WWE TV 03/11 - 03/17: Exposing civilians by fabricating lies
Hawkeye12 replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I thought Orton's WM 21 match with the Undertaker was pretty good. Really the first time it felt like the streak might end and hitting the RKO still felt like a big deal for Undertaker to kick out from. Also thought his match with CM Punk was the lone highlight of WM 27 (worst WM ever IMO), and I'm not a Punk fan at all but the finish was well done. -
WWE TV 03/11 - 03/17: Exposing civilians by fabricating lies

I would guess Angle either finally faces the Undertaker at Wrestlemania or he'll face Cena since he was Cena's first opponent and come full circle. None of the three seemed to have any plans for the show, so putting two of them together would make sense. I did read that Cena might face Samoa Joe, which could be fun, so I'll lean towards giving Taker one of the matches he always wanted at WM but never had. -
Happy to see Harlem Heat recognized and Stevie Ray get in with Booker. Booker may have been flashier and more athletic, but watching their GWF and early WCW stuff, Stevie is clearly the ring general in there and covered up for Booker a lot, be it from botching a flashy spot or just the match sliding off the rails for a bit until he tagged in and settled things down. Their tag series with the Nasty Boys is their best stuff, but I think the Nasties are really underrated and should probably be in the HOF themselves. I don't think teams like the Steiners and Road Warriors really meshed well with Harlem Heat. I'd have to watch the Public Enemy matches but those may have been alright too. I did enjoy his WCW angle when Stevie used his power of attorney to become TV champion when Booker was injured in 1998, what a great heel move.

Lee Marshall wasn't the voice of Tony the Tiger until 1999.

RIP One of my top 20 favorites ever. He was a great heel and a great babyface in his limited chances. Would've loved to see him get a run against Heenan in the WWF for a spell. His couple shoot interviews in recent years are some of my favorites as well. Great sense of humor and didn't take wrestling too seriously, but appreciated the success it brought him.

Perry Saturn and Balls Mahoney are both there as well.

Konnan was billed as "The Latin Fury" in the Barr match.

All of these AWA shows are giving me hope that they'll show a compete SuperClash IV sometime, we know Saito-Zbyszko aired so they probably taped it all.

If the article I came across yesterday was correct, it was after his NFL stint that he got sick the first time. The Jags released him in 2007 and he played five games for the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL in 2008 but was cut in July. By the time he got healthy he decided to quit football and go into wrestling. It only described it as an illness in the article though, didn't specify it was cancer, but since he said it went into remission in 2008 the timeline becomes clearer.

Sad news, definitely praying for him. Hope he can beat it and make a comeback down the road.

Larry has never been a fan of Flair, but I've never heard if that feeling is reciprocated.

Adding stuff like this World Class show are why I'll keep giving Vince my ten bucks every month. I couldn't care less about NXT, Mae Young tourneys, UK tourneys, 205 live, etc and, if friends didn't come over most of the time, the PPVs aren't usually must watch events either, but the old school stuff that I've never seen before will keep me around. Considering it probably takes me a year to get through 1986 WCW episodes for instance, I never run out of stuff I've never seen before.

83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff
Hawkeye12 replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It was mentioned back on WWE Confidential in 2003 as well. -
That became internet lore, but no one ever accused him of it (maybe some second hand versions based off of the rumors claim it happened). He did what was mentioned above with the sun tan oil in the gym bag and it grew legs from there. Honestly that's pretty harmless, albeit annoying. Still rather have that than someone cut up my clothes like the Bulldogs used to do.

Big E, Nia Jax and Carmella are all homegrown without previous experience. Enzo isn't there anymore, but he's another guy.

Ranger Ross disagrees with your assertion LOL. Actually I started watching NWA in summer '89, right around when Flair won the belt and Funk attacked him. In just those couple months I saw Ron Simmons just a couple times, but it was enough that I recognized him as part of DOOM immediately. Looking back, Reed wrestled quite a bit in early 89, but must have taken time off just in time for me to miss him completely so at least he surprised me.

I thought his MSG match vs Brutus was good when I watched it on whichever Coliseum Video on the Network. He even goes over during a time they were pushing Brutus reasonably hard in late 89.

James Ellsworth talked about the meeting and said that before Hulk was introduced to talk, the entire focus of Triple H's speech was about being careful about being recorded and that was a major point of having the meeting in the first place, even before Hulk was able to apologize to the locker room. He thought the apologize was genuine and well received by the locker room.

In fairness, there is an entire relationship though for you to judge on instead of just a couple minute conversation. Stack$ is a kid that ended up having a pretty lengthy relationship with Brooke afterwards (I think they publicly acknowledged their breakup in 2011) and was very welcomed by Hulk during that time even when Brooke was no longer under contract to his dad's label, which speaks way more to the real Hulk than a couple of drunk words said when he was upset before he was even sure if they were a couple. Her boyfriend was definitely included on both Hogan Knows Best and Brooke Knows Best TV shows over the next couple years. Linda Hogan even used their close relationship against Hulk when she tried to bury him and Brooke during the divorce because she didn't like how close Hulk was with Stack$. If he actually meant the things that he said on the tape, certainly Linda would've brought that up during her publicity against him (and I know they were already separated by the time of the recording, but they still talked during that time), and instead it was actually the opposite. And should make note that at no point does he refer to Cecile Barker as the n-word either if we are going to parse every word of the conversation of the tape. He calls him a black billionaire, he doesn't ever use the other term about him unless there is more to the conversation than was released. As for if Hulk has shown remorse, I guess I and many others think he has shown plenty, for others it'll probably never be enough. It has to be strange when eight years later (his life in 2015 was like a lifetime ago from 2007 with Linda's divorce, Nick's accident, getting married again, American Gladiators, TNA, WWE return, etc) you hear a leaked conversation of yourself that you don't even remember saying, and trying to go back to that bad time in your life when you'd already moved so far past that and are in such a positive place.

RIP Masa Saito He won the AWA title shortly after I started watching wrestling and distinguishing how there were multiple companies. Still remember him in the Unknown Soldier angle against Zbyszko as one of my first AWA memories on ESPN. Such a big part of the WCW/New Japan relationship as well. He had a pretty cool career, a little bit of everything.

Glad Hogan is back, his absence was way longer than it ever should've been for something that was almost a decade old by the time it came out. When CM Punk used a gay slur at a WWE event, one apology was good enough and everyone moved on. I don't think Chyna doing porn in itself is the reason she hasn't gone in, afterall they've done plenty to put over her role in the Monday Night War and the women's revolution. It's the way she died and her demons, a lot of those folks aren't in the HOF yet either (Pillman, Davey Boy, etc), they'd rather slip one in at a time like Rude and Hennig, which is fine. And she also did a porn parody that included Vince and Stephanie characters that probably hurts her case the most. Nobody cares that her and X-Pac had a video any more than Paige's stuff hasn't affected her, it's probably the other one that would be hard to explain to their kids if they saw it.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Hawkeye12 replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
Razor used a lot of combo colors that he'd already used as the Diamond Studd, but I don't remember green and yellow in WCW. He did wear blue and green trunks that sounds like an odd combo, but actually looked pretty good, but then don't remember that in the WWF. It's funny that Jarrett's mid-90s outfit is mentioned, when I went through the 1995 RAWs on the Network I grew to enjoy a lot of what they did that year and some of the characters like Jean Pierre Lafitte, Kama, and Duke the Dumpster that get made fun of quite a bit. But one of the most annoying things was Jarrett's gear and all the wild color combos, like they just dipped it into a box of confetti and whatever stuck is what they went with. I could actually buy Jarrett as IC champ and rewatching even think he could've had a transition run with the WWF title in that Bret/Diesel/HBK era, he was having great matches, good enough promos and he got great heat with the Roadie, but those outfits were unbearable. -
I enjoy the Pioneer Era, especially Frank Gotch. Besides being an Iowan, it was reading about his travels in the Yukon as "Frank Kennedy" that led me to read even more about him and that era. And then the 1980s-2005ish because that's the peak era of my fanhood.

That Steiners one would definitely be awesome to see. I'm a sucker for anything in Chicago. I missed that one and still regret it. I can't remember if it was wcw magazine or pwi that had pics of the cage match but the arena was well lit so guessing it could have been filmed. I think it was WCW magazine because I seem to remember seeing them shown during one of the WCW magazine TV segments with Bischoff.
