  3. Another great podcast guys. I keep putting off diving into PR because I was planning on really starting whenever the 80s set came out. I need to get over that and just jump in. The 10 or so PR matches I've watched I've loved. Side note, someone should start transcribing Exile. There is just sooooooooo much information.
  4. Pre TNA Sting is Ron Harper. Harper Burst onto the scene as a rookie in 1987 averaging 23ppg and 2.5 spg. Looked like a total stud who could long term turn into a future 10x all star. Unfortunately he got injured before he could follow up on his rookie magic. Showed flashes of brilliance on the court but couldn't really sustain it in a truly meaningful way. Carrying the Clippers to the 8th seed and losing in the first round a couple of times is probably the equivalent of Sting and Vader having great matches together in a poorly run promotion. Had the best and most memorable run of his career playing a limited, but still important role, alongside the GOAT who happened to be in the middle of a career redefining comeback. I like both of them and have fond memories of them both. But Ron Harper isn't a hall of famer and neither is Sting.
  5. That last bit about AJ is staggering. edit: How many people have fallen off twice and been brought back on? With the 15 years on the ballot rule, will AJ's 15 years start with 2017, 2015 or whatever year he fell off before?
  6. I skimmed through today's posts and so forgive me if someone already posted it, but who fell off never to return? (please don't say Villano III) Can someone hook Dave up with El Boriqua so Carlos Colon gets a proper bio?
  7. I finally watched this the other day after Loss recommended Fuyuki in the "Best Spectacle Wrestler" thread and I can't stop thinking about the post match angle. I recently rewatched Flair/Steamboat from WrestleWar for the first time in a long time so I don't want to say this is the best post match angle ever...but...um...2nd best post match angle ever? This was incredible. Must see.
  8. We need to focus on what is really important and that is Zach Lowe articles and podcasts. Where and When can I get them? I got these cheesburgers man. I just need a little ZachLowe.
  9. I watched this laaaaate last night and it didn't kick me in the teeth the way I was really hoping. Definitely a great match that I plan on rewatching sooner than later. The last 3 minutes was definitely excellent but overall it wasn't my favorite shoot style match. I did have a question though for when I rewatch it. What was up with the weak ass random punches Yammamoto was throwing whenever he had Tamura on the ground? Eventually it led to Tamura getting pissed and throwing some really hard punches from the ground which led to Yammamoto's yellow card. I'm just wondering why bother throwing those super weak and slow punches? Thanks!
  10. I just turned 31 this past week and with Halloween happening, we figured the best way to celebrate was a marathon of the dark side's favorite wrestler EL SATANICO! Come hangout and watch maybe the best wrestler who ever lived http://www.taima.tv/r/happybirthday

    Carl Greco

Ballpark, how much footage is out there? I've seen around a half dozen matches so he's not a candidate to make my list but he is incredibly great and I want to watch everything that is available. Really spectacular mat worker but will surprise you with crazy jumping side kicks and other really good looking strikes. I really love his palm strikes that he uses when he's in the mount not so much to go for a knockout but usually to get his opponent moving and blocking to open them up for a quick submission attempt (usually a jaw droppingly fast cross armbreaker attempt). Ishikawa and Ikeda are great for sure but after watching all the BattlArts on the yearbooks, the two guys I want to see everything of are Otsuka and Carl Greco/Malenko. Also, that earring is hilarious.
  12. I'll need to rewatch them to be fair. My concern was the blanket criticism. So I appreciate that you don't see the entire style that way. If you're interested in continuing with 90s lucha, I would offer up OJ's list here http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/blog/8/entry-77-20-best-lucha-matches-of-the-90s/ It isn't definitive at all and there are some pretty obvious omissions, but I think it will be a better jumping off point for the stuff you like than the 90s DVDVR list.
  13. What is important to keep in mind is that "different psychology" does not mean "no psychology." Criticisms like "Or is it more or less just sitting there dazzled by the bright lights of a fireworks display for twenty minutes before coming out of a coma wondering what the hell you've just seen?" jump off the screen as a very lazy late 90s Wrestlingclassics criticism of Lucha Libre steeped in ignorance. There is more than enough lucha footage out there that people can watch and see that "Lucha" is much more than dives and dazzling highspots (some of it you have watched and rated highly so I don't understand why you're suddenly pretending like you are completely in the dark). Also, the DVDVR 90s Lucha list isn't really a list that holds up (nor should it) as dives and highspots were more what people were looking for back then so it stands to reason that list would contain a lot more fast paced highspotty matches. If that poll was remade today there wouldn't be twice as much Juventud Guerrera as there is El Dandy.
  14. I'm mean there's a guy trying to get other people into Lucha flat-out saying "forget psychology and logic" when you watch this stuff. http://www.mlw.com/clubhouse/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26 If any of this stuff were ever explained properly to us, I'm sure it would be easier for those of us who really struggle hard to "get" Lucha to get into it. Pick any stupid argument and you can find stupid people on the internet advancing it. Doesn't make it any less stupid. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/30977-your-34-matches/?p=5669539 Can you talk about the clear lack of psychology in MS-1 vs Sangre Chicana that you rated 5 stars in spite of being completely lost by the style?
  15. Grimmas and I have remarkably similar Top 10s except I'd have Satanico up there and not Bret Hart But yeah. All of those guys
  16. Wow. What a bummer. I have literally no use for espn if I can't absorb Zach Lowe content.
  17. This Satanico vs Pierroth match isn't the best or most beautiful lucha title match, but I really dig it and would definitely call it a great match and if I don't recommend it no one will
  18. I'm wondering if you can talk about why you needed to see Kawada's and other GOATC matches against scrubs to see how they did against guys who weren't great but "...Lawler was working lesser guys. To me that just doesn't matter Flair's top 20 > Lawler's for most people. That's what I care about." Why does Lawler having great matches against not as great competition not matter to you at all as a comp vs Flair because Flair's top 20 was better but with Kawada (who arguably has a better top 20) you absolutely HAD to see the matches against other guys? Also, this part specifically "Flair's top 20 > Lawler's for most people. That's what I care about." (Underlining added for emphasis because this is where my question comes in. Are you saying what you care about is that most people think Flair's top 20 > Lawler's therefore Flair's is better? I don't think it is what you're saying but the way it is worded, I wanted to be clear?
  19. edit: I opened this thread up to say "All of the BattlArts guys" and saw Dylan's post. I'm binge watching all the BattlArts on yearbooks and while Ikeda vs Ishikawa is obviously the standout feud, Otsuka is the standout worker. This is going to be a weird comparison but watching Otsuka I can't help but think he is the best version of Kurt Angle that could have existed (instead of the darkest timeline version that we got). Otsuka was Angle's vast potential realized. I am really itching to start getting all of the BattlArts footage that's available because Carl Greco is another guy I really love and want to watch all of his matches. What a fun promotion. If I was booking New Japan or All Japan in 96/97 I would try sign all of the BattlArts guys.
  20. We're gonna party like its 1979 tonight baby! Lord Si has put together a ridiculous 1979 playlist full of old Memphis TV episodes, Wahoo McDaniel, Nick Bockwinkel, Jumbo, The Assassin, The FUnks, Steamboat, Orndorff, Snuka, Mid Atlantic! Check this shit out yall! New link http://www.taima.tv/r/1979
  21. This is how I feel. I wanted to look at (extremely limited results with almost no attendance figures) basically to start to get an idea of where he worked and hoped others could help fill in the gaps. Most of what you hear is about Memphis. Like I said in my first post, I had no idea Arizona even had a wrestling loop as I've never seen it discussed ever. I'm not going to say "Well he worked on top in Arizona for 3 months in 1962 so he has to go in." I have a number of Sputnik related goals but really the most important one is to learn more about his career. I think if he was a mid carder his entire career but still played a role in the civil rights movement because of his wrestling fame he deserves to be in. I think it is way more impressive/important/historically significant in a positive manner to use wrestling fame to bring about social change than it is to use wrestling fame to become a joke Governor. (Not saying that anyone here points to that as a reason to vote Jesse but people definitely do.)

    Lizmark

What is the best Lizmark singles match? I keep waiting for him to really knock my socks off in a classic and it never happens. I liked one of the 93 matches with Satanico but it's not one of Satanico's career best matches.
  23. Since the start of the GWE project, who are the workers whose stock is rising and falling for you? Who is rising on your list? Who is falling? What has convinced you one way or the other? No one is allowed to say Ric Flair. For the love of god please no one say Ric Flair. Stock Rising William Regal Regal went from somewhere in the 50s to a very likely top 25 worker. The complaint against Regal was always that he lacked MOTYC type matches and after rewatching or viewing for the first time stuff like the Arn match from SuperBrawl, the Larry Z series, the Hashimoto matches, Finlay from Uncensored, the Chris Hero match from NXT (This is one of my new favorite matches), etc I think Regal has some real classics to his name. Eddie Gilbert A guy I always dug in limited viewings but after binge watching a bunch of 89-90 WCW matches and then his early 90s indy run against Cactus, Funk, etc, I fucking love Eddie Gilbert. He's not someone who could reasonably crack my top 50 but I really like the guy and hes a lock for my list. Wahoo McDaniel The spiritual predecessor to 90s-00s Genichiro Tenryu and I will watch anything he's in. Seriously. I watched a match he had with Nailz in like 1995. It was terrible. But the clips from the 70s and Old Man Wahoo in the 80s is fucking amazing. Chris Adams I "like" Michael Hayes more in Texas, but I think Chris Adams is probably the best worker in World Class. Excellent as a face or heel in singles or tags. Had very good to great matches with Kerry, Kevin, Gordy (he had my favorite Gordy singles match ever), even Terry Taylor and some others I'm forgetting at the moment. I like Kerry and I know Gordy's usually considered great but that's not a murderers row. Butch Reed. I know I'm late on the game on this one. But Butch Reed. Holy shit. Stock Falling ( I hate to be negative and thats not the purpose of this project so I'll make this quick, some of these guys will make my list) Terry Gordy I talked about Gordy in his thread a bit. He had all the tools to be a GOAT contender but didn't put it together. Fit Finlay. Si made me watch a million Fit Finlay WOS matches one day and my opinion has never been lower. He had a few great matches (one in particular against Marty Jones) but he was never the best guy in the match. I should rewatch a lot of his late era WWF stuff to be fair but fuck I just don't ever watch to watch Fit Finlay again after Si's marathon. David von Erich I thought David was terrible even if I did like his jumping knee sometimes. Kerry and Kevin were much more enjoyable. Vader (ducks) Vader is great, I just don't view him as Top 15 guy anymore. Too many workers like Satanico, Fujiwara, Bockwinkel, Buddy Rose, Bill Dundee, Fujinami, Hashimoto, El Dandy, etc. have moved past him.
