appearances, is taking on Japanese rookie Masaji Goto. Despite Goto’s youth and exuberance, it is Apollon’s experience that makes the difference and allows him to control the pace of the match. Apollon wins when Goto misses a charge into the corner and is stunned enough to be covered for the pin. Winner: Ray Apollon “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan vs. Barrabas The man called Hacksaw is making his debut tonight against the ever crafty Barrabas. Despite Barrabas’ best attempts, Duggan’s power was too much and Duggan gets the win in an impressive debut. Winner: “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan King Tonga vs. Scott Ferris King Tonga makes quick work of the debuting Ferris, not breaking too much of a sweat on the way to victory. Winner: King Tonga Buddy Landell vs. Angelo Rivera Landell is looking forward to his North American title rematch tomorrow. Maybe a bit too focused on that and not on his opponent. Landell almost was upset when Angelo hit a nice crossbody and almost got the pinfall. However, Landell refocused after that and subdued Rivera for the win. Winner: Buddy Landell Dick Slater vs. Joe Savoldi Dick Slater makes his return to Puerto Rico and has little trouble against young up and comer Joe Savoldi. Winner: Dick Slater Jay Youngblood vs. Terry Gibbs Jay Youngblood’s debut has been anticipated by the fans and he did not disappoint. His opponent is one half of the reigning Caribbean tag champions Terry Gibbs. Youngblood showed off his dynamic skills, and despite the best efforts of Terry Gibbs, he get the win with his flying tomahawk chop. Winner: Jay Youngblood Harley Race vs. El Gran Apollo The NWA World champion Harley Race takes on young and hungry opponent el Gran Apollo (one half of the North American tag champions). The match is an interesting contrast of styles, with Race trying to keep Apollo to the mat, while Apollo uses his quickness to try to go on the offensive. After about fifteen minutes of action, Apollo went for a body press but Race used the momentum to rollover and hold Apollo down for a pin. After the match Race delivered a few stomps to Apollo before leaving the ring. Winner: Harley Race Carlos Colon/Pedro Morales/Mil Mascaras vs. Kendo Nagasaki/ Medico #1/Medico #2 Hugo Savinovich has been trying to ensure that Carlos would not make it to the title match but has not been successful. Tonight three of Hugo’s charges team up to try to stop Carlos one day before the title match. However, Carlos is not alone as he is teaming up with Pedro Morales and Mil Mascaras. This is an exciting match with the wrestlers pairing off and action going back and forth for eighteen minutes. The end comes when all three men are battling in the ring and Mil Mascaras surprises Medico 2 with the flying burrito leading to the pin. Winner: Carlos Colon, Pedro Morales and Mil Mascaras Post-match, Los Medicos and Kendo jump Mil and Pedro and toss them put of the ring. All three then gang up on Carlos and try to take him out. Mil and Pedro make a quick save and Carlos avoids serious injury. As Hugo leads his charges away, the tecnicos celebrate in the ring.

Fair point. We need to work on the groupings then.

Would this work better? Portland - Vancouver JCP - Florida Memphis - ICW Southwest - WCCW AWA - WWA Central States- Mid South Georgia - Southeastern Stampede - Montreal WWF - Maple Leaf

Yea that's pretty much what KrisZ said. Wahoos Leg can have first pick over who he wants to keep from Portland but he also has to provide at least enough people from the Portland roster and his own to give everyone 1 extra roster member. Which really just means that Wahoos Leg needs to pick 18 people out of his roster and the Portland roster to put into the dispersal draft and he gets to keep the rest. So essentially he can take the top 4 Portland guys he wants right off the top and anyone else he wants from Portland he has to displace someone off his own roster to get. That's another way to go, but I don't know if having too many new people come in at the same time would mess up his laid out plans. Wahoo's Leg would be the one to know best in that regard.
-
There's 22 people on the Portland roster. If the idea we go with is a merge, then I'd suggest each territory get one wrestler after Wahoo's Leg makes an initial selection of who he wants to keep (maybe have the initial save pick and first round draft pick of Portland automatically go to Vancouver?). Anybody left over after after everybody else has received a wrestler can either stay in the merged territory or be dispersed according to how Wahoo's Leg decides.

Not a crazy idea at all, actually a very sensible idea.

Would like to request Giant Baba and Jumbo Tsuruta for Sept. 16-18.

Bassarab is Toronto's, he was drafted by them so he stays put.

That's a bummer, I was really looking forward to your take on Portland. No chance of you changing your mind? I'd recommend leaving Portland as is for now while the smoke clears. It's a little bit late to shift wrestlers around, but still early enough for the territory to start up. There is still the possibility of rainmakertv deciding he wants to take it over, or someone else who has been reading along like maybe the Bottomlessjack guy. That's why I recommend leaving Portland as is for now. If anyone decides to run Portland in the next week or two, they can always retroactively post July shows.

I think we're going a bit cart before the horse here with Portland.

It's still early enough where everyone is just getting started. I say we wait it out for now and see if Dylan wants to go ahead with Portland.

Houston Wrestling Results (NWA Classics Research)
El Boricua replied to KrisZ's topic in Megathread archive
So is the Harley vs. Andre match on the site 10/13/78 or 1/7/79? The 10/13/78 result listed here says it's 2 out of 3 falls to a double countout (same as the available match), while 1/7/79 says it's just a draw. -
It's coming, it's coming. Sorry for the delay, had some deadlines moved up at work last week which caused me to start later than I wanted in writing the shows (made the mistake of not writing anything until I received confirmation Race was coming in for the weekend). It's four house shows and two TV shows covering July 1-3 (WWC has both Saturday and Sunday TV).

Other than Race keeping the title, I would say the following have the credibility to become champ in the near future without too much prep: 1) Ric Flair 2) Nick Bockwinkel 3) Sgt. Slaughter
-
I agree that everyone has done an awesome job so far. I'm a bit behind in posting my cards from July 1 and 2. but I hope to be caught up by this weekend and get on the right schedule then. Think of it as it takes a while for news to come in from Puerto Rico.

The NWA has two vice president positions if I remember correctly.

Mr. Crockett has been gracious enough to contact me and clear up some of my doubts about the potential of closed circuit. I am in the process of reevaluating this information and deternining if it influences a change in my vote.

We admire and respect all three candidates and would like to propose that whichever two candidates do not obtain election be nominated two the two vice-presidency posts. Our decision was made after careful consideration. While we are very excited about the proposed closed circuit Thanksgiving show and of the potential impact it may have (we would like to show our support for this venture by offering to send a showcase match for the card), we would like to see the end results of this endeavor in order to validate that this will result in the benefits that have been mentioned.

Probably in a few 'years' once he's had a few more bloodbaths under his belt.
