Overall, I thought it was a solid, fun, show, but nothing blow away. The crap was pretty much kept short. Blink and you'll miss Parker/Corbin and Mojo/Bull. I liked the finish of the four way, and it looks like Neville/Zayn is the next big title program, but, like Zero said the first half was sloppy. I thought it was weird to introduce him as KENTA and them flat out announce his new name. BTW, when did Charlotte's finisher get changed from "Bow Down to the Queen" or "Natural Selection."

Does anyone know the logic behind the numbering of the Nitro episodes? I thought that maybe it was supposed to lineup with RAW, so that someone wanting to watch them back to back to compare could find them easily, but that's obviously not the case.

Wrestling Observer Recap: 2/19/1996 - Cover Story Only
MikeCampbell replied to Matt D's topic in Newsletter recaps
That's always been the story that's been told. Razor signed and told Nash the money and the number of days, and then Nash signed. -
Should a promotion's top program always be for the world title?
MikeCampbell replied to pol's topic in Pro Wrestling
I think the answer should be yes 9 times out of 10. I'm OK with the occasional big feud or program not centering around the title, especially if it's between two guys who are already made, and neither really needs the title. But, I think, for the most part, the title should be always be the focal point. -
I agree to a point, but, you need the occasional "every man" sort of character. I think that's a large part of what made CM Punk so popular. He wasn't some legit tough guy who could fuck you up, like Regal or Finlay. He wasn't some juiced up musclehead. He was just a regular guy.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Loss, I think this is completely on the money. If it was some CZW/IWA death match worker, then people would be jumping to blame the years of those crazy and insane bumps, and the need for painkillers, and clammoring for death matches to be abolished. If it was Jeff Hardy, then the blame would be strictly aimed at his substance abuse issues. -
In 1995 he "resigned" from the Magazine to publish his own "dirt sheet" called The Bite. He published transcripts of Vince McMahon AOL chats and gave away TV taping results. The news was still strictly kayfabed and almost entirely fantasy booking. I don't think it lasted very long. He outed himself as Vince Russo in the Venom column at some point in either 1998 or 1999. I had a subscription from 1994 through the end of 1996, so I missed his official outing. I just remember "Vic Venom" being on Livewire one morning, and then a few years later I saw Russo on WCW TV when he first jumped, and realized they were the same guy.

As far as using wrestling vernacular out of context, I'm guilty of using the phrase "heat" (in the context of having heat with someone) quite a bit.
-
Maybe he and Virgil can do something together.
-
Does anyone remember Vic Venom? Even before I knew he was Russo (and I didn't connect those dots until 1999 when Russo put himself on WCW TV), I thought he was annoying. The Venom stuff I'm recalling, from 1994 or so, were basically just the equivalent of reading a heel color commentator, with nowhere near the humor of Jesse or Bobby.

Bret's Timeline is a total 180 from the Piper Timeline. Piper went off on boring tangents that had nothing to do with the topics. Bret goes off a bit, but keeps it somewhat related to the topic, and are very interesting and/or entertaining. Can anyone confirm if Wrestling With Shadows features a scene with Neidhart commenting that at least no monitors got thrown, after Bret punched Vince?

The Flair/Savage feud is credited with WCW's House Show business taking off in 1995. I don't recall many specifics other than Flair beating up Savage's father at Slamboree that year. -
I think the Ding Dong's segment with Paul E. is actually going to be on his upcoming DVD. One of the extras is called "Ding Dong Who is it?"
-
It aired on TV, according to Kris. I'd imagine that, if nobody else, that Steve Friedlander would have it.
-
I would love to see the episode after Austin's 2002 walkout again.

I had a letter published in "The Wrestler" in 1998. I asked JJ Dillon why Hall and Giant hadn't been stripped of the WCW Tag Titles when they hadn't defended them in more than thirty days. The answer wound up being something along the lines of it being unfair to the Giant to have to wrestle with a partner who isn't always in condition to perform.

In late spring or early summer of 1994, my sixteen year old sister happened to see the Shawn Michaels advice column, and got super offended by it. She actually sat down and wrote a letter to the WWF Magazine about how distasteful and offensive she found the column. No, her letter wasn't published. But, two months later, the column included a little addenum, basically just "Shawn" spouting off about how great he was and how much all the chicks dug him. We don't know for sure, for obvious reasons, but we think that was included because of the letter.

"I could care less" is at least a grammatically correct term, even if it's incorrectly used 99% of the time. I could care less about New Japan right now, I haven't seen any of their shows in forever, but I still keep up with the results and the goings on. That's more than I can say about Dragon Gate, TNA, ROH, and AAA.

I just remembered one that used to bother me. Hearing Nitro referred to as "Monday Night Nitro"

High: The two Joe/Styles PPV matches from 2005, and the 3 way from Unbreakable. Low: The rest of the Unbreakable PPV.
-
I've always interpreted this as the wrestlers trading off spots, or strikes, without any regard for building the match or telling a story. Like the AJPW pop up sequences with the suplexes, or the Kobashi/Sasaki eternal chop exchanges.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad

A shining example of Skeith's work ethic. It may not be accurate, but I had to get it done on time!
