I want to say it was in a Torch Talk interview (Rock did one of those, right?) but I can't be certain since I'm no longer a subscriber.
-
C'mon now, Enzo was a thousand times more creative and varied than Road Dogg on the mic. Even The Rock publicly called out Road Dogg in the past about his lack of creativity. Apparently, there were some jealousy issues there (on Road Dogg's end, obviously) and heat between both of them - probably a residual effect of the uneasy relationship Rock and H had in their primes.

Give this man his own psychic hotline, because he absolutely nailed it - almost two years before it actually came to pass!

Is anyone here familiar with the Fire Pro Wrestling video game series? If you're burned out on the WWE 2K games, these are an awesome antidote. You won't get the most realistic or "next-gen" graphics, but what you do get is incredible sim-like gameplay and the best editing suite of any wrestling game series in history. Fire Pro Wrestling World just came out on Steam in Early Access and it's coming soon to PS4. It's the first new Fire Pro Wrestling game in TWELVE years - since Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on PS2 (re-released digitally on PS3 as a "PS2 Classic" a few years back). I remember talking about FPW Returns at the time on another board with none other than The Blue Meanie. Needless to say, I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. In the first 24 hours alone, over 800 CAWs have been uploaded on Steam for Fire Pro Wrestling World. So far I have Big Van Vader, Bruiser Brody, Andre the Giant, Finn Balor, and Asuka. There are still tons of wrestlers left to be added, but what an awesome start! This FPW is different in that you have to play through Mission mode to unlock all of the moves for the CAW. There is already a save file on Steam though to circumvent that. Because the game is still in Early Access, there are bugs and features that still needed to be added. But it already plays like a dream IMO. Still, I'm sure there are issues and areas to nitpick. Since there is no Early Access on PS4, I'm guessing that version will be "complete" right out of the gate. For now, though, it's only on Steam. If you get it on Steam now while it's still in Early Access, it's only $20. The price will eventually be higher when it's out of EA. No word on the PS4 pricing yet, but I assume it will be higher than $20 too. http://store.steampowered.com/app/564230/Fire_Pro_Wrestling_World/

That's odd if he said Aries didn't ask for his release, because he tweeted the exact opposite: UPDATE: We can confirm that Austin Aries asked for his release. https://twitter.com/WONF4W/status/883463477989429248

What is the point of even having a match while this ambulance angle is still going on? Poor Slater and Hawkins.
-
I thought Goldust vs. Truth was on this show? Is that going to be the cooldown match between Braun/Roman and Brock/Joe?
-
What a great tag match! The rest of the show has been disappointing so far IMO, but that match was far better than I was expecting.
-
Does Barry Windham count? He certainly got title shots and main event feuds, but I'm not sure he ever really had a "big money run." Heck, he never won a legitimate World Title (I refuse to count the bastardized WCW NWA/International/Big Gold title from 1993 as a real World Title).

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread

The situations are completely different, and Alberto is indeed 100x worse, but the man-child behavior is the same for both at the core. Instead of going on Twitter like a toddler, Tama could have talked to the office, talked to J.R. privately, or any other number of things an adult would do to rectify a professional situation. Well, I didn't really want to get into politics here - even if it's sort of on-topic because of Trump's history with WWE, status as a WWE HOFer, etc. But yes, celebrities do the same thing too. They're another group of Peter Pans though. My point is, Joe Sixpack with the 9 to 5 job isn't rambling about his co-worker on Twitter (and if he is, there will be actual repercussions for his actions). -

Indeed, and I don't mind juvenile locker room behavior if it's going to somehow draw money somewhere. This definitely won't, and neither will Alberto's constant stupidity. Granted, I'm sure Alberto thinks being a loud-mouthed drunken dickhead will expose more people to GFW, but I don't see any of his babbling nonsense actually translating into viewers. If anything, it's only turning people off. -

I get all of that - I really do. But an adult handles his business like a professional. A child goes on Twitter and throws a tantrum. I have absolutely no respect for the way Tonga went about it. Maybe it's just a sore spot with me, but I'm getting REALLY tired of unprofessional toddlers like Tama Tonga, Alberto El Patron, etc. constantly running their mouths like giant 6-year-olds. I realize it's just wrestling and almost everyone's in a perpetual state of arrested development, but it gets tiring. Would anyone else be able to act this way in their job/career? No. -

I'm not as well-versed on this situation as others, but a few random thoughts: - J.R. and Barnett are bigger draws than "Hermie" and "The Jackal." Really not tough to understand why NJPW made that decision. I heard the Bucks weren't happy with Barnett "burying" them on commentary though. - Not having time to e-mail someone back would ordinarily sound like bullshit to me, but even J.R.'s website's blog and Q&A haven't been updated recently. I guess the answer depends on when Scott E. Williams' widow sent the e-mail. - Are we sure J.R. didn't start over with another author after Scott E. Williams passed away? Paul O'Brien is listed as the co-author now, and it would seem highly unusual to have two co-authors. (I realize Flair's book did, but that's the exception, not the rule.) Edit: After reading the tweets, it seems J.R. is now promising Williams will be on the cover for helping him with the book early on. Whether that's because Bix got on his case, I don't know. Edit: Just saw this tweet. 'Bad Boy' Tama Tonga‏Verified account @Tama_Tonga Commentating sucked at the #G1Special..at least @realkevinkelly knows the storylines and OUR F#CKING NAMES He's not wrong, but he sounds like an unprofessional ass IMO. That's the problem with wrestling these days. Too many immature man-child types (Tama Tonga, Alberto, etc.) and not any honest-to-goodness grown-ups. Tama Tonga should change his name to Tama Toddler. -
He's been "doing fine on the indies" his entire career. Going back to that feels like a lateral move and stale to me. *Shrug* At least Cody's run on the indies is something new and fresh for him.

IF he asked for his release, I think he made a mistake. Let's look at his WWE history: - He flopped in NXT. After an ill-fated face run, he turned heel and fared only slightly better. - After an injury, he got called right up to the main roster a year before anyone thought he would. - He got to open WrestleMania. Yes, pre-show and all of that, but the fact that he was in that spot instead of still at Full Sail had to be considered a bonus IMO. - Lost three times to Neville, which is admittedly strange, but I was hoping that would be his way out of the CW division - or at least the catalyst for a heel turn since he's one of the worst babyfaces ever (although, to be fair, he was over with the main WWE audience as a face). So, if he wanted out for ego reasons, stupid and silly mistake. I get that you don't want to spend years languishing in the opening card like Cody Rhodes and Jack Swagger did, but Aries could have at least stuck around a little while longer. His run was too brief for him to give WWE a real chance. All of that is, of course, assuming that HE wanted the release. That may not be the case though, especially considering WWE's "Vegans are geeks" culture. Who knows?

No one really gives a flying fuck about 205 Live or the Cruiserweight Division, but I thought his feud and matches with Neville got good reactions and a decent amount of airtime. The only problem, I suppose, from Airies' perspective was that he lost three in a row.

From WWE.com: WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors. http://www.wwe.com/article/austin-aries-released This is a real shocker and I think it deserves its own thread. Wonder what the hell happened.

Paige was supposedly in the crowd for Slammiversary:
-
Oh maaaan, Natalya is an absolute trip on Total Divas - drunk-dialing Stephanie, purposely crashing her car so WWE wouldn't discover that she ate pot brownies given to her by Paige, and just generally being a neurotic "crazy cat lady" type. It's amazing!
