  1. Wild end to another fun show. Embry continues to crack me up. I can't imagine how Dr.D is going to react to him LOL. Ron Garvin is one of the only guys in the business who can stand alone. Love the Steiners getting some heat on the Fantastics. Terry Funk is acting crazier than ever. Man your next Amarillo card is stacked!
  2. The Dick Slater storyline gets more and more interesting. Looking forward to the Andersons/Road Warriors clash. The Duggan/Dr. Death feud is in high gear. Rip Oliver is looking strong and I think he's heading for big things. Texas Tornados continue to build momentum. Liked the Warrior/Barbarian power match.
  3. MACW @ WTBS Studios Recorded 1-30-86, Aired 2-1-86 Schiavone: Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of Mid Atlantic Championship, with me as always is David Crockett. Crockett: Thank you Tony, boy do we have a great show lined up tonight. Our main event has been changed a bit, due to Mark Youngblood fulfilling some booking obligations up in Canada. It will be the Bolshevik Revolution and the Iron Sheik taking on Bob Backlund, Chris Youngblood and a mystery partner. Schiavone: Should be interesting to see how that transpires. We will also be hearing from the United States Champion Magnum TA. But first fans, we want to show you footage from the Press Conference earlier this week. Crockett: That's right Tony, my brother Jim put this historic press conference together to officially welcome one of UK's best, Tony St. Clair. Lets take you to it. Press Conference Jim Crockett: After negotiating for over a year, the NWA, Crockett Promotions and Mid Atlantic are pleased to announce the official signing of the longest reigning British Heavyweight Champion in history. Please welcome Tony St. Clair. Tony heads up to the podium, grabs a pen and signs the contract. Tony and Jim shake hands. Jim tells him the time is his. Tony: Thank you very much Mr. Crockett. It has been a dream of mine to come here to the United States and wrestle the very best competition in the world. A commotion starts in the crowd. Walking through the crowd is Billy Robinson! Billy heads up to the podium. Tony offers his hand but Billy slaps it away. Jim Crockett stands up. Billy: This whole charade is making me sick! You give this man the red carpet treatment. You hype up his arrival for weeks! Then you give him his very own press conference. Why? Everybody knows that I'm the greatest wrestler to come out of the UK. So I sign with Mid Atlantic and what do I get? Not a dahm thing! Nothing! Jim: Look Mr. Robinson, Crockett Promotions is extremely happy to have you here but this is Tony's time. Why don't we talk about this after the press conference. Tony: Billy, You know I have the utmost respect for you. If you want to have a match with me, it would be my pleasure. Billy: Pleasure, is the last word I would use to describe a match with me. Billy decks Tony then grabs his head and slams it on the table. Jim tries to intervene but gets pushed aside by Billy. Billy grabs Tony and body slams him unto the table. Security runs up and holds Billy back. Live in the Studio Crockett: I know that Billy Robinson has been fined for his despicable actions and my brother is thinking about laying a suspension down on him. Tony was banged up bit but will be in action soon. Schiavone: I found it hard to believe that a class act like Billy Robinson would do something so low. Fans, we will keep you posted. Right now lets go to the ring. Rocky Johnson vs. Tim Straw Rocky shuffles his feet as he nails Straw with a series of punches. Rocky has the fans on their feet as he swings Straw to the ropes and hits him with a high drop kick. Johnson follows with a body slam then puts Straw in the Boston Crab for the victory! Commercial Break The Stud Stable (Ron and Rob Fuller with Jimmy Golden) are at the podium Schiavone: Fans with me right now are the new United States Tag Team Champions, the Stud Stable. Congratulations gentlemen, I have to say, some unusual methods in winning the titles. Ron: Mr. Schiavone, the Fullers are business men and our contract was perfectly legal. Now, the contract states that any two members of the Stud Stable can defend these titles. Rob: That's right brother. Look now, the Stud Stable are gonna be fight'n champions and we're going to prove that today. Jimmy: You said it Rob. We whipped the Loser Patrol in Greensboro to win these and today out of the kindness of our hearts we're gonna give back. Tell them Ron. Ron: Yes, well Mr. Schiavone, you know I don't wrestle on TV so tonight Rob and Jimmy will wrestle not 1 not 2 but 3 top ranking tag teams. And if any one of those top rank teams score a win then we will give them a US tag team title shot. Schiavone: Ok fans, there you have it, the Stud Stable will be wrestling in 3 matches later on tonight and if a team wins then they will get a shot at the titles. Lets go to the ring for our next bout. Brett Sawyer vs. Lou Simms Bret takes Lou down with a series of standing drop kicks. Bret suplexes Lou back then climbs to the top rope. Bret jumps off and hits a flying leg drop for the pin! Bret heads over to the podium. Crockett: Well Brett, you've had some problems with Johnny Rich recently. You even tried to get your hands on him in Greensboro but it didn't look like he wanted anything to do with you. Sawyer: Johnny proved he's nothing but a coward. He jumps me a few weeks ago and busts my head open. I haven't forgotten that and I'm looking for some payback. If he wants to continue the Rich, Sawyer feud then buddy, anytime and anyplace! Crockett: I think a war has started. Fans, back to the ring. Kiniski Brothers vs. Clyde Putnam and Bill Richards Kiniski's look sharp tonight with some quick tags and solid teamwork. Kelly hits Putnam with an inverted atomic drop and Nick hoists Putnam back with a belly to back suplex to get the pin! Commercial Break Schiavone: Fans with me right now is the United States Champion, Magnum TA. Magnum, you have been nothing short of a dominate champion. Now it's official. You will be defending your title against Ric Flair at the Battle of the Belts on Feb. 22nd. Magnum: Well it's no secret that I've been going head to head with the Horsemen and it should be only fitting that Ric Flair is next. The crowd makes some noise when Ric Flair walks out in one of his tailor made suits. Flair walks right up and gets in Magnum's face. Flair: WHOOO! You know Schiavone, I took time out from tearing it up in Texas and flew here in my private jet to speak with the so called US champ face to face. Now listen up punk! You heard the announcement and your days are numbered. I just gave Mil Mascaras and the Funk brothers wrestling lessons they wont ever forget and pal, you're next! Magnum smirks and looks down. Flair gives him a little slap to the face. Flair: Look at me when I'm talking to you boy! Now I've held the gold and you all are wondering why I'm going for the silver. It's real simple. When I beat this punk for the US title, the NWA will have no choice but to give me my world title rematch. Flair gives Magnum another slap. Flair: You hear me boy! Magnum socks Flair then starts ripping his suit off! Magnum is dragging Flair around as the fans are going crazy! Tully Blanchard and the Andersons run out and attack Magnum. They punch him down and hold his arms. Flair regroups and slaps Magnum. Then slaps him again. Flair: The 4 Horsemen are as united as ever and your US title is mine! Flair slaps him again then Tully and the Andersons take a few more shots then throw Magnum to the ground. Commercial Break Schiavone: Ok fans, Magnum was helped out of here. It looks like the 4 Horsemen are back to their old ways. I wouldn't want to be Ric Flair on the 22nd, that's for sure. Lets go to the ring. Fabulous Blondes w/Rock Riddle vs. Gary Williams and Brad Kimber The Blondes are looking confident coming off the post match beating they put on the Nightmares last week. Art Crews hits a few shoulder tackles then tags in Ken Timbs. Timbs works over Williams with some high knees then tags in Crews. They both drop Williams with a double front facelock drop for the pin! Riddle runs in and pushes the Ref away then raises his team's hands in victory. Riddle is smiling and yells "Where are the Nightmares?" Him and the Blondes laugh as the fans boo. Crockett: A very confident agency but we'll see if that remains when the Nightmares return to action. Fans my guest at this time, Bob Roop. Bob, you get your TV title match against Terry Taylor next week. Roop: Look you saw what happened in Greensboro. Taylor doesn't have the right temperament to be a champion. His temper was the reason he lost our match. You're looking at a wrestler who can control himself. A wrestler who knows exactly where he is in the ring. Next week the title will finally be around the waist of a real wrestler and that's Bob Roop! Crockett: Ok, television title match next week, Terry Taylor vs. Bob Roop. Back to the ring. David Sammartino vs. Aaron Arbuckle Sammartino slams Arbuckle down and chokes him with his boot. Sammartino picks Arbuckle up in a bearhug then rams him into the turnbuckles. It was a great win and from now on you and everybody else will refer to me as the Great One David Sammartino. Just ask Pedro Morales how great I am. I put that old timer out to pasture in Greensboro and I'll do the same to anybody else who wants to try me! They head to the ring. Sheik is waving the Iranian flag around as the fans boo. Backlund and Youngblood come out and wait. Then Corporal Kirchner comes out!! He stands beside them, waving the American flag as the fans cheer. Kirchner, Backlund and Youngblood charge the ring and all 6 men brawl. The Ref lets them go for awhile. Finally the Ref gets control. The match goes back and forth with all the men getting their moments. Kirchner is wailing away on Von Raschke when Smirnoff runs in which causes chaos. 4. Man that Feb. 22nd card is stacked! Love the "flying elephant' comment LOL. The RPM's put up a valiant fight but take a heartbreaking loss. Brody/Invader 3 was a special TV match for the fans. Madril and Chicky were quite the pair. Wow Ric Flair and Carlos Colon on TV, that's awesome!
  5. Another round of great shows. Man, even though I knew it was coming, it was still sad to see. Just a reminder of what could of been. Gino went way to soon but he certainly made the most of his time. Hogan and Hansen have been tearing it up. Cant wait for their SNME showdown. Some interesting scenarios going on. First with Hennig as Heenan says he'll be in his corner next week. Then with the Harts and their upcoming match with Valentine and Honkeytonk. The next SNME should be a good one. WrestleMania season is in full swing!
  6. MID-ATLANTIC CHAMPIONS United States Champion- Ted Dibiase Mid Atlantic Champion- Paul Orndorff United States Tag Team Champions- Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez Television Champion- Tony St. Clair
  7. WOW! Terry Gordy wasn't playing around! That was one dominant squash. Gino Brito looks like he might have earned himself a title shot with that win over Tonga. Charland and Poisson score a huge win over the Freebirds in Atlanta. Fun show, I'm sure Lutte will be back in the Omni.
  8. Good grief that was one strong card. The main event was crazy! I loved that finish! I'm sure the crowd was really into the Mando/Furnas match. Cactus Jack gets a big win over Sawyer. Scorpio keeps moving up the ranks. And hey how about the Youngbloods pulling off an upset over the Onyx Express.
  9. Great way to kick off the new format. Gordy and Armand should be a good one. Martel is becoming quite the fighting champion. The Fantastics are becoming real crowd pleasers. I like seeing Mr. Electricity getting some shine. Adonis retains in the ultimate heel way. Lots of great stuff being set up in Lutte.
  10. Fun hard hitting card. The Guerreros /British Bullies match would of been awesome to see. Oh man looks like it's on between Sarge and Blackwell/Patera. I think Sarge and the Dream have some common enemies which will make for one epic feud. Crazy ending to the Bock/Adams match. I could just imagine Bock piledriving a green faced Adams. I'm loving these AWA house shows!
  11. Another strong card! Scorpio is getting some good wins. The Mando/Rougeau match is a classic. Man Ricky Steamboat and Dan Spivey are putting together some really good matches. Cant wait for the Steamboat/Orndorff match. Speaking of Orndorff, he got by the Dream tonight, with a little help. I'm sure Dream is going to be after Patera. I liked the close circuit part. Nice partnership with Lutte. The talents from both territories really mesh well together.
  12. Loved the contract on a pole match. Armand gets the title shot! I liked the close circuit deal with the AWA. The card at the Omni is shaping up to be something special.
  13. Cornette was in top form tonight but he better be careful and not get in JYD's path. UWF has some serious heel factions going with Wright's army, the Nation and the Russians. The Long Riders and Southern Boys will no doubt produce some great matches. Lawler, Rich and Valiant are the perfect faces in Mid South. Looking forward to the Luger/Reed match.
  14. I really liked this show and the momentum of your storylines. Great set up with Sullivan getting frustrated with his guys then getting pinned by Scorpio. Huge win for Scorpio! Love the Blackwell/Patera team, so glad they're back together. Larry Z better watch himself. Playboy After Dark shows they will do anything to hang on to the titles. That was a fun TV main event.
  15. Another outstanding card! Terry Funk kissing Precious is hilarious. I don't know who got it worse LOL, Garvin who saw him do that or Embry getting hit with the branding iron. This was defiantly the Funk's night. Dr. D wins the Texas Championship in a huge way. Studd also gets a huge win over Brody in the cage.
  16. MACW puts Cpl. Kirchner on the trade block. I'm looking for a mid card baby face.
  17. Wow! Those are some stacked cards! I'm loving these Rumble matches. A No DQ Blood elimination match! Ok I'm sold.

Roop picks up Taylor, swings him into the turnbuckles and follows with a forearm smash to the head. Roop gets frustrated as Taylor keeps kicking out of the pin attempts. Roop is frustrated and chokes away on Taylor breaking at the Ref's count of 4. Roop chokes away again. This seems to fire Taylor up as he punches away on Roop. They trade punches and Taylor gets the upper hand. Taylor swings Roop into the turnbuckles. Taylor runs up and just starts hammering away on Roop with fists. The Ref tries to break it up. Taylor accidently back elbows the ref. The ref stumbles back then signals for the bell. Terry Taylor is Disqualified, so Bob Roop will get his TV title match in 2 weeks on WTBS. Now my brother Rob is up in Canada fulfilling some booking obligations. Because a Fuller always fulfills his obligations. I have here in my hand an official contract which states that the Stud Stable will be represented. Now on this paper are the names of the members of the Stud Stable and any member of the Stud Stable can wrestle in any match that the Stud Stable is advertised in. Oh it's all legal like and has been approved by a Crockett Lawyer. So let me introduce my partner tonight and member of the Stud Stable, Mr. Jimmy Golden! 19. Couple of great cards here. I like the big baby face push Tommy Rich is getting. Ultimate Warrior picks up a strong win. The Nation/Wahoo, JYD match was a good one and that feud is far from over. Really like the Armstrongs/Midnight Express program. The Russians and Road Warriors are getting into a real power feud. Good little heel move by Slater to insure a victory. Looking forward to more Dr. Death/Duggan matches. This is a true Mid South headlining feud.
  20. I'm the same way. Certain territories weren't shown on TV in my area. Thank goodness for PWI as I got to read all about them. Then came Youtube and now I get the chance to see all this good stuff from the 80s that I read about. Gordi is right, a couple years ago I watched those Colon/Hansen matches and man it was insane. Also if anyone wants a good perspective of Japanese wrestling, check out the Tiger Jeet Singh documentary on Youtube. His son talks about the respect the Japanese fans have for the wrestlers and understands why his father spent a lot of time there.
  21. Oh man what kind of deal did Embry make??? I don't think he wants to mess with the Funks. Looking forward to the Studd/Brody rematch, that's sure to be a wild one. Same goes for Dr. D and Garvin. Lots of good angles being set up. I'm liking the Dream Team/Moondogs program. Also like Dutch Mantel calling out Idol. Man so much good stuff happening in WCCW!
  22. MACW @ WTBS Studios TV aired on 1-24-86 Schiavone: Hello again everybody and welcome to another edition of Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling, along with me is David Crockett. David, we have a number of matches in store tonight and we will hear from a lot of the wrestlers who will be in Greensboro this Saturday night. Of course headlining that event will be Ric Flair taking on the legendary Mil Mascaras. Not to mention, the NWA Tag Team titles will be on the line as the Andersons will do battle with the Freebirds. Crockett: A lot happening indeed. And don't forget our main event tonight will the Nightmares squaring off against Rock Riddle's Agency's tag team, the Fabulous Blondes. Speaking of tag teams, the finals of the US Tag Team Tournament are set as the Stud Stable will face the Soul Patrol in Greensboro. Right now we would like to bring out the team who came up just short against the Soul Patrol. I'm talking about Mark and Chris Youngblood, the Renegade Warriors. The fans cheer as the Warriors head over. Crockett: Well guys, tough break in the tournament but I have to say I was very impressed with your performance. So where do you go from here? Mark: Well David, to be honest it was a heartbreaking loss but I just told my younger brother we have to keep our heads high. The Soul Patrol were the better team that night but the Renegade Warriors can guarantee everybody one thing, we'll be back in the hunt and... The Bolshevik Revolution storm out and attack the Warriors. They start pounding on them and throw them towards the ring. The Iron Sheik comes out and helps with the beating. The fans cheer as Bob Backlund comes out and starts hammering the Sheik with fists. The Warriors start to make a comeback as the pier six brawl continues. Commercial Break Schiavone: Ok fans, order has been restored and I have been told that next week on TV, it will be Bob Backlund and the Renegade Warriors taking on the Bolshevik Revolution and the Iron Sheik. That should be a good one. Fans, lets go to the ring. Spike Huber vs. Gary Williams Huber takes off his construction helmet and Charlotte O's Baseball jersey and is set for action. Huber takes Williams over with a series of hip tosses then puts him down with a high drop kick. Huber swings Williams to the ropes and hits him with a Power Slam for the pin! The Missing Link comes out with Paul Jones and is circling the ring. Huber has his fists up and is telling him to get into the ring. Link hops up on the apron but Jones gets him down and escorts him to the back. Crockett: Well it looks like Paul Jones wasn't ready for the confrontation with Spike Huber. Fans with me right now is the Mid Atlantic Champ, Harley Race. Race: David Crockett, you and all of these fans are looking at the greatest wrestler in the sport today. Rocky Johnson is going to find that out in Greensboro when I give him a wrestling lesson and use him as a stepping stone for bigger and better things and I'm talking about when I get my World Title shot with Rick Martel, if he ever stops ducking me. Back to you Johnson, you shot your mouth off and now your going to pay. I do need a tune up and right now I cant think of a better tune up match than with you. In Greensboro, this Mid Atlantic title stays right where it belongs...with me! Crockett: There you have if fans. Well back to the ring. 'Cowboy' Scott Casey vs. Lou Simms Casey looks good as his finishes Simms off with the running Bulldog for the pin! Commercial Break Schiavone: Fans I want to take you to some pre recorded comments from the Freebirds. Pre Recorded Comments Roberts: Andersons, we're coming to Greensboro to put you down and bring the NWA World tag titles back home to Bad Street! Bet on that, Jack! Hayes: Andersons, you're looking at the team that's ba ba ba bad to the ba ba ba bone! You say the wrecking crew is going to tear Bad Street down? Well boys, I've got news for you. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than you do sissy boys to get the job done. Boys you couldn't walk down Bad Street, let alone tear it down. Get ready Greensboro, cuz the Freebirds are coming to town and we're going to party down! Back in the Studio Schiavone: Ok, with me right now are the NWA World Tag team champions, Ole and Arn Anderson along with JJ Dillon. It sounds like the Freebirds are geared up and ready. Arn: Do we look scared Schiavone? Those long haired hippies are all glitz and zero on talent. You're looking at the best tag team in the NWA, that's why we're holding these titles. Bring it on Freebirds! Ole: Hey, those boys talk and talk and talk a good game but the difference between them and us is we can back it up. In Greensboro the Andersons are going to shut them up. That big mouth Hayes wont be talking after I punch him in the mouth. JJ: Now who looks geared up and ready Schiavone? Schiavone: Ok, strong words from both teams. Lets go to the ring. Tom Prichard w/Rock Riddle vs. Dave Penson Riddle walks around the ring with a huge smile as Prichard works over Penson. Prichard nails Penson with a super kick. Prichard picks up Penson and clamps on the Sleeper! The Ref rings the bell as Prichard swings Penson around and throws him down. Riddle comes in and raises Prichard's arm. Davidson's body flips over and Vines covers him for the pin! Paul Jones goes in and stands between the Duo and raises their arms high. He tells them something and the Duo hammers away on Ramsey then hurl him out of the ring. Crockett: Well Paul Jones certainly is bringing out the sheer aggression of the Devil's Duo. Mr. Jones will now be joining me along with his monster Kamala. Kamala walks around slapping his belly and making noises. Jones: I told you 1986 was going to be the year of Paul Jones's Army! Did you see my tag team, the Devil's Duo? Did you see the punishment they inflicted? Did you see Missing Link earlier? He couldn't wait to tear that punk Huber up. Now look at my monster, look at the Ugandan Giant Kamala! This beast is an unstoppable force! Jimmy Snuka, after the beating you get from Kamala in Greensboro, you will never be the same. Kamala is going to hurt you, destroy you and beat you down to nothing. Snuka, in Greensboro, you will be begging for your life! DeMarco's upper body snaps back off the top rope and Travis covers him for the pin! Schiavone: Big win for the young and energetic Hot Property. Please welcome my guest, Pedro Morales. Pedro, it's been signed for Greensboro, you and David Sammartino, one on one. Morales: You know Tony, I have to say I'm a little upset it had to come to this. I just don't know what's gotten into that kid. He's disrespected me and then he beat me up pretty bad last week. He's left me no choice. David, you got what you wanted, now we'll see if you can keep up with a veteran like me. Schiavone: Well I hope David Sammartino is happy with himself. Commercial Break Crockett: I just wanted to remind all our fans that this week my brother Jim will be hosting a special press conference with the longest reigning British Heavyweight Champion in history, Tony St. Clair. We will show you that press conference next week. Schiavone: Needless to say David, all of us here in Mid Atlantic and Crockett promotions are very excited to have Tony St. Clair coming in. I have an announcement as well. On February 22nd at the Eddie Graham Sports Arena in Orlando Florida, Mid Atlantic presents the Battle of the Belts card. More on that special event next week. Fans lets go to the ring as the Television champion is set for action. TV Champ Terry Taylor vs. Roger Murphy Taylor looks good as he hits Murphy with a gut wrench suplex. Taylor grabs Murphy's leg then drops an elbow on it. Taylor grabs the leg again and wraps Murphy up in the Sharpshooter! Murphy submits and the Ref rings the bell. Bob Roop runs into the ring and hits Taylor. Roop swings Taylor to the ropes but misses a clothesline attempt, Taylor swings off the ropes and comes back with a flying 5 Arm Smash that sends Roop through the ropes! 23. Man the fans in Chicago sure got their money's worth. Hogan/Hansen and Savage/Hernandez on the same card! Lot's of good stuff happening with KOTR and SNME coming up. I used to watch the matches in Oakland so I'm very happy to see SNME coming to town. Hogan/Hansen I'm sure will pull in some huge ratings.
  24. That was one stellar main event! I would of shelled out some money to watch that one. Oh man I'm sure hoping for a Mr. Electricity/Benoit title match. Intern 2 has been on a roll. Charland looking strong for his upcoming World Title match on TV.
  25. Wow! What a crazy brawl to end the show. All the feuds in one ring, that was insane! The announcers were at the top of their game tonight. I think if anybody needs a push, just put them on the Sports Shop with Chicky because he's that good. Bam Bam sure made a statement tonight. Madril might be a little to overconfident in his upcoming match with Ayala. I think you could have a gem of a feud with TNT and Singh. Feb. 22nd is shaping up to be an epic card.
