The promos alone for MJF vs Cody will be epic.

Mind you that I have only seen tidbits of the show via Twitter GIFs and stuff like that but I was back home last night during the main event of Full Gear and by what I was reading from the feedback, the impression that I got is that Moxley really wanted to make that drastic separation from Dean Ambrose in WWE and revert fully back to the ultraviolent Jon Moxley of CZW days. It almost felt to me like Mox wanted to tell WWE: "Yo, guys, you held me back for so long so this is all the shit that I wanted to do forever and now I can do it"...I don't blame some people for feeling uncomfortable about that match. I've seen stuff that was much less violent than what Mox vs Omega seemed to be last night and I had that sinking feeling in my stomach that I didn't like where I saw kids cry hysterically and people leave the venue right in the middle of the match. This is something that AEW will really have to be careful about. You can't have another Lights Out Match in a short span after this one at Full Gear. I would legit wait about a year before doing another one.

Indeed, context and intent is everything. To go back to the use of the word "fuck", here in Quebec, in the French language, the word "fuck" is rather harmless because it's a word we commonly use to avoid using curse words in a more socially acceptable circumstance. Also we use "fucké" to describe something, someone or a situation that is crazy. Of course, it never hurts to know the specific context in which you are immersed before using a certain word.

My God, that Jim Cornette segment was everything and then some. Always my favorite part of your shows! :p
-
Not really. I mean...Omega has been nicknamed "The Cleaner" for so long, it just seemed normal to me.
-
Apparently, it won't be Cody vs Jericho to close the show but the Lights Out Match between Mox and Omega. Strange but I guess something major must happen to justify putting this one in the main event slot.
-
I was unfortunately too young to witness this rivalry but it has seemingly stood the test of time in terms of intensity and hatred. And of course, it gave us the once Holy Grailed Last Battle of Atlanta, which became the inspiration for the likes of Hell in a Cell and War Games. For those who have witnessed this, what are your highlights and thoughts about this rivalry?
-
After Dynamite last night, that sure sounds like Spears vs Janela is happening. Although I'm expecting this to be in the Buy-In.
-
That'd be interesting if Jericho played the card of protesting MJF's nomination, considering he's close friends with Cody. Would make the turn even more shocking in kayfabe.
-
Realistically, do you guys feel like whatever way they go in the main event between Cody and Chris Jericho, that it will be a generally accepted decision? That's the way I personally see it because 1) Chris Jericho is technically their biggest name and draw on the roster and he's doing great as champ so far and 2) Cody is so over right now at the moment - perhaps the most over babyface in pro wrestling? - and it would feel logical to put the title on him right now while building the man who'll take the title from him. With that said, what I'm really looking forward to is to know the identity of the 3 judges at ringside for the match. I'm hoping for a bit of a throwback to Wrestlewar 89 that lead us to Flair vs Funk.

It depends. Maybe if they use her to cost Mia Yim the match next week to determine the War Games advantage and then she's announced as the final member of the team, this could work. But the story is there; Dakota wants to prove she should be in War Games; only she ends up being in the team we thought she'd fight against.

Mid-South TV Continuity Question (August 1985)
SirEdger replied to paul sosnowski's topic in Pro Wrestling
That still had to be confusing though. I mean, for people in Tulsa, episode #XXX is different from the same episode in New Orleans for instance. That had to be some logistics gymnastics for house show loops and such as well. -
Also....as Tony Schiavone said at the start of the interview, Cody's born in Charlotte. So it definitely helped as well.
-
I'm a bit surprised they're going ahead with Riho vs Emi Sakura for Full Gear. I thought they'd be going for Riho vs Hikaru Shida instead. I guess this confirms that Riho retains at Full Gear.

Exactly this. Jinder's push came out of the blue because WWE wanted to sweep the rug from under the legs of Impact Wrestling, who just had a breakthrough in the Indian market - and having Sonjay Dutt winning the X-Division there to much fanfare. Sonjay's win had great significance, considering how long he had been working with the promotion without actually winning the title. 6 weeks before Jinder won the WWE title, he was jobbing to Finn Balor in about 5 minutes. In itself, Jinder would've met less resistance as a champ if it had happened progressively. He should've been US champion before being WWE Champion.

I'll never take away his work ethic, that's for sure. But like I said many times, getting in Twitter fights with workers from rival promotions will not endear you in the slightest way towards wrestling fans. And eventually, his co-workers if he happens to put his foot in his mouth. Obviously, it seems like he was right to have a gripe about Meltzer's reporting and good for him to call him out and everything but still, it's like Seth is sometimes waiting for the slightest occasion to pick a fight with someone over his work or the WWE product in general.

I was a nerd in school and even I would've never stooped to that level. Looks like Seth has become that guy indeed.

Events for October 26th, 27th & 28th, 1984 Atlantic Coast Championship Wrestling TV, October 26th, 1984 Sportatorium, Tampa, FL -AWA Atlantic Coast TV Champion Mike Davis beat Lavern Huxtable in 14:43 in a non-title match. -We're set for an interview between Bob Caudle, David Crockett and the House of Humperdink. Conspicuous by his absence is Abdullah the Butcher. Humperdink is asked what is going on and why is he out of the picture. Humperdink says that Abdullah has been out of control lately in various matches and outside the ring and something needed to be done. Humperdink says he wants to take control of this territory but he doesn't wanna risk getting killed in the process. Therefore, Humperdink banished Abdullah from his House. Humperdink says he isn't done yet and he needs to settle another thing as well. Humperdink turns to Konga and tells him that he caused more problems than impact since he was brought in. Humperdink believes Konga is also part of the problem and tells him his services are no longer required. Konga doesn't take it too well and slaps Humperdink! All hell breaks loose as Konga is able to fight back Sullivan, the Great Kabuki & The Purple Haze before putting the boots to Humperdink and leave. Will there be anything left of the House of Humperdink before the end of the year? -Then, Bob Caudle and David Crockett welcome the newest addition to the Atlantic Coast roster, Jimmy Golden and Robert Fuller, aka the Stud Stable. Jimmy Golden says that obviously, Eddie Graham must've gotten wind of what they were doing with Continental because Fuller is getting a title shot against Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Champion Tony Atlas on Sunday night and he can already feel himself becoming champion right now. Fuller adds that they're ready to make this territory their own sandbox and make sure everyone knows who they are. They are as formidable as individuals than they are as a tag team and it won't take too long for anyone to find that out. -Up next, it's an interview with the Rock N' Roll RPMs. Despite being the current Atlantic Coast TV Champion, Mike Davis is still committed to the success of the Rock N' Roll RPMs and he's got Tommy Lane's back just like Lane has his. During the interview, Bob Caudle announces that Atlantic Coast is coming to Charlotte on Saturday November 9 and there will be special guests like Buddy Rose and the team of Tommy Gilbert & Ricky Gibson. But on that card, Tommy Lane will go one-on-one with Gino Hernandez. Lane is pretty excited about this opportunity and he wants to make a good impression as well. Lane wants to prove that he can be as successful as Mike Davis in singles and if he can beat Gino in this match, this will go a long way in doing that. -In the feature match, Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions Bill White & Johnny Weaver and their partner Randy Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) beat the team of Stampede Rush & Kevin Kelly in 8:43 after an elbow drop from Savage on Kelly. But the story is that Gino Hernandez made his way to the ring to attack Savage afterwards. While Stampede Rush was taking care of the champs, Gino Hernandez blew a kiss to Liz before piledriving Savage on the concrete floor of the Sportatorium! The show ended with a distraght Liz checking on Savage as he was stretchered out of the Sportatorium! *** October 26th, 1984 Fort Homer W. Hestorly Armory, Tampa, FL -Hubert Gallant (subbing for Randy Savage, injured) beat John Bonello in 12:55 -The Stud Stable beat AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions Bill White & Johnny Weaver by countout in 4:30 in a non-title match when "No Class" Bobby Bass attacked Johnny Weaver, causing him to be counted out. -Duke Myers fought The Junkyard Dog to a double DQ at 22:50. Postmatch, JYD proceeded to a buttwhooping using his chain on Myers! 6-Men Tag Team Elimination Match: The House of Humperdink (Kevin Sullivan, The Great Kabuki & Purple Haze) beat The Rock N' Roll RPM & "No Class" Bobby Bass in 15:07. Postmatch, Sullivan cuts a promo about how tomorrow night in Miami, he wants to throw someone down the Iron Bridge of Hell tomorrow night. He says whoever in the AWA is man enough to do so can tell him by the end of the night... -Don Kernodle & Mike Graham upset The Brisco Brothers in 1:58 after Graham pinned Florida Heavyweight Champion Jerry Brisco, reversing a small package that Jerry had tried to leverage with a handful of tights! 6-Men Tag, Atlantic Coast vs AWA All-Stars: Atlantic Coast's newest acquisition The Masked Superstar, Rocky Kernodle & Khruscher Khruschev beat The French Revolution & Bob Sweetan in 9:17. After the match, despite the loss, Bob Sweetan took the mic and told Kevin Sullivan that he can stop looking because he has found his man. They'll see each other on the Iron Bridge of Hell tomorrow night. Guest Referee - Eddie Graham: Andre the Giant beat Eddie Gilbert in 10:08 *** October 27th, 1984 Miami, FL -Jimmy Golden beat AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White in 9:25 -Gino Hernandez & Rocky Kernodle beat Eddie Gilbert & Junkyard Dog in 18:20, following interference from Khruscher Khruschev. After the match, Eddie Graham comes out, seeing that Gino was about to do the same thing he did to Randy Savage at the Sportatorium this week and orders a rematch later in the show between both teams! -Mike Graham beat Scott Casey in 7:24 AWA Florida Heavyweight Championship Falls Count Anywhere: Jerry Brisco beat The Masked Superstar in 11:04 to retain -The Junkyard Dog & Eddie Gilbert beat Rocky Kernodle & Gino Hernandez (w/Khruscher Khruschev) by countout in 15:21 following an appearance from Randy Savage in a neckbrace, who came out to chase away Gino from the ring. Groundhog Day for Savage it seems....and Gino! AWA Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship: Robert Fuller beat Tony Atlas in 14:04 to win the title after Jimmy Golden struck Tony Atlas in the back with a crutch that he used from a a fan sitting at ringside!!! Iron Bridge of Hell Scaffold Match: Kevin Sullivan beat Bob Sweetan in 16:02 *** October 28th, 1984 Orlando, FL -"No Class" Bobby Bass upsets AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Johnny Weaver. Weaver was seemingly upset and Bill White tried to calm him down. -Scott Casey beat King Tonga by DQ after Tonga refused to let go of the Tongan Death Grip after Casey grabbed the rope. Postmatch, Johnny Mantell tries to stop Tonga but Richard Charland runs in and attacks Mantell. Are we seeing an alliance between King Tonga and Richard Charland? AWA Florida Heavyweight Championship, No DQ Match - per order of Eddie Graham, the title can also change tonight if Jerry Brisco gets counted out on purpose: Jerry Brisco beat Boomer Lynch....by countout to retain. -Gino Hernandez & Richard Charland beat Jose Luis Rivera and Griffin Brewster after Gino beat Rivera with a piledriver -The Masked Superstar beat Mike Graham -Andre the Giant beat AWA Atlantic Coast TV Champion Mike Davis in a non-title match -Atlantic Coast's newest signing The Dynamite Kid (w/Davey Boy Smith) beat AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White. During the match, Johnny Weaver ran in, trying to hit Dynamite Kid with his title belt but he was stopped by Davey Boy Smith. Weaver tried to talk his way out of a confrontation, allowing Dynamite Kid to get the victory with a snap suplex, followed by a diving headbutt. Weaver didn't do much effort, postmatch, to help out his tag team champion partner while the British Bulldogs celebrated their first night with Atlantic Coast!

I bet the Golden State Tag title match stole the show in Portland. Definitely keeping my eye on Hito & Fuchi. They got the potential to be a dangerous team if they get their hands on the Guerreros titles.

Charlotte has been so hit-or-miss lately. I mean...in big matches on grand stages, she kills it all the time. But put her on TV to build PPV matches and she's on auto-pilot every time. For instance, she constantly overshoot her moonsault. It's one thing to overshoot it for one person but last night, she successfully overshot it with TWO opponents. With the amplitude she has on that moonsault, she shouldn't miss it this frequently. I was expecting Lita, at her peak, to overshoot it most times because of the angle she did it but with someone who's been so highly touted about her skills in-house, that shouldn't happen.

WWE Presents Crown Jewel: Halloween Pumpkin Spice Edition
SirEdger replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Now imagine tonight if the continued NXT invasion leads to the Undisputed Era destroying Seth Rollins in a middle of a speech. That crowd will eat him alive. At this stage, it might get worse than what Cena and Roman got for a treatment. Roman has always been a team player but never stooped to the corporate stooge level Rollins has been lately.
