I know you don't want to do a ton of research, but look at invader 3. His scaffold match vs. Chicky Starr, there are I think a couple of matches out there with Eric Embry. He's definitely a world class junior and I can spare him for juniors tournaments and the like. I'll also be using Owen for a while, won't need him for January 4th for sure. I also want to say that Tenryu's gang looks incredible. Tenryu, a young Kawada, Fuchi, hara and Inoue all together is sooo awesome.

NWA World Class Championship Wrestling December 1985
dawho5 replied to GeneJackson95's topic in Promotions
Garvin & Embry really kill it with that promo. Kerry really must want to get his hands on Studd. -
Great MSG card. I'll second Windham/Rude and add in Fantastics/Sheepherders. The whole Hart situation went as well as it could have. And that guy showing up at the end, money well spent by Teddy.

With all of the departures, one really stood out. Tojo leaving is actually seen as maybe even a bad thing because nobody will be around to control Killer Khan. Or somebody worse. Very good stuff there. Slaughter is going to have to rebuild.

I don't have any streaming services. Youtube is chock full of wrestling and that's enough for me.

Wedding was really well done. I did not expect it to be done with as much reverence as it was. I thought Piper and Monsoon walking all over Bobby during this was right. His way of doing things didn't fit this segment. Probably for the best that the shots of the cobra in some other universe were mixed with the actual snake that was in the box. I doubt you'd want an actual cobra being used as a hand puppet that close to your face.

I'm with garreta on the announcing for this show. Bobby has his moments, but the other two are beyond useless. Except for maybe Piper during the Virgil match. They sure cleared Warrior out of there in a hurry never to return. Jacques was again good, but I have to wonder. Is suggested rape really good for an attempt at humor? Even if it is a heel, that's going a little far.

[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] Legion of Doom vs Nasty Boys
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
I was also annoyed by the way this was worked. It is a no DQ match. What is to stop all 4 guys from just brawling the whole damn time? Especially if they are all big, angry musclehead brawler types like these guys are. It's not a bad normal tag match, but they completely ignored the stip. Nothing bothers me more. Then we get more Jacques, so I'm happy again. -
[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] Interviews / The Mountie goes to jail
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
I thought Jacques was the best part of this. He really goes full bore on this and it's great. That's 2 French Canadians (Rougeau and Martel) who have made entertaining characters out of essentially Vince's throwaway gimmicks for guys he didn't want to be over because he didn't make them. Can we not just give guys a chance to shine and see what they do with it? -
Yeah, using retired guys as managers is a pretty common practice. If they are good talkers it is pretty common for that to happen.

Welcome back Gordi! If you need anything from the WWC let me know.

Good to see los Infernales already working in Lutte. They are great, but not really a part of what I had in mind for WWC. Didn't want to just drop them entirely off the map and not mention it, so I did that whole run with them to get them out without doing that WCW/WWE thing where you just try to move on and hope the audience forgets they were there. Love seeing Jacques get a long match.

[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] Big Bossman vs The Mountie
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
I thought Jacques did a really good job making himself into any kind of a threat given the way he has been handled so far. He really killed it in the pre-match interview, all but calling the New York cops bumbling idiots more than once. He also did a great job of fighting his post-match fate as much as you would expect him to. Bossman had to be a stiff bastard who got rid of the crooked Mountie and pulled that off fine. I'll agree there wasn't a ton of chemistry, but the fans seemed like they were behind Bossman and that's enough to make it work. -
Virgil splatting on the floor was completely unexpected and all the respect in the world to the guy for doing it. I liked the drama of Piper thinking about getting involved and even the fans demanding it while DiBiase was abusing Virgil. Virgil using DiBiase's hubris against him is the perfect way to win the match. I would have liked to see Virgil go to the booth and celebrate with Piper a little. Really good match for having a career non-wrestler in it. Very emotional, which is a component of wrestling that I think gets ignored in favor of the more physical aspect of things.

[1991-08-26-WWF-Summerslam] Bobby Heenan and Hulk Hogan's arm
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
Heenan kills this segment. He's just so incensed that it blew up in his face that it's great. I did enjoy that the star of the show Hulk Hogan had a piece of paper with "Hulk" written on his door. -
I liked the finishing run a lot. Perfect did way more than he had to do and he should have gotten a lot of respect for that. Both guys worked hard and while there are definitely flaws, it seems like we should grade this on a curve for how limited Perfect was going in.

[1991-08-24-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Lex Luger & Harley Race
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
This is like the non-radio-edit version of the promo from before. Either way, Luger needs to start setting himself apart in some way. Any. Way. It seems like shouting and "doing whatever it takes" are the hallmarks of this character, which don't really make him different.- 6 replies

[1991-08-24-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Cactus Jack
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
Cactus is finally sounding like Cactus! I'm excited to see him back on the big stage. I hope WCW can figure out what to do with him.- 6 replies

Shamrock shows off a lot of athleticism and there is a story to this. Funaki gets the better of Shamrock for most of this, with the exception of some Shamrock strikes that catch him off-guard. But Funaki always has a counter on the mat, where Shamrock tends to need to go to the ropes quite a bit. Funaki actually does some foreshadowing when he immediately drops to the mat after Shamrock goes behind for the first time. He'd rather go to the mat and risk Shamrock having his back (remember Funaki has been in charge on the mat) than allow Shamrock a chance at a suplex. Then when Shamrock hits a suplex after the strike flurry it actually does put Funaki away in what seems like a reversal of fortune given the body of the match.

That TV was absolutely huge. I like how you settled the Rockers, not something that is final, but leaving the door open for them to come back one day. King Tonga is on an absolute tear on TV and I love it!

[1991-08-18-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Barber Shop: Sensational Sherri
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
Sherri appears to be a bit upset about the wedding. Brutus eggs her on a little, but not in an overly entertaining way. I will say that Sherri plays her part brilliantly as always. It seems like being a great character in the WWF or WCW at the time is the kiss of death. You just sit in a sort of time loop where the only thing that changes is who you talk about in character. -
[1991-08-18-WWF-Primetime Wrestling] Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in August 1991
They did vaguely mention Warrior "not being the same", but that's all we get. Can't fully equate the snake bite to Warrior not being there because, you know, not really in the same universe. I was surprised when Sid jumped up on the apron. Where was that kind of agility or effort in his actual matches? -
I was distracted and then annoyed by the ref, but a good match and one I've seen a few times. Finlay stands out and I think it has a lot to do with what garretta mentioned about Finlay's offense being more suited to the environment.

I loved Jumbo's reaction to the crowd booing him when he went in to interrupt Kobashi. And after this, instead of trying to redeem himself, Jumbo takes himself and Taue full on into dick heel mode. Misawa looked like he hurt his right shoulder or elbow. Was there a major injury he wrestled through around this time?
