I don't like to have everything completely planned out. I mean, sure I have a general idea of what's gonna go down and some key angles and storylines I hope will take off, but I've found keeping plans open usually leads to some added creativity. I didn't plan on Terry Funk being a focal point of my thing, but he became available so I worked him into my plans. I hadn't intended on keeping the Bulldogs together as a team, but they've filled a niche in my tag division so I've put their singles pushes on the back-burner. Initially, I booked Dino Bravo working a mobster gimmick in preliminary tags, but organically, I have moved him up the card into a role as a babyface title contender, which sets him up for a big push down the line. Let it play out and see where it goes!

NWA World Light Heavyweight Title (vacant): Dynamite Kid vs. The Cobra
-
This is just incredible. The Fink introduces Mean Gene for a special surprise achievement award. Gene brings out Vince and his Stooges. The British Bulldogs come out with a HUGE plaque, I mean it literally takes both of the Bulldogs to even carry the thing to the ring. I really hope it's hanging somewhere in Titan Tower. So the surprise is revealed to be Vince McMahon receiving an award for the success of WrestleMania. Vince gives a heartfelt speech about his Dad and leaves the ring with his Stooges as the Bulldogs looked stumped as to what to do with the plaque.

Yes, Ted & JYD are coming up on 8/25. Dory Jr. would make much more sense in terms of my booking.
-
This has truly sucked. LOL. I hate the women. I can't book five straight battle royals either, so have been forced to book a lumberjack match. I dig the creativity. Any chance you'd be willing to send Dory Jr. up for a spot on 8/25? You'd get Ted Dibiase in his place.

Hopefully I can still get Abdullah the Butcher for August 29th since he's still open that date? Approved.

There goes my wknd.

Blackwell did get pushed to the side to make way for some Terry Funk awesomeness, but there are big plans in the future for the heels in this promotion, Blackwell especially.
-
I've also been working on this project ripping matches and promos in high quality from all the official WWE DVDs, going up to about 2000. At this point, I have about a TB of high quality matches on my HD. So I'm collecting matches and basically will never have time to watch them all.
-
Good thread. I feel perpetually stuck in the early 1980's. Not that I'm complaining. But I keep jumping around. Always making classic, talked-about matches my priority. Only within the past month have I really dug into some classic JCP matches, for instance. I've actually been thinking about setting a strict schedule and watching a few hours of one 80's promotion every night. Basically, I'd go through each of the DVDVR sets and then watch a bit of the TV for Mid Atlantic, Portland, Florida and Georgia. It's just all so much. And all so fucking good.

Yeah, I don't know many of the names, which is a testament to the booking here since this is still highly entertaining regardless.

Stampede Wrestling presents Wrestling At The Corral August 12, 1983 at the Stampede Corral in Calgary, Alberta (aired 8/13/83) We open with the participants already in the ring for our first match. 1. NWA Stampede British Commonwealth Mid-heavyweight Championship: The Cobra © vs. Junji Hirata Cobra begins to dominate the early moments of the match but misses a crossbody block and rolls to the outside. Hirata takes over on the outside and suplexes Cobra back in for a huge early nearfall. Cobra is motivated to fight back and takes over with a headscissors takedown into a submission attempt. Hirata makes the ropes and the two come to blows as they rise. Fast action takes over after an irish whip is reversed and a sunset flip attempt ends up getting two for Cobra. They come to blows again as Hirata tries for a schoolboy which gets a one count. Armbar by Hirata, but Cobra makes the ropes quickly. Fast movement again as they run the ropes and this time Cobra hits the crossbody block for another close two count. Cobra gets a suplex of his own and goes up for a moonsault when Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody storm the ring for the double disqualification. Winner - DDQ @ 13:29 Ed Whalen interviews Stan Hansen as Bruiser Brody continues to destroy Cobra and Hirata. Stan says they're done playing around. Last week, he took out Hito for good and he doesn't regret a thing. Now, Brody is back, and they're fixing to hurt somebody. He says they're used to beating up those puny Japanese boys, so Cobra and Hirata don't count. Commercials. Gene Kiniski is backstage with Bret Hart. Last week, Terry Funk shocked the world and arrived in a wooden crate to surprise Bret and beat him in the ring. This week, Terry recorded a message for Hart and sent it to them on video tape. They air the tape for Bret to watch. Bret just blows him off. He admits, last week, Funk surprised him and everybody and got the big cheap, trick win on him. But what people aren't saying, is how the next night, Bret put his title on the line and him and Funk had a really great, technical wrestling match where there were no antics, no surprises, no cheating, and Bret won clean in the middle of the ring. Now, if Terry wants to fight him, Bret's been fighting schoolyard bullies as long as he can remember, and he'll fight Terry just like he said: any time, any place. As for tonight, Terry Funk is long gone but he's seen a couple of bullies causing problems already. Bret knows he's the Stampede Champion, but he looks at the title belt as also sort of a badge. If he's the Sheriff of the Stampede, there are a few Outlaws to round up and Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen might be a tall order, but this is his home and there are plenty of friends and family around for a real Wild West showdown! A music video airs of Bret Hart highlights set to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". 2. The Tokyo Hurricanes (Hiro Saito, Shunji Takano w/ KY Wakamatsu) vs. The Lightning Express (Jim Brunzell & Phil LaFlour) Brunzell & Lafon working under a slightly different name for no reason. They get a lot of the match to show off some great high flying offense and the heels sell like crazy. Saito takes over after Brunzell gets ahead of himself and they're able to isolate him for a short heat segment before he escapes to make the tag. Lafon goes over fast and strong and looks to have Takano set to go down to a suplex, but Wakamatsu grabs his ankle and the win is stolen by the Hurricanes. Winners - Saito & Takano @ 8:34 Commercials. The Great Gama is out to formally introduce his newest tag team championship-caliber partner. He says he has looked all across the globe and searched high and low for someone with the intensity and the brute necessary to be his bruiser. Russia failed him, as to be expected. France provided nothing but stale croissants! Now, he looked to the South. America, he thought, "The Land of Opportunity". Now, he can give one lucky American the opportunity of a lifetime! He brings out Bulldog Bob Brown, accompanied by Gama's snake charmers and belly dancers from last week. Gama says this is his Monster, the ONLY true Bulldog of wrestling! He issues an open challenge to ANY team in Stampede Wrestling. 3. The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) vs. The Great Gama and Bulldog Bob Brown Bob looks shocked at the level of competition and immediately berates Gama for talking him into this whole thing. Davey and Dynamite take over Brown, who makes a tag to Gama unexpectedly while Gama is gabbing with the crowd. The Dogs eat Gama up and Brown refuses to tag in to save him. Flying headbutt finishes after Davey's powerslam. Winners - The British Bulldogs @ 4:56 Jerry Blackwell cuts a promo backstage. He says he hopes the Harts liked the surprise from Jimmy Hart last week, because there are more on the way. Until he gets that $10,000 back, there will be hell to pay. If Stu's plan is to send Andre to stand in front of him, then so be it. He'll take the Giant out for good. We see clips of Andre the Giant against Stan Hansen in Japan courtesy of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Commercials. We see Dino Bravo injured on the floor backstage. He's favoring his knee and he is a bloody mess. Ed Whalen says he is in no condition to wrestle Curt Hennig tonight, but they have made a favorable substitution in Matt Borne, who lost a title shot to Hennig last month. 4. Matt Borne (sub. for Dino Bravo) vs. Curt Hennig We get a heated contest between two young studs who don't want to back down from a fight. Both guys come off looking like they've got something to prove and go at it hard. They don't bother with holds, go right to strikes and then start throwing suplexes and slams. Hennig knees Borne to the gut low and takes out a leg. He looks to be working towards a figure four. Borne finds his balance and gets back to his feet to fight Hennig off. He hits a huge high suplex and tries for a pin but doesn't get it. Hennig backbody drops Borne all the way to the floor and wants the count out. Borne comes in and Hennig picks his knee up to drop it down on his, but Borne hits him with a roll as quarters fly everywhere! Hennig it out! Borne wins. Winner - Matt Borne @ 13:45 Hennig is bloody and out as we go to commercials. Commercials. Gene Kiniski and Ed Whalen are shocked and disappointed by Matt Borne's actions. They've decided to give Curt Hennig a chance to avenge the loss and break the tie in his series against Matt Borne. In two weeks in Vancouver, Hennig will get his chance as he faces Matt Borne in a rubber match. 5. Archie Gouldie vs. Mike Blood (Mike Hammer) Mike Hammer has changed his name to Mike Blood since last meeting Archie Gouldie, when Gouldie bypassed the athletic contest and beat Hammer silly with a chain, the third week in a row in which Hammer had been bloodied by an opponent. Gouldie gives him the benefit of the doubt this time, and not much more. Big boot and a second rope stomp finish him quickly. Winner - Archie Gouldie @ 3:14 Afterwards, Gouldie grabs his chain but looks to shake Blood's hand. Stomper tries to deck him with the chain, but Blood ducks and hits a drop toe hold! He gets the chain and wraps it around his fist, but Stomper kicks him low and chokes him out with the chain as he stands tall. Backstage, Gama Singh says he's been embarrassed for the last time and leaves the building. Gene Kiniski welcomes Bulldog Bob Brown to Stampede Wrestling, but says he needs to make better choices on who he teams up with in the future. Bob agrees, and says next time, he'll be out there tagging with a guy he can trust, and he knows he can trust him, because he's family -- Kerry Brown. Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody come out to the ring as Mike Blood is being attended to. They chase off the medical assistants and beat on Blood some more until Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart come out. 6. Street Fight: Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart vs. Stan Hansen & Bruiser Brody There's no referee and everyone except Brody is in street clothes. We see about 5 minutes of a wild brawl around the ringside area with the bullrope and a few other weapons thrown in. Hansen gets in the ring with Hart and really works a cut with the bullrope. Brody is overpowering Neidhart before he gets posted. Neidhart sneaks up on Hansen in the ring and gets the bullrope. He wraps Hansen in the rope and hits a big bodyslam, but Hart is pretty much dead already. Brody comes in and kicks Neidhart in the head. Hansen recovers and hits the lariat and WE ARE OUT OF TIME. Winners - Stan Hansen & Bruiser Brody @ 5:00 (via TKO)

TWO HUGE TITLE MATCHES SIGNED! "SUPERCARD IN VANCOUVER" 8/25/83 VS. NWA Canadian Heavyweight Championship Match Rick Martel vs. Dino Bravo VS. NWA Stampede North American Heavyweight Championship Match Bret Hart vs. Ted Dibiase Calgary, AB -- Two huge NWA Championship title matches have been signed for the big wrestling card in Vancouver on 8/25, which already features Andre the Giant and the "Incredible" Hulk Hogan. Bravo has been impressive lately, taking Rick Martel, Bret Hart, and even NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race to the limit in recent challenges. In the second Main Event-caliber championship title match of the evening, Vancouver fans will have a chance to see Bret Hart defend his NWA Stampede North American Heavyweight Championship against a more-than-formidable challenger in Mid South Wrestling's Ted Dibiase. Those great title matches, plus a big MAIN EVENT title match yet to be announced, as well as Midgets, Hart Brothers, Circus Clowns a special $3/ticket Meat Raffle ALL on Thursday, August 25th at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver!

The flip-side to the fact that Bret didn't work a lot of strong one-off matches is that when he was programmed with guys, especially guys who weren't up to snuff like Taker and Nash, he was able to build them up to where the third match in the series was usually a classic. He didn't get there with Sid or Vader, which is a shame really.

I think Bieber's stock will fall far enough to where he'll be willing to do something like this in a few years. The problem is, even though he is already over as a heel, he can't act.
