The grand and pathetic journey of the Undertaker at WrestleMania
MoS replied to El-P's topic in Pro Wrestling
Okay, so if your issue with Orton is that he executed these face moves boringly and they didn't enhance the match, I can see that. I like the match more than you, but yeah, Orton is really bland in general, and he seems to be unable to show any kind of urgency in his matches. Like the exact opposite of people like Steve Austin and Riki Choshu, where anything they did seemed like the eye of the storm. Also, if you have these reviews written out, why are we not getting them more quickly?- 206 replies

Question for historians here - (Really wish @mookeighana still posted here): how much trusth is there to the claim, made especially by Bruno, that Hogan did not draw well when he would headline in the same city month after month for subsequent shows, and therefore he had to be booked as a special attraction appearing only 2-3 times a year? One of Bruno's biggest criticisms of Hogan was that attendance for shows that Bruno would headline would go up in the 2nd match, and even more in the 3rd match in the 3rd month, while with Hogan the trend was the exact opposite. I was wondering if there was any truth to this claim

Austin Aries: The Adventures of an Arrogant Asshole

We really need a "Austin Aries is a dumbfuck" thread

Miz was decent....in 2016. He has been nothing but brutally bad the last year or so. I was going to make a joke about how my date went so much better than the end result of the PPV, but that's an absurdly low bar to clear

I don't get it, you would have rather Roman squash Cesaro instead? How would that have legitimised him as a top-level challenger? I had forgotten how terrible Edge's spear was
-
Was it? We know the winner is jobbing to Roman. I would rather he gets his moment when he actually wins the big one
-
Love how Bryan sells his knee. Roman v. Bryan will be a banger, they have always had great chemistry
-
God I had forgotten how much Corbin sucks

This is the first time I am watching anything WWE in months - only for a while, your boi has a date lined up tonight - is it me or have they somehow introduced MORE annoying and groan-inducing camera angle?
-
Daniel Bryan has been having consistently good to great matches for 20 years now. How many non-Luchadores can claim that, forget about US workers?
-
I like Roman's character but have come to despise all the talking that happens in his matches. I get it: you're the head of the table

The grand and pathetic journey of the Undertaker at WrestleMania
MoS replied to El-P's topic in Pro Wrestling
Wait, weren't you just arguing that it is unfair to shoehorn faces and heels into acting in a particular way, and that they should have the freedom to work in whatever way they wish? FWIW, many heels do the corner punching spot; fans chant along cuz fans like chanting- 206 replies

No offense but I'm honestly not sure what you're saying

That's not irony at all

Wasn't the HitC so boring for the live audience that it famously killed the town for subsequent shows?

The grand and pathetic journey of the Undertaker at WrestleMania
MoS replied to El-P's topic in Pro Wrestling
They would acknowledge the streak here and there, but the first time it was a focal point of his match was the Randy Orton match at WM 21. Which incidentally also kickstarted his mini-streak of great matches at WM (I know a lot of people are down on the Henry casket match, but I thought that was a strong match with a Taker tope for the ages)- 206 replies

Big guys with muscle are not necessarily strong, and strength and size are different. Matt Jackson's gimmick however is not that he is really strong; nothing else in his working style lends itself to that. It's what makes him doing Northern lights suplexes so jarring. Given that no one includes that in his highlights package, it's just a vanity spot, like when HBK would go toe to toe with much bigger guys for no reason. Plus, his suplex is shitty. I mean, most of his offence is sloppily executed, but like Page's moonsault, his suplex is just bad.

Young Rock: A New NBC Sitcom About the Life of Dwayne Johnson
MoS replied to C.S.'s topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't disagree, but, there are some instances. For instance, Meryl Streep spoke about it on the stage at an awards' show. Also, this wouldn't be familiar to most people here, but Rihanna recently spoke in favour of the farmers' protests ongoing in India, earning her the ire of the Indian government and it's vast IT cell. She, hilariously, had a summons order in a district court in New Delhi. Of course, raising voices about foreign countries' protests is far easier and more convenient than doing so for your own country. But it does make Rock's vapidness stand out even more. -

I am not saying he should do any different, and I don't think Charles is saying that either. But I think it's funny that it makes Dwayne Johnson in general - not just in this show and even just in movies - feel bland, inauthentic, and far less charismatic than the gimmick he used to play which first made him a famous star -

Remember when Hogan appeared on...Leno, was it, teasing a Presidential run, and his response to every single question was "Right now, I am right in the middle." -

Maybe it's worse when you follow him on social media and are inundated by so much of "chasing your dream" and politically correct persona. I mean, it's the motherfucking Rock. Dude is probably the single most charismatic wrestler to have ever lived. Acting like a generic Instagram influencer seems so underwhelming and both funny and sad. -

MoS replied to C.S.'s topic in Pro Wrestling
This in particular is so true and perhaps why it's so aggravating. The entire reason for his metamorphosis from Rocky Maivia to The Rock was that the former was too bland, and just not authentic. It feels strange to say this, but Dwayne Johnson talking about CHASING YOUR DREAMS and Working Hard feels faker and more inauthentic than The Rock insulting someone by saying he gets more pie in a night than they do in a lifetime, and how Triple H should check himself into the Smackdown Hotel. He genuinely seemed more real doing fake wrestling bullshit than he did when he endorsed Biden/Harris, where he OF COURSE started by saying he has voted both Democratic and Republican in the past, because God forbid he ever take an actual stand -

As an Indian, one of my absolute favourite Gordon Ramsay lines is when he once told someone that their steak was "so undercooked, people in India are still worshipping it." Just killed me. Yeah I've had this issue with him for a while. Everything is about how he is a beast, yet he is also a role model who is inspirational and #DoTheWork and #NoPainNoGain and it's just annoying. It's like life has come full circle and The Rock has once again become Rocky Maivia
