I agree here. Not all WWE cast-offs that AEW can pick needs to be positioned at the top of the card. The key thing is that if they are good hands to work with, use them as such. Sometimes they'll be in key angles, sometimes not. I don't think any prospective signings believe that they'll be contending for the AEW World title at the end of the day.

Great debut for Continental! Loved Madril celebrating like he just became the World Heavyweight Champion. Great stuff! Can't wait for the Soul Patrol to kick ass and take names!

Yeah, well, I wanted my territory to stand out from the others - as every territory in the game does with the great writers we have - and I felt this was the best way for me to do so. The good ol' gunslinger mentality

Events for July 6, 7 & 8, 1984 Atlantic Coast TV, July 6th, 1984 -Rocky "The Best Kernodle" beat Steve Diblasio in 7:26 -Footage of last Monday's show in Orlando is shown of the opener between Bob Dellaserra and Bill White where the match ended in a double DQ and White piledrove Dellaserra on the floor. Eddie Graham says he's considering stripping White & Weaver of their titles, or at the very least, stripping White of his half of the title. But he wants White to explain himself first. White and Weaver come out and White apologize for his behavior. White says that of all the tag team champions in the AWA, he and Weaver are most overlooked, despite Weaver also being the Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Champion. They don't want to be treated like charity cases at the twilight of their career. White says they might have only one chance to face and beat the Road Warriors for the AWA World Tag Team Championship and they want to make the best of it. Eddie Graham says that White & Weaver will have that opportunity if they can remain champions until Sunday, July 28th when the Road Warriors will come to town in Miami to defend their titles. If they're still champs by then, they will face the Road Warriors for the AWA World Tag Team Championship. -The first ads for some special events in August are being run. Besides, he also wants to "protect" King Tonga because his protégé Angelo Mosca Jr is really mad about losing last night to Tonga in Miami and he wants "a fair fight". Steel Cage Match: Gino Hernandez beat King Tonga in 14:30 after Angelo Mosca Jr slams the cage door on Tonga's head, allowing Gino to escape. Postmatch, Tonga completely destroys Mosca Jr, who's all bloodied while Gino doesn't even look back and runs away. -AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White beat Don Kent in 11:29 -The Missing Link beat Kevin Kelly in 8:48 -The Purple Haze (w/Sir Oliver Humperdink) beat Vinnie Valentino in 8:55 AWA Atlantic Coast TV Championship: Boomer Lynch beat Blackjack Lanza (subbing for Iceman King Parsons) in 36:07 to retain *** July 8th, 1984 Orlando, FL -The House of Humperdink (Abdullah the Butcher & Kevin Sullivan) beat John Bonello & Rufus Jones -Rocky "The Best Kernodle" beat AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White in 9:07. WWE TV 7/1 - 7/7 The Return of the Return of Heyman and Bischoff
SirEdger replied to Flyin' Brian's topic in WWE
Nice analysis. That's always a big issue for any big promotion at some point: creating that new buzz, that new star without doing it at the expense of a specific part of your fanbase. Sure, Cena has been a poster boy for WWE for more than 15 years now and for years, the diehard fans have felt pretty much left out in the cold because it was all about targeting that younger audience in hopes that they'll eventually stick around. I think that to an extent, Roman Reigns could be put in that category (although one could argue that since his return from his leukemia diagnosis, the reception for Roman has been universally better received than prior to that). I was reading that one of Paul Heyman's main projects for RAW was to push Ricochet to draw the teenage viewers that could be enticed by the AEW product because of the similar wrestlers they have under contract. While I'm 1000% for that, I think it's sad that WWE had to wait until the emergence of a possible new national threat to them to react and take the steps they've embarked into in the past couple of weeks. -
OK, this might be my favorite show in this whole project so far. No kidding. LOVED the creative finish to the Jimmy Garvin/Kerry Von Erich quarter-final match. The big strength of this show was exactly that; the finishes. 14 segments with 14 different scenarios to close them. Big kudos to you for pulling that off.

Here's another one of Jacques Sr's matches late in his career from 1976 against Stan Stasiak from the All-Star Wrestling promotion in Montreal. Actual footage of this promotion is pretty rare so glad I could find it yesterday.
-
That was probably me who gave it to you. IIRC, I gave you the 2nd match of the trilogy in July 1985 and I'm pretty sure you can find the blowoff match of the feud somewhere on YouTube (August 1985 I believe).

Huge boost for Terry Gordy to beat Ric Flair the way he did. Makes him the de facto top draw in your territory!

Events for June 29, 30 & July 1st, 1984 Atlantic Coast TV, June 29, 1984 Sportatorium, Tampa, FL -The Soviet Soldiers beat John Bonello & Bob Dellaserra -The Rock N' Roll RPMs cut a promo about their recent match with Ricky Steamboat against the House of Humperdink. Rumor has it that Steamboat is pretty banged up following that match and that he might leave the territory because of that. But that's beneath the point because the RPMs have their eyes set on the Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champs. Lane has 2 big matches this weekend against Bill White and the Great Kabuki and he intends on winning them to make a statement. -The Brisco Brothers also were interviewed by Bob Caudle, who asked them about their relationship to Florida Heavyweight Champion Gino Hernandez. The Brisco respond once again that it's strictly professional. What they did to Greg Valentine, they would've done to anyone else in the territory. The only thing that matters to them is to ensure that they're in the right place at the right time. -In a Falls Count Anywhere Match, Rocky "The Best Kernodle" & Kevin Kelly beat Mike Waterman & Gladwyn Wash Before the show goes off the air, Bob Caudle announces that tomorrow night in Miami, Gino Hernandez must defend the Florida Heavyweight Championship against The Missing Link. A unusually panicked Gino Hernandez storms on the set to cry foul and that Eddie Graham can't force him to do that. Caudle & Schiavone insist that since Eddie Graham runs the territory, he has the right to do so. *** June 29th, 1984 Fort Homer W. Hestorly Armory, Tampa, FL -Khruscher Khruschev beat King Carl Fergie -Wahoo McDaniel beat The Missing Link Falls Count Anywhere: AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White beat Vinnie Valentino -Adrian Adonis beat Steve Diblasio AWA Florida Heavyweight Championship: Konga the Barbarian beat Gino Hernandez to win the title after Gino purposely laid down to allow Konga to pin him. What does Gino have up his sleeves this time? -Rufus Jones upsets a bloodied & battered Paul Orndorff, who was seemingly beaten up backstage and did anything he could but to no avail. 2 out of 3 Falls Match: The Rock N' Roll RPMs beat The Commonwealth Connection (Jos LeDuc & Dynamite Kid) 2 falls to 1. LeDuc made Davis submit to a bearhug to win the first fall, Dynamite Kid got DQed using a chair on Davis to give the RPMs the 2nd fall and the RPMs got their 3rd fall after a miscue between LeDuc & Dynamite allowed Lane to roll up LeDuc. Lumberjack Match: Paul Jones' Army (Ric Flair & Jake Roberts) beat Atlantic Coast TV Champion Boomer Lynch & Abdullah the Butcher after Purple Haze accidentally hit Abdullah with the Golden Spike. Postmatch, Abby and Haze got into it and flairing the opportunity, Eddie Graham announces that on Monday night in Orlando, Purple Haze and Abdullah will wrestle each other! *** June 30th, 1984 Miami, FL -Tommy Lane beat Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White in 5:35 AWA Atlantic Coast TV Championship: Boomer Lynch beat Ricky Steamboat in 14:18 to retain. Postmatch, Konga attacked The Missing Link. Looks like Gino's plans from last night has become a bit clearer! -Don Kent beat Ric McCord in 13:38 AWA Atlantic Coast Heavyweight Championship: Johnny Weaver beat Rufus Jones in 11:50 to retain *** July 1st, 1984 Orlando, FL -Bob Dellaserra fight AWA Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champion Bill White to a double DQ. Cain Velasquez was a big staple of the UFC Heavyweight division during his prime. I believe he defeated Brock Lesnar to take his UFC Heavyweight title. I knew that he had interest in pro wrestling, given that he worked out at the WWE PC but I was very surprised to hear he'd debut in AAA.

Raymond said recently that Jacques Sr pretty much was the backbone of the family, when it came to wrestling. He started wrestling in 1955 but he pretty much took a 10-year hiatus because the money wasn't so good around that time and returned to wrestling in 1965. He was part of the 2nd biggest show in Quebec wrestling history in 1972 when the 3 main events of the show featured a Rougeau (Johnny vs Abdullah the Butcher, Jacques Sr vs The Sheik and Raymond vs Don Serrano). He wrestled his last match in 1984 but he actually provided French commentary for the 1997 Royal Rumble if my memory serves me well along with his son Raymond. His most known angle though is the infamous St-Jean-Baptiste Massacre at the Montreal Forum in 1985 when the Garvins were scheduled to wrestle the Rougeaus for the first time. Legendary to this day up here. t

The patriarch of the Rougeau family, Jacques Sr, father to Jacques, Raymond, Armand and sister Joanne (who was the WWF promoter in Montreal in the 90s) passed away on Monday at age 89. Most definitely lived in the shadow of his illustrious brother Jean/Johnny but he was quite a formidable tag team wrestler in his heyday.

The Movement is on a roll, man. They're gonna be unstoppable and the Von Erichs better watch out!

Rocky Johnson so needs to change his name to Rockald Johnson. That's brilliant and license to print money!

WWE TV 7/1 - 7/7 The Return of the Return of Heyman and Bischoff
SirEdger replied to Flyin' Brian's topic in WWE
Apparently, Bischoff is taking his new job very seriously. He's moving to Stamford and "starting over from scratch." I take it that once again, that's a good indication that Vince will give some relative leeway to Bischoff and Heyman if Bischoff was ready to make that move. -

On the bright side, it's nice of them to remember that they still have the Viking Raiders and that they can book them. -

Solid card for Beach Brawl!

So apparently, Flip Gordon is the new member of Villain Enterprises?

Seeing Gino Brito and Richard Charland beat the tar out of each other brought a smile on my face. Great memories of both the 83 Project and my childhood!
-
From what's been circulating online, there's no plans to have Bischoff appear on-screen. So yeah, the liaison with FOX Sports seems to be the key reason for his hiring.
-
Fair enough. But when you have the possibility of FOX pulling the plug on Smackdown Live if the ratings still tank, it's worth a shot for Vince to let Bischoff do his thing with the brand. People will say that he's a one-trick poney (NWO) but look at how he handled the Cruiserweight division during the peak of WCW. He can showcase different talents a lot better than people will give him credit for.
-
The one thing that makes me believe that both Bischoff & Heyman will have a relatively good amount of freedom creatively is that I don't think Bischoff would've taken the job if he didn't have a guarantee that he would have creative leeway in the process. Quite frankly, Vince needed Bischoff more than Bischoff needs Vince. I'm genuinely excited for this because there are so many guys on that roster that I wanna see succeed so I'm rooting for those changes. I'm curious to see how long will it take before we see a difference between both shows (and what we've recently seen.)
