Two womens matches were the highlights for me. Can we please have a Sasha/Becky feud? I thought Paige was probably at her best as a heel last night. That Raw match was muuch better than the Survivor Series one, but Charlotte needs to put Paige through the announce table next week.

I definitely liked it more the second time. The pieces came together a lot better.

It got pretty sloppy a few times, but not really at any big parts really from what I can remember. Amazing storytelling though. Ambitious as heck. Great, but not quite as great as Brooklyn.

Her Northern Lights is always reeeally nice.

I wouldn't be upset if they followed NXT's booking to a T. Have Charlotte get the title, lose it down the line to Sasha in a fatal four way and have Sasha hold it til Bayley arrives.
-
I thought the Nikki/Charlotte finish (and match leading up to it) was pretty good for what it was. Nikki going into Sasha Banks mode with the armwork was surprising and the crowd was into it. I'm excited for their match on Sunday. Sasha/Paige was darn good. I worry for Sasha's neck though.

NXT has treated the rematch clause seriously with regularity before, why would this be an exception? The had a Great Match and now get the chance to have another one going on last on the next special while they figure out who Bayley's next challenger will be. They're two of the best characters and wrestlers in WWE with probably the best organic rivalry going at the moment. WHY AREN'T YOU EXCITED?
-
Sasha/Paige was pretty good and left me wanting more. Paige is much better as a babyface when she's in there with someone who knows how to pace a match and get some heat.
-
Oooof, that looks bad. Hopefully she's okay and they never try that again.

Sasha has also been a sweetheart at her core and had to GET MEAN to succeed. I think it makes sense to have her breakdown a bit and revert to that after such a big emotional match and loss. edit: She's also a very loved heel and her walking that line is quite okay with me, especially if she's not part of NXT anymore.

It's a really special thing to have a rivalry between two wrestlers who play their roles so well weave together a simple story, build a ton of momentum, deliver when the big moment comes, and then surpass all expectations. I'm so, so impressed and happy to be a wrasslin' fan.

Fantastic show. Bayley/Sasha's an easy MOTYC. Good god, I haven't been that invested in a wrasslin match since Wrestlemania 30. Sasha's handstuff and how they got to it by having Bayley have an answer for pretty much everything was really great.

[2001-04-20-NJPW-Strong Energy] Minoru Tanaka vs Takehiro Murahama
Codysseus replied to Loss's topic in April 2001
Probably one of my favorite matches. I just rewatched it for the first time in a good 8 years or so and held up quite well. Tanaka at this time was one of the few best juniors around and Murahama brought *it* in this match. My favorite part was how patiently and gradually they ramped up the intensity. Neither could really get much of an advantage on the mat or with strikes at first, then each of them were able to force a couple of ropebreaks. Tanaka scores first with the big backdrop suplex, but wants Murahama in the middle of the ring and lets him recover. The big turning point (and probably highlight of the entire match) was Murahama's surprise high kick just as they're fingers touch as it looks they're about to go head back to the mat or exchange strikes. Minoru drops dead, the crowd pops, and they get a great nearfall before any real damage has been done. Great stuff. From there, Tanaka's in serious trouble battling out of cross armbars, kicking out of german suplexes, getting kicked in the head, and getting dived on while trying to get some space outside - Murahama refuses to be as patient as Tanaka was minutes before. Great stuff. -
Agreed. She's incredibly good at what she does for someone so young. She's at least only going to get more confident, which should only help her already stellar character work.

I probably would give less of a shit about Bayley's selling if it wasn't so obviously a big part of the story of the match. I really hope Sasha blatantly stating that she'd go after Bayley's injured hand plays out in their match. That sounds fun. Bayley's story is a really good one. I'm not sure how much of that has to do with great long-term booking as much as it has to do with her being a fantastic underdog character. As much as I like her, I'm hoping she falls juuust short of beating Sasha at Takeover and gets her revenge at the next big special. Letting it simmer a bit more could be even better. Then again, they're probably not going to have another show as big as this anytime soon and Sasha's most likely on her way out of NXT, sooooo....go Bayley go.

It was good! I loved Becky's armwork. It was focused, varied, and kept moving. I think Bayley's a very good face but if she sold how hurt her arm was better I think they could've gotten a bit more drama out of the thing. But all in all that was one of the better regular NXT episode matches I've seen in a while.

This didn't do a whole lot for me. I'm relatively new to Joshi and didn't see any of the rest of the tournament (or any AJW from 1990), so I don't know if I missed much, but yeah! Toyota's attack at the bell was really fun and, if not desperate, emotionally charged. I was expecting Hotta to come back in after regrouping herself and put her in her place, but Toyota's barrage of offense did enough (BLOOD) to keep Hotta at bay even after she got a few well-placed kicks to the face in. Hotta putting Toyota in hold after hold in the middle of the ring worked for me (whatever it was that boston crab evolved into being a highlight), but I was disappointed Toyota's comeback didn't. After the flash pin attempt from her back, I thought the transition was done a little too quickly. More teases probably would've helped, as Childs pointed out above 3 years ago. After that there were a couple of good nearfalls mixed into a bit of a mess of a tit-for-tat closing stretch. They looked like they were consciously taking turns and it probably didn't help there were a few blown spots and moments of obvious cooperation. That start though!

I think Bret's selling encouraged crowds to get behind him by making it actually look like her was hurt. It probably wasn't something that originally got him over, but it definitely got crowds behind him during matches. Daniel Bryan's run as a babyface since 2013 has been really great, so he'd be up there for me as far as best babyfaces go. Sure, he's a natural underdog and seems like pretty likable guy. But his timing, selling, and aggression makes it *real* easy to get behind him. I also think Bayley has the potential to be in this conversation at some point.

Hi friends, My name is Cody. I'm 27 and live in western New York with my wife and two kids. I started getting into wrestling outside of the WWF and WCW in middle school. ECW led to other American Indies which lead to Japan and bits of other stuff. I usually visited SSS (and Stu's IRC chat room) and Happy Wrestling land (and its IRC chat room) with some DVDVR mixed in a bit. I'm a big fan of some pretty typical stuff around these parts: Jumbo Tsuruta, 90s All Japan, 90s NJPW juniors, the Destroyer, Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, etc etc etc. Guerrero and Benoit were two of my absolute favorites and their deaths, as well as college and trying to have a social life, turned me off from wrestling for 5 years or so. I got back into it when my life settled down a bit, I saw that CM Punk and (especially) Daniel Bryan Danielson had miraculously become the biggest things in the wrestling. This board reminds me of how much wrestling I've forgotten about and makes me want to dive in real deep again. Turn ons include Daniel Bryan Danielson, Sasha Banks, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bray Wyatt's theme song

I like Steve. I think of him as a masterful storyteller whose great matches had such a high level of detail and nuance that he brought to them.. His performance vs the Rock at Wrestlemania 17 is one of my all-time favorite individual wrestling performances and I can't think of anything HBK did that was at that level. I still haven't seen the Taker Wrasslemania matches, though.

I really wish the NXT fans would boo Kevin Owens. He's a great heel who acts like a heel, but they spend so much time chanting for him that they barely pop when Zayn makes his comebacks. I thought the women's 4-way was equal or better than the main event, but that doesn't really surprise me. I thought Sasha/Charlotte form the last Takeover was the best NXT match of 2014...except maaaybe Charlotte/Natalya.
-
I think you're right. Charlotte has improved pretty drastically in a short period of time. But to answer the OP, I agree. I think Sasha's much better. One thing that sets her apart from Charlotte is her offense. My favorite Charlotte matches (vs Natalya, vs Sasha) so far have her working as a face, or at least not dominating for any extended period of time. There's still something missing for Charlotte when she's on top for a while. But Sasha has great, creative offense and seems much more comfortable in that dominant heel role. I'm hoping that we get a real Sasha/Bayley feud at some point. I think Bayley's as good of a babyface as the WWE has, man or woman, so having a major program between the two would probably be pretty durn fantastic.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
