Does Punk still have locker room heat because of his supposed attitude problem? If that's the case, that's the only reason I don't see him becoming a top guy of Cena proportions.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Ross is FAR too smart to even entertain the notion of going to TNA. While a Ross/Tazz or Ross/Tenay combo would probably be good. There's two things that would stop that from happening. 1. Russo. He was trying to get JR taken off of TV way back in '99 with that ridiculous heel turn because he believed that fat, southern, JR didn't mesh well with the mainstream WWF. 2. Bischoff. He gave Ross the axe in '93 for the same reasons Russo tried to get him unseated six years after. -
The Cornette/TNA drama has turned into the third or fourth round of Cornette vs. Bischoff. Bischoff's comments: Cornette's reply.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
MikeCampbell replied to sek69's topic in Megathread archive
Not that I disagree with the point of your post, Loss, because I think you're right, but Puppet the Psycho Dwarf was from TNA's early days on PPV, before Panda got involved. Not that TNA hasn't put questionable things on TV tons of times, just look at the Jordan "milk" incident from a week or so ago. I'd imagine the executive in question would be some Panda energy bigwig or maybe someone with Spike. I can understand them going to a hotel bar, they're usually a bit more upscale than your average standalone bar. Edit: Kris beat me to the punch. -
Isn't Brad still with WWE? I'd never heard of him getting canned and there's no mention of it on his Wiki entry.

From Brad Armstrong's shoot interview, after he accidentally opened up a huge gash on Steve Williams' eye. "DOC. . . I'M SORRY!"
-
DOI is good for humor, but anything they report as news should be taken with, give or take, a truckload of salt. When Sapolsky was booking ROH, DOI had stories every other day about Gabe, most of which wound up being shot all to hell.

Downtown Bruno's stories about Sid from his book
MikeCampbell replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Hey Bix, it's not Sid related, but does Bruno talk at all about the story from Foley's first book where Brickhouse pulled the gun in the locker room? Foley's book says that he only pulled it on Bruno, who got scared shitless. Brickhouse says in his shoot interview that he pulled it on the whole locker room (minus Jeff Jarrett, because he was the only one not laughing at Bruno's jokes) and they all hit the floor scared out of their minds. -
I didn't get this DVD, but I just watched this match today and feel the need to talk about it. I first saw this about five years ago when I was first getting into Joshi. This was one match that was very highly touted. My initial reaction to this was thinking that it was truly epic. Not because I'd been told it was great, but because that was how I actually felt. I also recall a debate on one of the boards over which 8/22/85 match was better, and I was floored that ANYONE could pick Lioness/Jaguar over it. Fast forward almost six years later, I happened across the tape and decided it would make a nice father/daughter bonding moment to watch this together. I'm able to recognize that it's a good match, but I'm lost of why I thought it was so epic before. I'd like to think that maybe I was somewhat distracted by holding the baby and having to pick up her pacifier a few times.

That Shawn Michaels/Jeff Jarrett match from In Your House
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Considering the WWF's current state in '95, would a program between Diesel and Jarrett/Roadie for Summerslam done much better than Diesel/King Mabel? -
Cornette's Dunn impersonations are priceless. As is his description of Dunn's job title "The executive asshole. . . I mean vice president of the WWE."
-
I do, to a certain extent, although I don't agree with it. Like you said, which I do agree with, Flair, Bret, Savage, and Steamboat were already there before him. But Shawn was the first main event who really worked a style with more emphasis on flying and bumping, which was unique for a main eventer at that point. Flair, Bret, and even Steamer to a point, were more technical workers. I think Flair was a better bumper overall, but didn't take to the air like Shawn. Savage took to the air a lot, for his time in the late '80's, but not nearly as much as Shawn did in the '90's.
-
I'll agree with Shawn about disliking the boyhood dream angle. I never understood why they went in that direction, considering he'd spend the better part of the previous four years as a sleazeball heel.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists

WrestleMania XII was in California, in Anaheim. So Keith's question still stands. -
I don't know what to tell you, John, except that I evidently had a sheltered childhood.

As a 27 year old adult who has read and heard plenty about the lifestyle during the '80's, not surprised at all. As a nineteen year old, mostly mark, who read Pure Dynamite and read that Bret Hart, who'd always been heralded as the hero and role model, yes, it took me by surprise.
-
I'm actually surprised that Stuart hasn't canned the AJPW page the way he did the NOAH page. It's going on three months of no updates.
-
I actually first lost respect for him when I read Pure Dynamite, and Billington's story about him, Bret, and JYD smoking crack all night. DK made no bones about his drugs, and JYD's issues were well known, but I was surprised (then) to hear about Bret partaking in it.
-
I've been wanting to check out some recent ROH and this was one of the matches that had been getting huge pimping, like codegreen said, glad to read this before dropping the $20.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who had that sort of mindset. I don't care too much for wrestling at the moment, but, shit, that could change tomorrow.
-
I don't have the book in front of me. But I seem to recall his comments being along the lines of Leviathan always just went out there and squashed someone in short order. But he never felt like he was sat down and really taught how to wrestle.

The sheer amount of time and money to make the definitive complete Flair comp is staggering. Of course, if Will actually undertook this massive task, he could probably sell ten sets and retire for a couple of years.
