Bumping this due to the death of Buddy, it's a great listen if anybody hasn't heard it.

Juventud Guerrera doesn't get enough love. At his peak just as good as Rey Jr. Tapes of him in AAA in his youth really highlight the talent he had.

Whole bunch of new Rock n Wrestling episodes are up. Puts my fears to rest that they were just going to upload one and leave it at that.

I remember really liking the Souled Out 98 match with Bret. Thought it was Flair's best since the Savage match at GAB 95. Agree that there wasn't much essential stuff between those two matches though. Beat to the punch here. I consider it a great match and undeniably Flair's last great WCW match. A nice build built on pride and dominance too, which would be lovely if you were able to forget about the context of the time period and how much of a ballsup it was for Bret to be used that way at that time.

That was basically this:

Loss, ban this guy please.

I hope not. I expect the upcoming Seth / Brock match to end with a screwy finish with Seth coming up on top, resulting in a Summerslam rematch between the two which I can picture being inside the cell. I think there is money booking today's Brock Lesnar in that match and who better against than the chicken shit heel who "stole" his belt and then screwed him. Best to boot: you know the match would deliver.

I was on a night out last night and a friend text me the sad news. It actually put a damper on my night. Dusty was one of the all time greats, easily one of my top 3 promo men of all time. Huge loss to wrestling.

Lots of these answers are leaving me scratching my head, could some of you guys explain why you think they were specifically elevated by the loss? Without calling anybody out, there are plenty above which have been victim to revisionist history by the WWE for what the moment meant, or are frankly no different from 90% of other losses out there. Anyway, Jerry Lynn comes to mind at Living Dangerously 1999. Heyman did a great job with Lynn that night. After a great 1998, Lynn goes up against company star RVD here. The two has been having excellent matches on the road which are on many comps but this was their first major showing. The Hardcore Heaven rematch match was highly regarded at the time, but IMO this one was better. The set up is: fans REALLY thought Lynn had a shot at winning DUE TO HIS ELEVATION THROUGH LOSS at Living Dangerously. Lynn pushed RVD to the limit, the time limit came and the ref wanted to reward Lynn the TV championship. Lynn demanded 5 more minutes and he was given them: then RVD picked up the win. Lynn came out of that looking like a champion and declared himself "The New fucking show".

That and the Survivor Series 96 match. Both times Austin loses, but because he was so much lower than Bret going in, hanging with him til the end moved him up. Something subtle Austin did after the SS match was not taking his eyes off Bret walking back up the ramp. It gave the impression to the viewer that: 1. Austin felt cheated by the quick roll up out of nowhere not being able to let go of his submission. 2. This matter was not over: Austin belonged at the top of the card and he was coming back.

Not to mention Bret himself has stated by the mid late 90's he felt his body slowing down.

Early 1991 I believe Jerry.

Possibly as Mortis, but the lisp made it pretty hard to take him seriously. I'd use Mike Tyson as the argument point here that you can overlook a silly voice if your work speaks for itself.

I didn't say it was a problem. I said it becomes a bit one dimensional. It's subjective to what you like, and offered an example to what I preferred in similar situations.
-
Strictly in ring, Bret pips it for me. Cena has a fantastic body of work, if not a little one dimensional with the comeback elements. Bret's performance were more varied. Bret / Diesel and Cena / Brock 2012 would be a good example of this, both excellent matches but look at the endings. Bret was near defeat and he played sitting duck to sneak in a small package showing intelligence and vulnerability. He didn't pop straight up, in fact he got the shit kicked out of him after the match. Whereas Cena made a powerful comeback out of nowhere and then cut a long post match promo.

What did you find objectionable about that line CS?

Best way to retire Vince McMahon

Vince in the middle of the ring. Admits to sexually assaulting Nails. Drops mic. Leaves. -
Spot on. I use this to my advantage sometimes as there are certain posters on the internet who if I see them bad mouth something new in their usual bitter OTT manner, chances are there is going to be something of actual value to be found.

Your Wrestling Pet Perfections/ Utter Love
Sidebottom replied to Johnny Sorrow's topic in Pro Wrestling
Something I miss about going to independent shows is the VHS table at intermission. I loved that. Christ I spent some money back in those days. I think I appreciated wrestling more back then. I've written about it here before, but with having a time consuming career, a time consuming ( ;-) ) family AND so much wrestling available all over the place, it doesn't get the attention it got from me in my 20's where I'd come home with a Dynamite Kid comp, AJPW show and some ECW events. Everything got my FULL attention and I was far less critical. -
When was the last time they even produced a Roundtable? It feels like a few years have passed - I loved those shows. It's cheap content to produce also, and you can tape multiple episodes in a single day.

If they were smart they'd create a premium tier where they charge you 5 or 6 extra bucks for regular old territory TV, MSG shows and Coliseum video releases. They have enough content to milk that cow for decades if they want. And if you don't care, you can keep watching your PPV's, Stern Show, etc. for 9.99. I'd say that would be far from smart for them. So much of their marketing was the whole 9.99 thing (without telling people what they are fully getting for their money - quite wrongly to my above point). The last thing they want to be doing is introducing tiers (i.e. confusion) into the market place. They would put themselves in a position where if they were smart enough to start plugging archive footage, they would then have to bang on about a tier payment system. It would cause more problems than it's worth.

What was Andre's contract situation with the WWF from 1989 onwards?
-
Not to mention they have the power via television to condition people to seek out older footage. It's the same basic principle of how they link in a HOF induction with a DVD. When Bret made an appearance on Raw the other week the commentary started referencing some of his classic matches: it baffles me they didn't mention the fact that fans can watch them all on the network - never mind the possibility of a quick 15 second video package they could have run later.

To the Baba point, it's worth noting that when Ted got injured on his last 90s tour 5 dates in, Baba paid for his hospital expenses as well as all of the dates he couldn't work. Ted was well respected.
