I'd also appreciate some feedback on my cards and results. The first TV episode was a little over the top maybe. We had the Jimmy Hart/Moondogs stuff in place. When I was able to book Funk it became a clusterfuck and turned into the Terry Funk Show. Should I try to make it more like Stampede proper?

Stampede Wrestling presents Wrestling At The Corral July 1, 1983 at the Stampede Corral in Calgary, Alberta The show opens with the playing of the Canadian national anthem in honor of Canada Day. 1. Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid vs. Jim Brunzell & Phil Lafon A fast paced competitive match that goes back and forth until the Kid is able to isolate Lafon and hit the diving headbutt to win. Winners - Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid @ 12:44 Commercials. Ed Whalen introduces a special guest, former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk, who joins us on commentary. Funk mentions he's filling in as a representative of the NWA for Gene Kiniski, who is at the tournament in Toronto for the NWA Canadian Championship featuring Bret Hart. 2. Matt Borne vs. Mike Hammer Borne takes over quickly and fends off Hammer's comeback attempts to hit an impressive combination of moves in succession to win. Winner - Matt Borne @ 5:13 After the match Terry Funk gets in the ring to give a dazed Hammer some advice. When an almost unconscious Hammer pushes him off, Funk gives Hammer a piledriver and bloodies him up. Bruce Hart and other members of the locker room come to Hammer's aid. Funk gets on the mic and wants to fight Stu! Commercials. Ed Whalen announces Funk has been removed from the building. 3. Curt Hennig vs. The Cobra A very even contest initially turns into a high flying showcase for the Cobra, who wins convincingly with a moonsault. Winner - The Cobra @ 8:29 Ed Whalen introduces the audience to KY Wakamatsu, who informs us that next week he will introduce a new tag team to the area, The Tokyo Hurricanes. Next week's show will also feature Bret Hart defending the North American Championship along with an appearance from Stan "The Lariat" Hansen! A pretaped interview with Dino Bravo and Frank "Frankie" Morell airs. Frank Sinatra's "My Way" plays in the background as they smoke cigars and claim to be coming to Calgary to take the tag titles from the Dungeon Masters "for the cosca". Commercials. 4. Bruce Hart vs. Jerry Blackwell w/ Jimmy Hart Bruce Hart takes over quickly and Blackwell is able to cheat to come back. At the 8:00 mark, the ref is knocked out by Blackwell's girth in the corner, and Jimmy Hart comes out of the crowd. Jimmy throws a fireball in Bruce's face and Blackwell hits a huge splash to win. Winner - Jerry Blackwell @ 10:00 Post match, Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart come to Bruce Hart's rescue, but they are outnumbered when Terry Funk returns with the Moondogs! Jimmy Hart holds Bruce down as Blackwell hits another huge splash on Bruce, this time on his already burned face. The Dynamite Kid comes out with a steel chair to clear the ring and close the TV show. After the show goes off the air, Bruce Hart is taken out by paramedics. Terry Funk challenges the remaining babyfaces to a six man bunkhouse tag match, which closes out the house show. 1. Ric Flair - The only reason we put the belt back on Harley is because the money is in the chase. Let's build it up and do it right. 2. Nick Bockwinkel - The NWA Champion needs to have a certain level of prestige. Few guys have what Bock and Flair have. 3. Roddy Piper - He's gonna be the hottest thing in wrestling, I'm just not sure this is the role he's fit for at the moment.

Since we're doing the '83 project, I've been watching a lot of Georgia TV and some MOTYCs from that year. Here's one for the holiday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeD_UKAXdU8

I figured he was getting you back for calling him Paul at one point.

Great interview, Pete. I do have to say that my heart sank a bit when Bruce said the matches will be presented in 16:9 instead of the original 4:3. I'm not sure I understand the point of that, but I'm still excited I suppose.

Yep. Stu has decided to pass the torch to Bruce a bit earlier than expected and Bruce has agreed to do his booking on the road. He will still appear in Stampede from time to time. We're outsourcing our TV production to a company in Vancouver to make it all look a bit more professional and will be moving tapings into a local studio in Calgary sometime in the next few months.

All sorts of strange mail arriving at the Hart Mansion this week. A few days ago, Antonio Inoki had the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship shipped in a wooden crate via Western Union. Today, a letter arrived addressed to Bruce Hart, post-marked Memphis, TN. Bruce shrugged it off and threw the letter and the card in the trash can.
