WWF @ Landover, MD - Capital Centre - August 17, 1985 WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan pinned Brutus Beefcake WWF @ Toronto, Ontario - Maple Leaf Gardens - May 26, 1985 Ricky Steamboat pinned Brutus Beefcake I'm not proclaiming either of these to be all time classics or anything, but I think they're both good, with the Steamer match being the better one.

Agreed, as well as his having good matches with Hogan and with Steamboat.

Would it be bad form and/or stealing anyone else's thunder to say "Bulldog" Bob Brown?
-
Not really. That's one thing I've always hoped that KC would do with Jim. They did something similar with Gabe, on how he would have booked ROH had he not gotten shitcanned. He's always talked about how he was booking SMW while in the backseat during road trips with WCW, so I think it'd be a cool idea to see what all Jim actually had planned out.

Mick Foley in G vs E?

On the advise of my buddy, who recorded it for me, I skipped right to the main event. I thought they did a good job of making their first real chance to main event count, especially Ambrose' revenge spots like the chair shots to the back, and setting up the curb stomp on the blocks. I thought the finish was pretty much horseshit, but that doesn't detract from Ambrose and Rollins' overall efforts. I don't think I'd put this near MOTY levels, but it worked for me for what it was. Headed to bed, I'll check out the rest of the show in the AM.

I'm stuck working overtime, but I'll check it out later tonight on tape delay with a cold one. The only things I'm really hopeful for are the 2/3 Falls, and Ambrose/Rollins.

[1995-08-21-WWF-Raw] Diesel & Davey Boy Smith vs Men on a Mission
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in August 1995
This was one of the more shocking heel turns that I can recall, because it was so out of the blue. Nowadays, there always weeks of arguing, dissension, and mis communication that leads to the turn.- 22 replies

That's completely untrue. Jim drinks Sprite!

I can see where Dave is coming from, but he's still way off. He's remembering Austin doing goofy shit like filling Vince's limo with cement, and driving beer trucks and Zamboni machines into arenas. But, (A. That's still not as goofy as some of the stuff Ambrose is doing, and (B. Those aren't the reason Austin got over in the first place (nor are they the reason Ambrose is so over).

WCW also provided a great follow up the next week: Ric Flair wrestled The Booty Man, with Meng, Norton, and other WCW wrestlers standing guard outside. The Horsemen all kick the dogshit out of him. Gene is all indignant about it, asking Arn how he can do this when he was a victim last week, and Arn responds with one of his greatest promos ever, Benoit and McMichael get a chance to talk, and then Flair cuts his usual crazy ranting promo on Hogan.

I've been watching some SDW (Steel Domain Wrestling) for free on their website. I've really liked Ariya Daivari (younger brother of the more well known one), he's a solid performer and really knows how to get the crowd riled up.

I'm 31, almost 32, and I've always loved wrestling and I think I always will. But, it's just not a priority right now. I've got two kids, (one of which is in school now and having some troubles), my job, and just every day stuff. Five years ago, if I heard about a highly praised match like Ultimo/Atlantis, or an upcoming Cornette shoot, they'd be at the top of my to-do list, But now, I'm excited to see them, but if it takes a year or more, then I'll see them when I see them.

Now I know why Jim is so hung up on the bucky beaver teeth of his.

When did the IC title nose dive for you?
MikeCampbell replied to Sidebottom's topic in Pro Wrestling
It's never really nosedived for me. There were periods when I couldn't have cared less about it, Santino's first run, Curtis Axel, Mysterio holding it for no special reason. But, I can think of plenty of times that I've been interested in the title picture. Kofi's first run and that nice mid-card feud with Paul Birchall, Santino and the Honk-o-Meter, Punk chasing Regal, and even recently with Ziggler and Miz. -
Doug Furnas was who I first thought of too. Meltzer has said that his powerlifting accomplishments were significantly better than Mark Henry's.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I was also born in '82, but, I always found myself more nostalgic for the '80's and the idea of territories. My uncle gave me a huge stack of old magazines in the early 1990's, going back to the early '80's. So, it wasn't uncommon to see ten year old Mike, reading a seven year old magazine. -
I do believe that it's a Scott Keith thing. Austin would do the kick to the gut, and it could completely stun them so he could hit the stunner. When HHH started using the kick, that's when he adopted Kick What Pedigree.

Overall, I thought it was a solid, fun, show, but nothing blow away. The crap was pretty much kept short. Blink and you'll miss Parker/Corbin and Mojo/Bull. I liked the finish of the four way, and it looks like Neville/Zayn is the next big title program, but, like Zero said the first half was sloppy. I thought it was weird to introduce him as KENTA and them flat out announce his new name. BTW, when did Charlotte's finisher get changed from "Bow Down to the Queen" or "Natural Selection."

Does anyone know the logic behind the numbering of the Nitro episodes? I thought that maybe it was supposed to lineup with RAW, so that someone wanting to watch them back to back to compare could find them easily, but that's obviously not the case.

Wrestling Observer Recap: 2/19/1996 - Cover Story Only
MikeCampbell replied to Matt D's topic in Newsletter recaps
That's always been the story that's been told. Razor signed and told Nash the money and the number of days, and then Nash signed. -
Should a promotion's top program always be for the world title?
MikeCampbell replied to pol's topic in Pro Wrestling
I think the answer should be yes 9 times out of 10. I'm OK with the occasional big feud or program not centering around the title, especially if it's between two guys who are already made, and neither really needs the title. But, I think, for the most part, the title should be always be the focal point.
