  1. Matt Sydal & ACH vs Adam Page & BJ Whitmer - I know Matt Sydal is free from the WWE chains but he is doing himself a disservice growing his hair out like a Wyatt member. - OK, I have seen everything now… a shooting star headbutt - I guess Sydal’s knee is perfectly fine now. - Fun match with a convoluted finish. I thought the finish was stupid, especially since Sydal’s pin after the Shooting Star Press looked so obvious he was grabbing the wrong leg so Colby could interfere.
  2. Created a thread just for tonight's show. Join in over there!!!!!
  3. Donovan Dijak w/ Truth Martini vs. Mark Briscoe w/ ODB - Nothing happening until the insane bodyslam to the outside. Briscoe is incredibly stupid for taking that bump. - The fact he sold his back the rest of the way was a bonus. - I liked that he retaliated with the neck breaker on the floor and I was hoping it would lead somewhere later on. - At least Mark wasn’t jobbing. Fun opener
  4. Reed and Orndorff as your top two faces in 1983 isn't a bad way to go. Reed is still developing but you have some solid heels to carry things.
  5. You're being too defensive. I was trolling you. You did challenge me on why I didn't use star ratings on the podcast so I was having a little fun at your expense.
  6. I agree with what Bix said. I was listening to Dusty Rhodes week in and week out back then... and he had to contend with tons of great talkers week in and week out (Flair, Arn, Tully, Valiant, etc.) not to mention great promos by Savage in WWF, Bock in AWA that it only stands out in retrospect especially when we are exposed to horrible script written promos on a weekly basis. You could say the same thing about the "Violence for the sake of Violence" promo or the "View from Behind" promo.
  7. Looking at your roster, that's a ton of veteran talent but most are past their prime. Is the idea to stay strong with veteran experience until you get a youth explosion in the near future?
  8. Can't go wrong with the King and Idol tearing it up. The RNR are a year away from blowing up as the biggest tag team in the nation. Troy Graham and Buddy Landel could be big if they don't become headcases for the promotion.
  9. Man, the Riverwalk will turn a crimson red. You can have Riverwalk death matches. Alamo death matches, Tex-Mex death matches...
  10. With the exception of Muraco, who could suck the greatness out of your cards, that is a sweet ass roster. Dibiase, Murdoch.... at the top of their games. Von Rachke was fun. Wrestling II was pretty great this year. JYD was a legitimate draw.
  11. Salivating at some of the shows right here in my backyard. Fabs vs. Fire & Flame Duggan vs. Saito Manny vs. The Birds Take my $4 for the ringside ticket now.
  12. Man, you had me up until Darsow & Volkoff. I am thinking of all kinds of card possibilities here.
  13. Who the fuck is Mike Doggendorf?
  14. I have been accused by two of my friends (Loss and shoe) in the past and present of not knowing how star ratings work or not manning up and putting my own stars on a match. I refuse to because in observing people's star ratings, they are in a constant state of flux. If they are fluid, and not the concrete objective standard they appear to be or people want them to be, then I would rather discuss the merits and faults of a match than apply a rating to them. We have seen Scott Keith, people in the yearbook discussion, and other examples in the microscope and GWE forums change their star ratings after revisiting a match again sometimes a mere day or two after giving the initial ranking. What people are really doing is saying "This is the subjective number ranking I am putting on this match factoring in all of the outside disruptors (amount of sleep, experience, amount of footage consumed, age, mood, etc.) that have influenced my thought process at this specific moment in time." I often do this with shoe (because I'm an asshole) not because I think his ratings have objective merit but because I am using his own ratings compared to his other star ratings. From his rankings, i can draw conclusions to what shoe likes in his wrestling (nonstop action, flippy high flyers, tributes to the art of selling) and what he doesn't value (badass limb work from women, the best punch exchanges in history, the role of the cut and exploiting that cut). Again, this is also only relative to what I have seen from Pete through my own experiences. He may have other ratings on the Titans or whatever that may make me change my mind on what Pete likes. In this case, I am as limited as Pete in what those star ratings mean. Again, star ratings aren't telling me how good a match is as much as it is telling me what an individual values in their wrestling. My point isn't that star ratings don't have value. They do have value. Loss and I used Meltzer's and other people's rankings when we decided what matches should go on yearbooks. We also used the match rankings from the DVDVR projects. We also used recommendations from people here and at DVDVR. In the end though, the star ratings weren't concrete. They were only a momentary glimpse of what people ranked highly back in 2000 or what Meltzer or Lorefice or Scott Keith thought back in 1997 or whatever. Midway through the project, there were opinions we valued more than others. If Childs recommended a match, we probably considered it more than random poster ECWFAN420FOREVER.

    John Cena

I don't think Parv I s going to rate any of those matches very highly.
  16. I know porn is a hobby for some here but not for all and could be a reason for some people to avoid the board. Wrestling is porn has been talked about before and was a low point for the board. Lets kill the discussion now. If you have a problem with it, feel free to throw me a PM. We can compare wrestling to thousands of things. We already did it with porn. Move on and end this current strand of discussion. Thank you.
  17. Just curious, but when was Joe's last really great match? On the indys after he left TNA? Sometime in TNA?
  18. And there are also times when other people can take the fun away from such a task.
  19. I have flirted with the idea of a Tenta comp. He has a nice solid run in 1989 All Japan enough to flirt with the Top 150 matches of the decade there. He had a fun match with Sting (with one of the worst finishes ever) in 1994. Doc had WOTY worthy years in 1986 UWF and had the awesome All Japan run. Tenta doesn't come close to Doc in terms of output or quality. If you want to say you enjoy watching Tenta more than Doc, nobody will fault you for that but his body of work doesn't stand up.
  20. Neither has a shot at being on the WWF redux and reinforces my view that Muraco was a shit wrestler.
  21. You don't see the point of me posting reviews of matches you discussed on the shows?
  22. Stop crying. He lived a good life.
  23. N/M... a mix of old interviews combined with new ones. Worth checking out.
  24. Is this the old Dusty DVD documentary they are airing?
