  1. If I'm still trolling this board when I'm 94... well then I guess you win.
  2. A Baron Corbin vs Fandango squash match has its own thread. I don't know whether to be ashamed or excited. I think I'm shamecited.

Agreed. But given the number of non-contract guys they'll be using, I wonder how much of it they'd do. Will they take the time to explain/show who Jack Gallagher is when he may only be around for one match? This is WWE afterall. The fact that they're evening ATTEMPTING this is to their credit, but at their core they are what they are. I can't imagine any of the guys being brought in from outside are going to be out it the 1st rounds I'd expect most of them getting similar treatment as Gargano and Ciampa did in the Dusty tag tourney I don't see them putting them ALL over the in-house talent. My expectation is that the outside guys will be pairing up against each other in early rounds. Either way, the amount of non-match exposure they give any of them will be the interesting thing.

Makes me wonder how the GCS will be presented. Got the impression it was gonna be it's own show., like maybe an hour a week for however many episodes it takes. If so, I'm curious if they'll do some background stuff on the guys or just throw them out there and say "here are some matches" kinda like they did with the KOTR special last year.

Same here, LOL. But what was with the abysmal commentary in the main event, with both of the commentators being against Samson? Especially Graves with his JBL-levels of burying. Just brutally bad commentary and a complete distraction during the match. I usually love Phillips and Graves together, but not during the Swagsuke/Drifter match. In Graves' defense, he's not playing 100% heel. Instead he plays favorites (with heel leanings). He's been anti-Drifter from the start in large part because they're both billed from Pittsburgh and Graves is embarassed to be associated with such a ragtag dude, which feels right given Graves' character. He was probably a little overboard last night, but at least it was in the direction of staying consistent.

Corey Graves repeatedly referring to jobbers as "jamokes" is my new favorite thing.
  11. Dumb stat thing that I find amusing to this point: Curt Hennig currently has the smallest difference between his avg ranking and his actual ranking at 0.05. Which means as far as the GWE voters go his ranking was, you guessed it, Perfect.

Thought the same thing. And Jordan ain't much bigger than him. I wonder if it's because they're both smaller than I think or if maybe Enzo was never that tiny to begin with and it's just being paired with a legit 7 footer that did it.

RO-man REIGNS-sucks, clap clap clap-clap-clap. Okay, one more complaint about modern chants--95% of them use that SAMEdamnRHYthm. It was actually just a "RO-MAN SUCKS!" chant, if I remember correctly. It's destined to become the new "CM PUNK!" chant for when pockets of the crowd grow restless from actually having to follow a match.

Boston crowds may be different than Oklahoma City ones, but my friend last night said that during one match there was a Roman Reigns sucks chant followed shortly thereafter by a "We Sold Out" chant. The Roman Reigns sucks chant came kind of out of nowhere, so yes, it was dumb. The "We sold out" chant came on the heels of one of the ring announcer's "Thanks for selling out our first visit to Massachusetts!" between match bits, so it's really hard to hate on the crowd for that.

Depends on what you don't like about the NXT crowds. I'd say wrestling crowds in general today tend to force themselves upon the show a little too much for my liking. There were WAY too many attempts at chants last night. Even when they came up with a clever one (chanting "ARM-BAR!" along to the Angle theme while Gable had Dawson in an prolonged armbar was cute) they tend to ruin it right away (using the same chant later in the night when Joe had Balor in a wristlock, not an armbar). The percentage of chants that work to chants that are attempted is low. And they'll often start them up at times when the action is going good, which just distracts from the match. So yeah, if you absolutely HATE crowds that chant, I doubt you'll find too many live experiences that are to your liking. If you can get past that though, the NXT workers interacted very well with the audience. They played to the crowd alot and it was just an overall good time. You gotta take the good with the bad.

They had two digitial cameras taping all the matches, I assume for training purposes. They had a bigger live feed camera that they used for the entrances in order to project them on the Tron. I *think* they had it in use during the main event as well, although it wasn't projecting the match live on the Tron.

Yeah, I'm still a mark... FOR SAMOA JOE! Called it! Woohoo! For reals, that show was a blast though. Quick rundown: Mojo Rawley vs Riddick Moss. Mojo is fun live, but man he had to earn it tonight. Crowd was at best 50/50 for him at entrance. LOTS of boos. I wouldn't say he won them over, but by the end the boos had at least gone away. Moss looked decent. Has a good look, really cut. Seems to know how to work the crowd. Not sure about his movez yet, but a solid appearance. Bayley/Carmella vs Dana Brooke/Peyton Royce. Dear Lord Bayley is just so ridiculously good. Her work just standing on the apron was phenomenal tonight. There were some sloppy points but they held it together pretty well. Lots of crowd pleasing antics from both sides, so you could forgive the occasional mis-timed spot. Carmella's come a long way. Still not ready for the main roster by any stretch, but she's improved greatly since her debut. Tommaso Ciampa vs Chris Gerard. Sort of a local boy clash as they're both from the Boston area, although Tommaso was announced from Milwaukee. Match was what you'd expect from these two: lots of stiff shots and really intense matwork. Gerard grinds a chinlock like it's his life's work. Lots of "BIFF!" chants for him too. Nice to know he's recognized, but c'mon gang, accept the name change. It isn't going back anytime soon. Austin Aries vs Manny Andrade. Andrade is the artist formerly known as La Sombra. This was my first time seeing him in any fashion. He's got some flashy offense which looks good, although they didn't hit all of it clean. He attacks at high speed though so the sloppiness is forgiveable to me. Guy seems to have loads of charisma too. Aries was his usual solid self. He really needs to turn heel though. Crowd was pretty into both guys. Good house show match. Elias Samson vs Shinsuke Nakamura. Yeah, Nakamura was over HUGE. The match was a disappointment though. I wanted to see Nak squash The Drifter like a bug. So did the crowd. Lots of chants including a "KICK HIS HEAD OFF!" chant. They went pretty much 50/50 though and Samson's offense was 90% rest holds. He really needs to add something to his repetoire, because holding Nakamura in a keylock ain't gettin' it done. The kinshasa (sp?) looked like ass from my angle too. Nowhere close to hitting. Post intermission we got three straight title matches. American Alpha vs The Revival. Basically each team's greatest hits match with a couple of new well timed spots worked in. Wilder falling into the ring because he was leaning too far over the ropes and causing the ref to miss the AA hot tag was really well done. Good formula tag. Asuka vs Alexa Bliss. Really enjoyed this one as Asuka is impressive live. Her speed really stood out here. Bliss more than held her own though. This was probably the longest I've ever seen her go and she had enough credible offense to keep it interesting. Some nice limb work early that Asuka sold throughout, which was awesome. Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor. What can I say? I went in secretly hoping they'd pop a title change and they fucking did! The match was their usual affair with Joe adding in some heelish moves, including the eye rake along the ropes and a couple of back scratches (which he made sure to play up BIG). The injury angle was pretty convincing as Balor went for a double kick into the corner barrier off a running start (the irony of seeing Joe eat a variation of the Ole Kick was pretty fun) and from my angle it was an awkward collision. You could tell right away something was off, although the moment the ref threw the "X" up I started having my suspicions. Sure enough Balor rolled back in after being checked on by the trainer, hit a couple of double kicks on a still dazed Joe, then had his ankle buckle when he went up top for the Coup De Gras. Joe swooped in, hit the muscle buster, and I marked harder than the 8 year old next to me who was at his first wrestling show. Helluva moment to be there live for. Show was a joy to sit through. The matches moved along at a nice pace, everybody worked hard and made sure to interact alot with the audience, and there was just a general vibe of "I'm really happy to be here!" from everybody in the crowd. Great night of live entertainment. Super glad I went. Felt nice to be a mark again.
  23. Add me to the pile who voted for Han and not Tamura. Wasn't an active "he's better" choice. I just came to shootstyle too late and Han was the only guy I was able to assimilate in time to feel comfortable ranking. This is going to sound awful, but my knowledge of a lot of the Japanese wrestlers was pretty nill up until about a year ago when I learned of the GWE project and as a result alot of the names tended to run together. Trying to decide who to look into further when you're not sure whether they're a NJPW guy, an AJPW guy, a shootstyle guy, a Dragon Gate guy, hell, a Joshi gal... I mean it's hard to find a decent starting point. Han was an easy target for me because I had never heard of him before and his named popped out as something I felt like "I would have remembered that name. What did I miss?" It was the same with Jim Breaks. I dove into both of those guys first because their name was unique enough to get me moving in a direction whereas Tamura could have been some mid-card All Japan guy for all I knew. It sucks because I've started looking into more Tamura (and shootstyle in general) since my ballot went in and I think I'm probably more entertained by Tamura than Han at this stage. I think that's probably why I'm not really ever surprised by the rankings because I feel like they don't represent a "he's better than the guys that fell before him" result but rather a "he's highly regarded by the people who knew him" thing. The poll represents a collection of little opinions, not one big one.
  24. I say it could include everything. Hollywood, TV, Asian cinema, European, anything. That's the territories I guess. Is theater shoot style then??? Live theater is most definitely shoot-style.
  25. No, the Steiner-HHH match that preceded Angle-Benoit RR03 was a horrible match. I love the Benoit-Angle match. One of my all-time faves. I didn't post that list to try and convince people who hate Angle to change their mind. I posted it to answer the call from those who seem to think those of us who like him are pulling his career out of thin air. You don't have to agree that they're good matches. I'm not trying to change your minds. I'm just trying to get some acknowledgement that even though we may have a different take on the guy mine isn't built out of nothing.
