  1. Tony Khan doing his best Memphis Vince impression was great
  2. Charlotte would be another interesting case whenever she becomes eligible. She has all the kayfabe accomplishments, was pushed the strongest out of the big 4, and Meltzer has never been as harsh on her as he could be. But she has never tangibly popped numbers the way Sasha does regularly on Smackdown, she was the distant 3rd wheel in the WM main event, and she never felt like the company ace the way Becky did when she was the champ. BTW, do we know when she is expected to return? She's been gone for what, 6 months now?
  3. Also, on one of the latest WOR, Meltzer and Laprade put over Ronda really strong (something I completely agree with), and they basically implied that Ronda was the only star and becky got over cuz she waas along for the ride, and the only reason she was there was because "Nia Jax broke her nose." I would actually like to publicly apologise to @rovert here. I argued with him publicly and very nastily about how Becky would be treated in the HoF discussions, and I definitely think I miscalculated here. II think Meltzer is being really unfair to Becky in this regard. I don't want to take anything away from Ronda who is absolutely a big superstar, but this is so dismissive of Becky's appeal and her connection with the fans, and I didn't really think he would imply this. Maybe it is me misunderstanding Meltzer and I am getting it wrong. However, in my opinion, it most definitely felt very dismissive of Becky, in a way which felt disrespectful of her and her accomplishments.
  4. Fitting, cuz you need to have really thick skin to be able to tolerate the dad
  5. I have been a Becky stan/simp forever, but wtf is that name lol
  6. Honestly don't see an argument for Shawn being better than Mark Henry in the late-2000s to be honest, but that is neither here nor there. Shawn might have had higher highs in that period, but he never had a consistent week-to-week run that Henry had in, say, early 2006. And there were plenty of days when he was really bad. This is despite him getting the benefit of all the bells and whistles in the world in his feud with Vince. Taue really should be in the Hall of Fame. The way I see it, even if you consider him the 4th best wrestler of the 4 Pillars, the 4th best guy of most successful national promotions is in. Whether it is 80s WWF, 90s WWF, hell, even WCW.
  7. That was legitimately hilarious.
  8. That 0.42 demo rating is actually really cool. One can only hope that they were intrigued by the Impact angle, and not completely underwhelmed like I was
  9. Would you say Hase is more known than Rikidozan in the present day, given Hase actually served as a government minister in relatively recent times? Also, this is apropos of nothing - and I know cricket is just a nerd sport for most - but I know you are from New Zealand, and the Kiwi fan and cricket fan in me wants to say that I hope Brendan McCullum and Kane Williamson are celebrated like national heroes in New Zealand, cuz they damn well deserve that. Oooh and Dan Vettori too.
  10. Yeah but it should not be AEW's job to rehabilitate Impact. This feels so underwhelming to me. I will give it a chance but I dunno, this was not something that thrilled me. And yeah, Mox could have very easily pinned Omega and then beat him up. Or even got himself disqualified so he retained his title. This made him look like a stupid babyface, as @Dav'oh said, and it is my least favourite trope in modern wrestling. I know covid has destroyed all plans, but if they had to do an interpromotional angle, surely New Japan is 10000 times better than Impact, which will, fairly or unfairly, always have the stench of TNA attached to it?
  11. Omega is taking so many crazy bumps on his head, he has to be winning. Especially because commentators keep giving Mox an out by saying he had the match won "but for..."
  12. I actually had forgotten. Googled him. I stand corrected. Man, what the fuck was the point of that Shida interview? It made her look like a complete chickenshit heel. That was so unfair to Shida, who has been such a good world champion. Is Omega still booking the women's division? Cuz it makes sense that he would book the big stars to be dorks, given he himself is the dork of dorks
  13. EH, am I the only one to not feel too excited about this? Like fine, Sting is on TNT again, but, like, he is 60 years old and lost every match he had in his WWE run. Maybe all the old classic PWO threads here about Sting's worth as a hall of famer is making me feel this is an unnecessary over-investment. Now, if they had got Luger, that would be interesting
  14. Huh. You learn something new everyday. 2003-05 was the peak of WWE pushing big tall roided guys, so I am not surprised he was not considered a must-get.
  15. I love Shida but Britt is basically the only real star in the women's division. That belt needs her and I hope she gets it soon
  16. I am no one to tell someone they are wrong for their opinion about a wrestler, but Kazarian has been a high midcarder for basically all his life, and was the inaugural AEW tag champ. Comparing him to someone like Gillberg is quite insulting and unfair imo. Unless you think anyone who never worked in WWE is an opening card guy. Match was so-so but I lOVED the throwback to MJF throwing the towel for Cody. I am intrigued at how they develop this slow-burning angle
  17. Completely agreed. Tbh I think they have overpushed Matt Hardy; he should not have beat Sammy twice in a row either. Unless this leads to Page quickly and definitively beating him in the coming few weeks, it's another Matt Hardy booking I think is wrong. I really love how they have followed up on Cassidy becoming a legit draw by putting him over strong and giving him important wins. If this was WWE of the last 10 years he would have been putting over someone on Main Event.
  18. I like how they are continuing multiple feuds in this battle royal. A true tribute to Pat Patterson
  19. Yeah, you are right about HHH and Steph trying to do that. The Observer reported that and Dave also said that Pat recognised what was happening and decided to resign. But he used to be backstage frequently until very recently, so I am sure Vince made sure he was always welcome and the young wrestlers must have loved picking his brain on everything related to wrestling.
  20. And then doubling down and insulting the people who ask them to do research. He was Terry Garvin's boss so you can attribute some kind of vicarious liability to him, since he either didn't realize what Garvin was doing or didn't try to stop him. But this was a particularly shitty time in a shitty business and I don't blame the only openly gay person for not wanting to step on any toes. His booking of the Royal Rumbles used to be excellent. None of the modern Rumbles have been half as good, despite having much more talented wrestlers.
  21. Team Mox here. Hope he retains. That promo he cut last week was brilliant and made me feel it's too early for him to lose. So hyped for this show.
  22. Dunno if it was a Triple H call or a Vince McMahon call, but Rhea absolutely should have beaten Charlotte, and what they did to Rhea this year should be a crime against humanity.
  23. Dave's been using a pizza place analogy to argue that wrestling is in better shape than it has been in 20 years, and I get what he means but now I have seen about 50 tweets comparing wrestling to some pizza place and it has made me almost hate pizza, something I genuinely considered an impossible task
