  1. It's a little early to tell, but I trend towards that second one. Although, part of his problem is that I'm not exactly sure of his strengths - he's not big and impressive like Fale, his gimmick isn't as cool as Evil was for a time.
  2. Yeah, and both of them can be right at once. Bret really might have been fired up and ready to take on the world; but Eric is saying that that wasn't evident *to Eric*. He felt Bret was acting in away that indicated he didn't care. Bret had also worked for the same person for 13 years straight at that point; it's highly possible he misread the situation and didn't figure out how to present himself in that situation. (To be fair, there's also the aspect of who gives a shit how Bret came off to Eric, he was the other company's world champ who hadn't lost, you have to find a better way to use him).
  3. Dave has said that the ability to "start at beginning" if you're jumping into a PPV late won't be available initially. My guess is that the interface isn't going to be great.
  4. I think MLW is only available live on there (via the Fubo Sports Network, I think). New Japan's deal appears to be different, with them having a content archive.
  5. This seems like kind of a lame TV deal, basically MLW-level stuff where they're just content on one of the many free apps that need something to fill time.
  6. It's possible he's found a firm to take this for a cut of the winnings, which is fairly common in the plaintiff bar. He's claiming pretty big numbers in damages, so his attorney may just be putting in some work on the off chance of a large settlement. The GoFundMe goals seem reasonable to me. I dealt with a very small-time, bullshit intellectual property case a few years ago and it cost me and my business partners a few grand once we were done. A case like this is significantly more complex and time consuming.
  7. I'm definitely going to watch some tonight, on a Zoom call with friends I'd normally hit an indie show with. Don't know how much stamina I'll have for watching much more tomorrow, but it is a very interesting and cool idea on the whole. Super intrigued for Homicide vs. Erick Redbeard.
  8. The whole value proposition is different, in the sense that, if I want to watch the Saved by the Bell reboot, I have to subscribe to Peacock, and I guess I'd watch some WWE Network if I'm getting it for free.
  9. The rumor is that he's got an offer from ROH but is looking for others. This is sort of where ROH is right now - the spot for people with nowhere else to go. I'm not even sure if it works as a door to New Japan anymore, although I guess its still one place to go that keeps the door open.
  10. Striker is insufferable in this role. Never thought I'd long for Josh Matthews, but here we are.
  11. He may now be more famous as the other guy from the Joey Janela roof bump.
  12. I actually think they'll be okay, assuming they limit capacity to roughly what the NFL teams have. There's just no evidence of significant outbreaks from outdoor events. I wouldn't test a full capacity, non-distanced show, but I don't think it's nuts to put 15-20,000 in an outdoor stadium that seats 60-70,000. (The bigger risks for attendees are the travel to get to Tampa, and potentially any indoor indy shows that happen in the area.)
  13. Yeah, maybe 10-15 years ago I'd have been interested to see Raven or Shane Douglas do it (Shane did in XPW for a hot minute), but not today. Most of the guys I'd have picked a couple of years ago get to do so now in AEW.
  14. Tommy Dreamer also became a main eventer based mainly on losses, although he won plenty too. The examples of Austin and Bryan are interesting because while they both won a lot (I think we all agree that's important for a babyface in almost all circumstances if they want to be pushed as a top guy), they didn't have "winning streaks" as a gimmick. Sometimes I think that's more effective if you're trying to let the babyface maintain a certain underdog status.
  15. Thanks! Didn't realize she didn't live with him at all. I guess I have always just imagined Ric Flair being the weirdest Thanksgiving guest, coming to dinner with full Flair energy, whooing about stuffing and hitting on somebody's Mom, and I was hoping for a story to confirm my errant daydream.
  16. The live stuff from Starrcast I found generally underwhelmed - maybe it's the setting, but it just didn't always seem conducive to a deep conversation unless someone was very open. Also, I don't need a full recap of Ask Megan Anything (I really do not care about being married to Conrad), but would be interested in some highlights regarding Ric Flair as a dad. That just seems like the craziest experience.
  17. I guess we're still waiting? Is the ECW pod that Meanie and Gertner did for AFS any good?
  18. That always strikes me on rewatch as one of the greatest crowds to ever be a part of. Just the energy in that building radiates off the screen.
  19. Cody - Dustin from Double or Nothing Gargano - Almas from NXT Takeover Philly American Dragon - Low Ki - Chris Daniels from the first ROH Show Low Ki - Xavier Ladder Match Bryan - Kingston Wrestlemania 35 (with honorable mention to Okada-White and ZSJ/Suzuki-Tana/Ospreay - NY Mania Weekend was crazy) Also, I'm not sure one single match ranks, but I was at All In and I'm not sure I'll ever top that as a live wrestling experience.

  21. I would wager that's the biggest point of the NDA - if investors had an inkling of the golden parachute Bischoff got, they'd be suing Vince for wasting company money by firing him two months in. The one thing that's weird to me is firing Bischoff so quickly into the Fox run. He seemed like a convenient scapegoat, and it's not like the ratings went up - why not use him as a scapegoat for a couple of more months? (Could be it was something contractual that would have kicked in, could be Vince has no patience.) But a lot of the rest of the stuff comes together - Bruce is trying to stump for his friend, Vince probably wouldn't have gone with it but hears Eric is talking to AEW and wants to keep him away, and he needs a headline because of the XFL stuff. Maybe he even thinks it'll be fun to have Eric around as a sparring partner in the way Heyman may be for him, and he got disappointed to find Eric didn't have his heart in it.
  22. Hearing Dalton Castle may now be a free agent, which would make his treatment over the last year make a lot more sense.

    AEW Dark Megathread

Isn't it "MexiKings"? I feel like Fenix has referred to himself as that.
  24. This is one point I always push back on - Nash was wildly over at the end of 1998. He had been hot all year, WCW totally blew it by not doing him vs. Hogan when the fans were losing their minds whenever they touched, and he was a big enough star for his spot. The mistake was (1) turning Nash in beating Goldberg was a mess, for the reasons you lay out, but moreso (2) the Fingerpoke reset the entire prior year in a totally illogical way. (The Fingerpoke is overrated in its effect on killing WCW but it fucking blew.)
  25. Ha, I missed a page of posts. Buck Sexton. Great wrestling name.
