[1990-08-27-WWF-Summerslam] Ted DiBiase and Dusty Rhodes
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
It was Ted who was buying Sapphire all the jewelry! I honestly had no idea, so I was pretty shocked by this. I'm led to believe this is kind of the end of Sapphire, so that's too bad.- 20 replies

[1990-08-27-WWF-Summerslam] Mr Perfect vs Kerry Von Erich
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Good for Kerry. I like the Claw into the punch finish. Use the Claw to immobilize the person, then spin around for a hard shot to finish them off. Great response from the crowd too. -
[1990-08-27-WWF-Summerslam] The Rockers vs Power & Glory
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Shawn looks like he's limping coming down to the ring. And I just read above that he had a knee injury. Pretty smart match because of that. On a production note, something that WWF has always been so good at making the arenas feel big and packed. They always know the right angles to use and this really shows that off. I mean, there were 20,000 people in the arena apparently, so it is big and packed, but they get the shots. As for the match, essentially a squash, I was really hoping for what could have been a great comeback for Jannetty but it never came. The finishing move was really cool though, especially because Jannetty was kind of skipping across the mat a split second before whichever guy it was landed on him. -
[1990-08-26-NWA-Main Event] Midnight Express vs Rock & Roll Express
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
The vertical suplex that Eaton does where he kind of turns a 180 mid air is so cool. He does it to varying degrees in a lot of matches. It's great. I was really surprised when this ended so quickly. My least favorite of their matches this year. -
[1990-08-25-USWA-Memphis TV] Jeff Gaylord and Downtown Bruno

Again, I'm left wondering what happened to the Kowabunga feud. -
[1990-08-25-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Four Horsemen
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Just what I want to hear. Flair wants Sting? He's got to get through Luger first. -
[1990-08-24-NWA-Power Hour] Louisville Slugger: Ric Flair
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
I'm still excited to watch a match and a show that I've seen two times before but have no memory of, I like hearing Flair talk about Luger and the US Title. Feels like he's got to move down the card to re-establish himself. That's not the case, but still... -
Man, this was rough for me. Owen is 0 for the year so far for me. Like the last one, the handheld hurts the match a bit, but really, this just didn't feel like a match at all. It felt like a feats of strength, but no strength. Just two men kind of feeling each other out for a very long time. I don't know how long this thing was, it felt like a half an hour at least.

[1990-08-25-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Hulk Hogan & Big Boss Man
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
So Tugboat is out, and Boss Man is in. This doesn't change the DiBiase stuff I'm hoping? Is that at Summer Slam? It really bugs me that Hogan says the Boss Man is "the biggest Hulkamaniac" or whatever he says. It really makes them unequal.- 12 replies

[1990-08-19-NWA-Main Event] Danger Zone: Ric Flair & Sting
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Ric Flair sports a Little Lord Fauntleroy hair cut. I really wish they would have done a rematch series on PPV instead of the Black Scorpion stuff. I guess you couldn't have Sting beat Flair 3 matches straight but I really think that could have been a great trilogy if the planets aligned. -
[1990-08-25-USWA-Memphis TV] Eddie Gilbert vs Cowabunga
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Kowabunga wears Doug Gilbert's wig at the end, and the faces help him out of the ring. Totally ridiculous. I'm thankful we got a match on here, but I'm curious what happened with Jeff Gaylord, wasn't that the feud? -
[1990-08-25-WWF-Superstars] Summerslam Report w/Gene Okerlund
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
This is a cool way to sell the ppv, with promos and run downs for all the matches. Like everyone else, really disappointed we didn't get Martel vs. Santana. Surely that would have been something great. I said it before but I'm very happy I can hear these WWF segments now. -
I've got a couple of questions if anyone ever reads this and can answer 1. My understanding is that there's a team captain. How does the viewer know who the captain is? Do they always start the match? Are they listed first during the intros? 2. To win a fall, I thought it was either pin both guys who aren't the captain, or pin the captain, but the first two falls end by all 3 men being pinned. Was that necessary or just part of the show of this match? I was mostly focusing on El Dandy here since he's the first guy I've connected with, and this was really good and a different than the mat based match earlier. I'm learning to appreciate the cooperation and smoothness of sequences in the matches.

Were him and the boy doing soccer moves in the street? Is this a bad guy too? I keep reading his name as "Massacra" as in the Hellhammer song. Totally sick.

I dug this a lot. Good poses, good flexes, decent striation and vascularity, can't complain.

I'm with everyone else, I'm wanting to see a six man cage match. That would have to be wild.

[1990-08-19-NWA-Main Event] Lex Luger vs Arn Anderson
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Good tv match. I'm an idiot, and even I knew how this was going to end, but I'm never going to complain about Lex and Arn wrestling on television. -
The finish of this was so great. After a rough beating, it's just screaming Lariats that finally take the big man down.

Liger is having a great year. This was another winner. Aways cool to see Benoit young, becaise he's already very good, but doesn't have the attitude or viciousness yet. The ending didn't really look sloppy to me, just looked kind of brutal, so it didn't bother me. Not quite at the level of the other great Liger matches this year, but just super solid and very good.

[1990-08-19-AJW-Survival Shout in Korakuen] Manami Toyota vs Akira Hokuto
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in August 1990
Hmm, I'm really liking Toyota so far this year, and I've read complaints about her for future stuff, so I'll see when I get there what I think. As for Hokuto's selling, there's definitely times during the finishing stretch where she'll favor her knee or grab it when getting up or something, so I wouldn't say it was completely ignored, so really, it didn't bother me too much.- 12 replies

This was a big disconnect for me. It just felt very long and I couldn't follow the match. Granted, it was the middle of the night when I watched this, and I was taking care of a newborn, so maybe I didn't give it the attention it deserves. It was strange, because as unfamiliar as I am with joshi, Aja Kong and Bull are two that I've actually seen some footage of, so this is one I need to re-watch. I did enjoy some of their interactions though, and it felt like the setup to a big singles match, so we'll see.

I was getting fired up by this heel Terry Taylor promo, but it looks like it won't lead to anything.
