  1. How about Jumbo/Funk 6/11/76?
  2. Kobashi didn't come over *JUST* for ROH. He was also working for Harley Race in WLW, and Harley had been sending his boys over to NOAH for years. So, it's more likley that Gabe and/or Cary found out he was coming over and jumped at the chance to get him.
  3. I can see consideration for Brody and Hansen as a team. But, there's just no way that Brody belongs anywhere near a list of all time greats.
  4. Kobashi was Triple Crown Champion in August of '98. I doubt Baba was going to let him go anywhere period. Let alone the American equivalent of FMW to put over their tag champs, unless he *REALLY* liked RVD from his time in AJPW.
  5. The reason I've always ranked Jumbo over Misawa is in the way Jumbo works with lower-ranked workers. Simply put, Misawa didn't *work* with them. He just let them tee off on him for 9/10 of the match, and then took it home when he was ready. Taiyo Kea in '98, Hiroshi Hase in 2000, Takuma Sano in 2003. Jumbo worked with them and made them look credible. I reviewed a bunch of Jumbo's AWA Title matches, both in Japan and the U.S. and he was going out of his way to make Jim Brunzell look like he was only an eyelash away from winning the title.
  6. Jesse at his best. I actually prefer him and Monsoon over Monsoon and Heenan. Another good Jesse line: Ventura: Now why would Warrior do that? Hogan eliminates the warrior, so he gets in the ring and nails the other two opponents? That don't make sense to me Schivone! Shaivone: He's a wild man! Ventura: He's an idiot! SummerSlam '89 after Warrior used the belt. Jesse: That's a disqualification!! Where in the hell is the referee? Tony: That's outside of the ring Jesse. Jesse: So what? Tony: As much as it can just be a coun tout here. Jesse: What are you going to tell me Schiavone? You can shoot somebody outside the ring, as long as it's outside the ring? Royal Rumble '90 after Hogan slingshots Perfect into the post. Jesse: He put him into the post! See what Perfect did to the post! Tony: Actually, he was saved by the post that time, I think. Jesse: Saved? How do you get saved hitting the post? Tony: Well, if he hadn't hit the post, he would've gone over the top.
  7. KC's Teddy Long Youshoot is solid, but not great.
  8. Everyone seems sure, for good reasons, that it's going to be Ryback. I'd say use the PPV kick off show, to show an angle of Ryback getting jumped by Harper and carted off in an ambulance. This takes Ryback out of the match and sets up a program with Harper. Team Cena comes down and Cena gets on the mic, and says that the Authority took Ryback out. But, if they think that the match is going to be 5-on-4, "I'M AFRAID I'VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS!" and the returning Bad News Barrett is the fifth member. It gives Barrett a big return, and also can play off the fact that HHH was seemingly a huge supporter of him before he got hurt. And the announcers can talk about the history of Cena and Barrett going back to the Nexus days.
  9. KC wanted Backlund for 1981, but they couldn't come to terms on a price tag. Too bad too, I would have loved hearing about the famous Valentine match where Greg was announced as new champ. I guess we can hold out hope for Bob for 1982, because I have no idea who else they can get besides Snuka, and that would be a trainwreck. Maybe Afa and/or Sika?
  10. Is this a sign that RF is running out of people to interview? Outside of his response to Doug Gilbert's accusation of him smoking crack in the control room, what's the appeal here?
  11. How about Bugsy McGraw?

My guess is that it leads to a couple of weeks of TV with HHH and Steph doing menial things like cleaning toilets, and then they'll do a final blow off to Ambrose/Rollins or Rollins/Orton or something with the stip that if Rollins wins then they get to be in charge again.
  13. I don't know, it's hard to say if there would have been any major consequences or repercussions if Mick's fall resulted in something more tragic. Shawn started using the crossface less than six months after the Benoit tragedy, and it didn't seem to be a big deal, and I think we'd all agree that the Benoit tragedy far outweighs the hypothetical Foley one. If Mick gets permantly injured, and the Foley family sues, I really don't see that working out too well for them, honestly. I'm not saying they would have lost in court, but I doubt a jury would feel overly sympathetic when they heard that Mick had been taking bumps onto concrete, tacks, ramps, etc. long before he was even on the WWF's radar. It's safe to assume that the PPV would never have seen the light of day as far as a home video release goes, but, it would have wound up on the Network, although probably heavily edited. I've never watched it, but it's probably safe to assume that all mentions of Owen, and Owen's match, are removed from Over the Edge '99. The first thing that came to my mind was that Kanyon's cage bump would have never seen the light of day. But, even that doesn't seem overly likely, when you really think about it. Wrestlers had been jumping off cages since at least '82 with Snuka/Backlund.
  14. What about The Renegade?
  15. WWF @ Landover, MD - Capital Centre - August 17, 1985 WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan pinned Brutus Beefcake WWF @ Toronto, Ontario - Maple Leaf Gardens - May 26, 1985 Ricky Steamboat pinned Brutus Beefcake I'm not proclaiming either of these to be all time classics or anything, but I think they're both good, with the Steamer match being the better one.
  16. Agreed, as well as his having good matches with Hogan and with Steamboat.
  17. Would it be bad form and/or stealing anyone else's thunder to say "Bulldog" Bob Brown?
  18. Not really. That's one thing I've always hoped that KC would do with Jim. They did something similar with Gabe, on how he would have booked ROH had he not gotten shitcanned. He's always talked about how he was booking SMW while in the backseat during road trips with WCW, so I think it'd be a cool idea to see what all Jim actually had planned out.
  19. Mick Foley in G vs E?
  20. On the advise of my buddy, who recorded it for me, I skipped right to the main event. I thought they did a good job of making their first real chance to main event count, especially Ambrose' revenge spots like the chair shots to the back, and setting up the curb stomp on the blocks. I thought the finish was pretty much horseshit, but that doesn't detract from Ambrose and Rollins' overall efforts. I don't think I'd put this near MOTY levels, but it worked for me for what it was. Headed to bed, I'll check out the rest of the show in the AM.
  21. I'm stuck working overtime, but I'll check it out later tonight on tape delay with a cold one. The only things I'm really hopeful for are the 2/3 Falls, and Ambrose/Rollins.

  23. This was one of the more shocking heel turns that I can recall, because it was so out of the blue. Nowadays, there always weeks of arguing, dissension, and mis communication that leads to the turn.
  24. That's completely untrue. Jim drinks Sprite!

I can see where Dave is coming from, but he's still way off. He's remembering Austin doing goofy shit like filling Vince's limo with cement, and driving beer trucks and Zamboni machines into arenas. But, (A. That's still not as goofy as some of the stuff Ambrose is doing, and (B. Those aren't the reason Austin got over in the first place (nor are they the reason Ambrose is so over).
