I always loved the Piper feud he had.

In the past if a guy wont pick a partner then one is chosen for him. A WWE jobber could have had a big push for this match.

Like I said, it was never the plan. Maybe Jannetty would have won the title at Mania after failing at the Rumble, but since he got fired, Tatanka was just a replacement who wasn't supposed to win the title. You should listen to Bruce's podcast about Michaels in 92/93. I saw a podcast about 90s WWF ppv with Bruce but the interviewer was such a asshole kept butting in calling bullshit when something was explained. Bruce deserved more respect than that.

This is what bugs me about the network. When I get round to watching Mania 2001 as soon as I get to the battle royale I have to pause it load Dailymotion up watch the battle royal there and then skip back to the network when done. Its one WWE song I wish wasent edited.

Austin said on the podcast that was embarrassing and I do agree with him. Really dumbs wrestling down having a child win a belt. They should have had a Wrestler win it with Braun.

A title shot at Summerslam?

It was never the plan if you believe Bruce Prichard. The original plan for Mania was Micheals vs Jannetty, but Jannetty was fired just after the Rumble. No I mean when Tatanka got 2 victories over Michaels and they went for Tatanka/Michaels at Mania. The general thought was Shawn been the champ since October so hes dropping the belt for Tatanka to get a good push with a singles title. Im sure HBK/Jannetty would have been a great match for Wrestlemania but why do the match at the Rumble? If that was the plan save it for Mania.

In your opinion, why did Bryan get few votes in 2015 among his peers, in comparison to Angle and Benoit? In my opinion, it's similar to people who herald HBK and Bret as the best of all time. They are legends in their own right, and I think many people inside their business look up to Angle, Michaels or Hart more than they do look up to Styles or Bryan, sometimes because they were closer to them, or were inspired by them. For me as much as I like Shawn & Bret they will never be as good as Hogan. The guy is a god and loved by many fans especially all those crazy Canadians back in 2002.

I don't think Taker has ever beaten Jericho in a one on one match. As far as I can remember when Jericho teamed with Show must have been a smackdown when Y2J and Taker had their first ever singles match.

Because it's two totally different things. Goldy's streak came in by beating JTTS every week on Nitro. It was a steady, conscious effort (past the faux-pas with McMichael at first) and was vital to Goldy's character. Sure, after a while he began to beat more names, but he was built as a squash-worker basically. Asuka's streak was that no-one could beat her in NXT, no challenger could take her and then no one on the main roster could take her down either. But it was not about squashing people, matches were always competitive. And it was only a part of her character, but not the entire character. Asuka was much more than her streak. For starters, she was a hell of a worker. And to deny she was over is, well, being in denial. She was over as fuck at Mania. I'd argue that Charlotte coming off her cold SD stint was the one was "wasn't that over", but she's such a great performer that it doesn't matter (add in the fabulous megastar intro she got too). Anyway the point is that of course it couldn't be the same as Goldy's streak. As far as Tatanka & Borga, the old 90's WWF fan in me is smiling, but honestly, this was a totally different era (so was Nitro, but it's still much closer in form to the current product). I don't remember when Tatanka being undeafeted began to really be a thing as part of his push, I do think it was important, although much more circumstancial. It's not like he was doing much after not getting the IC title from Michaels. Yes, Borga beating him seemed big at the time but really, when you look back at it, it was an angle to put Borga (and Yoko) over, Tatanka went nowhere after that point… Borga the Nazi didn't exactly set the world on fire at Survivor Series either after ending the streak. I doubt Asuka will suffer the same fate as Tatanka did, and Charlotte on the other hand looks like a big star again, which puts her on the way to a big match with Rousey, so really you can argue than yes, Asuka's streak was much more efficient. For me I felt Michaels refusing to drop the IC belt to Tatanka at Mania damaged his career. Kevin Nash mentioned something on a shoot interview about it.

Pulling 33 million viewers is something of a feat that should been mentioned. I dont think any other match has pulled that in terms of viewership.

I was expecting Asuka to challenge for the Raw Womens title when she won the Rumble. Raw always has been made out to be the bigger show and if Nia was squashing everyone in her path and decimated Bliss at the Rumble show making her look unbeatable then Asuka comes in I think would have been a better choice.

Would a screwjob have been better? No, but a pinfall would have. The time to do the countout or DQ is on TV with someone like Alexa or Carmela. My point was that they still had more fuel left in that tank before they emptied it. Looking back now it just seems odd to have Asuka lose her streak and then two days later Charlotte drops the title. For me I feel they had more mileage on a undefeated Womens WWE Champion. But being Wrestlemania im not sure how they would preserve the streak if Asuka doesnt win but stays undefeated without a DQ or Countout.

Jericho & Angle just got announced for the Rumble.

I remember in 96 Taker tagged with Bret and he wrestled Davey on the actual Tournament. As for the Tribute shows I recall he had a match with Morrison.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

How does WWE 2001 hold off now? When I went to relieve the Attitude era days I went from 98 - end of 2000 but felt I really should have started from the Hogan era so I went back and rewatched 84 - 1998 but then felt I had already watched the 98 - 00 stuff a while ago so just picked and chose Raws to watch that Austin was in. Watched the first Raw & Smackdown where Austin terrorised Stephanie which is great to watch and I know that Austin wins the Rumble loses to Hunter then beats Rock for the belt and goes on a heel run with the Two Man Power trip, then a invasion angle that ends at Survivor Series then Flair comes in the next night and Jericho ends the year as a double champ. But aside from that how was the year in general? Better or worse than 2002? -
So is Reigns winning the Title in Saudi Arabia? Having Lashley come in as a legit MMA fighter who would realistically be the only one capable of dethroning Lesnar with him being a UFC star would be a good choice. Alough he's only just debuted so can't see him winning the belt so soon.
-
An Attitude Era star. The result will mean nothing in the bigger picture, so just enjoy the ride. That would pretty much mean Triple H or Undertaker.

I dunno he had alot of enjoyable matches in WCW when he battled Raven, Hogan, DDP. Yeah his initial WWE run sucked because WWE wouldn't do squash matches like he had in WCW. There was a big reaction when he came in but I just felt 20 minute matches was pushing it.
-
im ok with him winning I really don't get wrestling fans, I mean how long have they been claiming about Roman saying he's supposedly forced down their throats and they ve hated the way how he's been book but this morning on various well known forums all I've seen is fans bitching and whining about Lesnar winning at Mania. I mean if Reigns in 2017/2018 had been immensly popular like say Rock style there is no way Vince would have had Lesnar go over and I don't think they would have done those pastings on Raw either. I felt they were done as sympathy to get the fans to cheer Roman. Kinda reminds me of a few years ago, if fans had been on the Batista bandwagon would Bryan have been added to that years Mania Main Event?
-
If any fans are pissed off about Lesnar winning again just do what I did. Go on the Network and watch Survivor Series where Goldberg slaughters Lesnar in 2 minutes. Im sure you ll feel alot better cos I did.
-
Fantastic Iron Man between Rude/Steamboat alough I feel 30 mins wasent long enough. 1 Hour would have been better. Saying that what do people feel about the Rhodes/Rude Iron man?

Whos the most likliest person to win this Rumble?
