  1. The Funk clone stuff was really apparent toward the end of his career. He subbed for Funk at Clash 7 (plastic bag angle), he was brought into Studd Stable as Funk's replacement when Terry left WCW. Any footage of his tag run with Orton in the Southeast out there. Cornette once claimed that the early Midnight Express double teams were stolen from Slater and Orton.
  2. The two promos of his on the 1992 yearbook blew me away, especially the second one he cut on Warrior, which makes me wonder if he's almost been tainted by the 'half the brain' promo from WCW. Not that long ago I watched Halloween Havoc '90, and Sid put on a pretty good performance in the main event, much better than Sting.

  4. Good lord, this rules beyond belief. Lyger and Sammy hate one another and that's pretty much all you need to know. They work rather tight, Sammy really seemed to be trying to stretch Lyger in that armbar, and they throw in some stiffness and mask ripping for good measure. I can see why some wouldn't care for Lyger getting right up after missing the senton, but it wasn't a big deal to me, Lyger appeared to roll through the spot rather than take a flat bump.
  5. I liked this, but I didn't love it. Both guys were game, Misawa much more than Gordy. I loved the spot where Misawa was turning for an elbow and Gordy saw it coming and dropped him with lariat.
  6. If this comes to fruition, then some footage of David Von Erich's heel run in Florida is a must.
  7. All the recent Bret Hart talk has me thinking about exactly *when* various workers entered their primes. Like I said in the Bret thread, I thought that Will giving Bret all four years of '94-97 was generous of him, especially with his extended absence in '96. But the more I think about it, between the classic he had with Austin, and his tweaking the UT formula to suit his needs and produce a grossly under appreciated match, I can see making a case for including that year for him. So here's a few other workers that I'm curious about when exactly their primes would be considered. Sergeant Slaughter Jun Akiyama (I would guess the consensus is '96, but it's absurd to me that he hit his prime four years after his debut and has been going for over 20 years now) Shinjiro Ohtani (see above) Terry Gordy Nikita Koloff Rick Martel
  8. Dreamer versus Raven
  9. This was a nice segment. Logically explaining Koloff's heel turn the year before to turn him babyface now, and making sure to bury the recently departed Luger.
  10. Wasn't in only two weeks ago that everyone in Memphis hated this man, and he hated them right back? Talk about doing a total 180. All the redness on his face really adds to this moment.
  11. I'm surprised to see Tom winning here, with the Heavenly Bodies having just started and already being established as the top team, I'd guess that Prichard was on his way out of the USWA.
  12. Holy smokes, Sid with another great promo!
  13. His mom called him Crush? That's kinda odd. True as it may be that most adults don't mind their manners they that they tell their kids to, probably not a great idea to spread that message to the kids watching.
  14. Now this was something I was able to get behind, just a hateful bloody brawl, with Bull really standing out to me. Al most like a female Jumbo Tsuruta. She was the top woman in the company, but had no issues with making her rival look for all the world like the person to knock her off, before digging down and finding the key to win.
  15. I really wanted to love this, but I just wasn't into it as much as I felt like I should have been, considering it's AJW in '92. So reading these other posts tells me that it's not just me. I liked the idea of Toyota going after Kyoko's arm, but it was just filler. Kyoko going after Toyota's back in hardly a new concept, and there was some cool visuals of Toyota getting stretched out, but it never led anywhere. It would have been cool to see Toyota try the Cyclone and lose the bridge, a la Kawada's German in the 12/93 tag. Yes, their pacing was awesome, but at the end of the day, it just came off like a spotfest to me.
  16. I imagine it's all about context, so we can compare Eddie's matches here to two or three years from now and see him blossom into the great worker that he became. Even in it's JIP form, this is pretty sloppy.
  17. Agreed with everyone's assessment of Eddie. He had the wrestling part down, but not the working (if that makes sense). A couple of more years wrestling alongside a few of the world's best would get Eddie over that particular hump though. Lyger's taunt after getting the knees up on Eddie's splash is the coolest thing on the set since Lozanski and co, doing the triple strut.
  18. Their 2/93 match was better, but this was still excellent stuff. Hansen is always ready, willing, and able to sell his ass off. Kawada looks like the heir to the throne for taking it to the man the way he does, and Hansen proves why he's the man by knowing how to beat Kawada. But, Tosh's time would come soon enough.
  19. Sting looks horrible, his tights don't coordinate with his face paint, the cowboy boots look awful and, worst of all, he doesn't have the belt.
  20. This was awful, aside from Hayes scalping tickets.
  21. Fun stuff all around, especially Stan Lane's bit to all the women to keep their greasy, sweaty, hands off of them.
  22. Jarrett does a decent promo, but Lawler is a million miles ahead of him.
  23. I really enjoyed this. I was surprised to see how animated Flair was, the times I've seen him in Japan he's been all business so to speak.
