  1. Who else thinks Wrestling II vs. Funk would be an absolute blast? I would go out on a limb and say slapping the Moondogs is a huge mistake anytime, anywhere.
  2. That seemed like the talking points from a Flair promo if I ever heard one. Finish for the main is great and the final piece in setting up BR vs. BR. Michaels going almost an hour in 85 is an interesting choice.
  3. Yeah, this seemed like a waste of the six wrestlers. They built to something that never happened. Very little comedy. Dive train was awesome and Porky landing on his feet after that dive was super impressive. Beyond that, not much to see here. I always love the energy Super Porky comes into the ring with when he does the footwork like he's some kind of kung fu guy though. Whatever it is about it I mark out every time I see it.
  4. Match is perfectly fine for AJPW around this time. Late 1990-early 1994 are to me, the peak years for All Japan as far as in-ring goes. And it is still one of my favorite wrestling styles ever. Jumbo destroying Kikuchi is ridiculous kinds of fun no matter how much I see it. The 4 backdrop drivers I think officially start the need to practically murder Misawa to get a pin on him. Which may have had a hand in later problems Misawa had just a little bit. Good match and I always love the trips back to AJPW, but it's nice to have other promotions in there to spice it up. Keeps things more fresh than watching 6-man after 6-man with a lot of the same themes.
  5. Foley is starting to look like Foley. And act like it. Who was that masked man in the main?
  6. Creatchman needs to learn to hand the money out backstage. Much less incriminating.
  7. I thought Suzuki was more active through the second half of the bout by far and Sano was blown up. If that's him selling then kudos, because he looked like a guy who was out of breath. Not a knock on Sano or the match. It was well-worked for a 30 minute draw shootstyle match. Suzuki did a great job of carrying the later portions and giving Sano the time he needed to recover. Sano, to his credit, put the effort forth when it was needed. It just looked to me like he was gassed. It actually added to the match in a lot of ways.
  8. I guess if wrestling in front of dead crowds is a sign you're doing things right, the MVCs way of building matches is awesome. Do they not notice it? Anyway, the work on Misawa's leg actually had direction. Not that it made me want to wake up after 10 minutes of MVC laziness. Finish was fine, but MVCs again took way too much of it.
  9. I'd agree this was a lot of fun. Super fast paced and all action with weird matchups you never expected to see. The TNT/Hashimoto matchup was a lot of fun I thought. Everybody had their time to shine in this and while I wouldn't say it was a ***** classic, I'd say it was damn worth the 20 minutes watching it. That felt maybe like ten.
  10. Little tip for Southern referees. When you suspect somebody is hiding something, check the hands AND the trunks all at the same time. Crazy idea, might work though. Perfectly normal "please go see the big match" match. Embry with all the stalling and cheating we expect and want Lawler to punish him for, Lawler with the comeback and an unsatisfying end. When both of these guys decide to go it's great, but this was not it.
  11. I'm not sure Tunney could have been as convincing as Vince was. Kudos to Vince for sounding like he means it even a little. Also, kudos to Vince for the unintentional humor. Was laughing my way through this whole thing. I'm sure it would be great if all sports had drug testing like the WWF in 1991!
  12. I want this to work because I'm a big fan of Keirns. If 1991 has taught me anything about the Big 2, it's to expect the worst and be happy with anything better.
  13. I liked this a lot. I didn't love it, but man once it really gets rolling Hash and Vader bring the goods. Maybe it's the slow beginning that makes it seem like less than a classic. Also, it seems like NJPW is still putting Vader over as a monster. I'm not sure if Hash has been in a lot of matches to this point where 75% or more of the early offense belongs to the opponent. I can cut him a little slack for having to work different than he's used to.
  14. So was this put on last for strategic reasons? Maybe the crowd is shitting all over Flair not being there all night, so Dusty as this ingenious plan to put THIS....i'm not sure there are words bad enough...this...thing worse than every Bull Drop Inn episode combined after the title match so people think the title match is better by comparison? It's the only logical reason for it's placement that I can think of. On to my issues with it. 1. Rick just watches as Missy is kidnapped. I'm ignoring Missy's hair dyed to match Rick's I assume. That Rick Steiner is a class guy, not doing a damn thing as his tag team partner is carted off by the guys who INJURED HIS BROTHER! So we're painting him as a coward and a terrible partner. Good. We did get to see Murdoch almost punch some teenaged kid, so there was one positive. 2. Arn is knocked silly for HOW long by a clothesline? I get he's Rick Steiner and he has that "my-last-name-is-in-front-of-my-clothesline" thing going, but really? I'm at the point where I dread WCW coming up and would rather see joshi.
  15. Good enough match for most circumstances, but not these. Maybe Barry was a little pissed about having to do the job here. I think they did pick it up a lot at the end and the crowd did respond to Luger winning. Not sure anybody in the audience cared about the whole Race/Hughes deal. And I'm not sure J.R. even knew that Hughes was no longer with the York Foundation. Way too much happening with no explanation.
  16. He comes off as crazy in an evil sort of way i guess....
  17. Greatest wrestling match ever!! Yeah!! Uhm, who believes that?
  18. So can we say after this match that Robert Gibson was pretty good at...playing...Ricky..Morton? Because he is actually pretty good at it. Morton pulls off being a heel very well. Crowd does give them enough respect to not chant during the match. Tony and J.R. do great with the one worthwhile match on the card, makes sense. Just wish the crowd had been as into this as they should have been.
  19. I'd call this a mess, but that would be giving it too much credit. Was there anything leading up to this match besides Austin beating Eaton for the TV title?
  20. Not as epic as their 1990 matches for sure. There is something to garreta's statement that these two deserve credit for working a different match though. Different rules, less time...if they try to keep doing what they have been doing it is going to fail miserably. For two guys as young as they are to see this and adapt is pretty telling that there are some ring smarts there. Waltman's seriously insane dive is incredible and they do stuff that would be cutting edge anywhere in the world in between all the more traditional wrestling all match. I'm really glad this footage still exists. Imagine if WCW had actually gone with their LHW division seriously and brought in these guys and some Japanese talent in 1991/92.
  21. I am about halfway through. I really like seeing Pillman's side of things against the backdrop of 1990/1991 WCW. I've been watching enough of that recently to see how chaotic the booking was and it is well represented in the book.
  22. Yup, that's how I book all my TV. If it's on there it should either be building a guy up or moving one of the feuds forward. One thing about TV in the 80s is that it was very focused on getting you to the house shows, the big shows to see the matches that meant something.
  23. Great build-up to Starrcade on your first show. I like putting Houston and Taylor together right away. Sam Houston seems to be getting a much better push wherever he ends up than he ever did in the real world.
  24. I liked the house shows, but for me the highlight was TV. Killer Khan lives up to the name, JAKE shows up and acts all mysterious and BOCK is going to be Orndorff's new challenger? If I'm watching this in real time that's all very exciting stuff.
