  1. What's to explain? Marks will pay him for it. Why make it for free? What a lot of podcasts do, and I think this is smart, is make the last say 20 or 50 free but if you want the older ones you purchase a premium version of the show. Not articulating this right but Meltzer could do this and rake it in even more I think. Plus it would give his show much more exposure. That's what Marc Maron does with WTF. And it worked on me, I went premium to get more old shows
  2. What was everything else?
  3. Think about this. They actually had Lillian announce to the crowd that the Shield lost a six man for the first time. Looking back, they never pushed an unbeaten streak . It was always "it's now their yard!" Or " they're the best team ever" , " who can stop them?" They never really pushed the unbeaten streak deal specifically. If Lillian had to remind the crowd, then maybe it wasn't as big a deal as we take it. A little of six of one half dozen of the other
  4. Fantastic interview with Trish Stratus. She's no brainless chick re: wrestling . Her story about the heel turn at Mania 20 is great.
  5. I just listened to Dave on Colts show and it was a lot of fun. He even made fun of Alverez being scared to go to Mexico.
  6. The spoilers say that Lillian got on the mic and announced to the crowd that this was the Shield's first 6 man loss, so I'm guessing it's being treated as a big deal.
  7. You just say "HE'S GOT A GREAT ASS!"
  8. That's the point I'm making. Maybe they're trying to give SmackDown some cool moments on the Go Home show to a PPV. And honestly, isn't it more realistic to have a big event happen every now and then on a show that's not a PPV? The idea that streaks only get broken or titles only change at PPV's is limiting. And while I know a lot of you don't watch SD every week, I do. So yay!
  9. Dude, I was fucking hooked on Santa Barbara. I got the chicken pox when I was 14 and was laid up on the couch for 2 weeks. We didn't have cable or a remote control, so I just left NBC on all day. Santa Barbara had just started a week earlier so I didn't have to learn all the normal soap sub plots and man it hooked me in bad. I watched it for years.
  10. Comics not selling like they used to has less to do with story tropes then the fact that they cost too fucking much.* Whatever problems comics or Soaps are having aren't due to story telling styles that have been successful for decades. * (Speaking as a guy who collected comics from 1975-2006.)
  11. If it gets people to say " Hey, maybe I should start watching SD." Then I don't see what the problem is.
  12. Except that people remain emotionally invested in Days Of Our Lives like crazy. Super Villain coming back from the dead all the time is a classic story telling bit. In the comics Dr. Doom was always coming back from certain death and no one stopped buying Fantastic Four.
  13. RAW was pretty fucking great tonight, and yeah...Vince was hilarious. Jesus fucking Christ that Bryan/ Rollins match was so fucking good. Oh and they aired a cool "MARK HENRY IS BACK" video.,

    Current WWE

Damian Sandow playing chess with Deep Blue and screaming at the computer was great.
  15. It depends on my mood and what promotion. I have every Clash on DVD and I love watching them in their entirety. And those Memphis studio shows we got last year need to be watched as whole shows.
  16. I have never heard about these until just now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_da...p_opera_ratings Honestly haven't heard of a single one of those shows. This must be the shit you guys don't export. We've always had healthy doses of stuff like Diagnosis Murder and Murder She Wrote though. Staples of the mid-afternoon schedule. The crazy thing about the daytime soaps is that they never stop. They never show reruns, it's 5 days a week 52 weeks a year.
  17. I'd say Soaps, even though they're almost a dead genre, would fit this criteria. That's a good comparison. Lots of people still kinda apologize when admitting they watch or watched Soaps. It's stupid, like John said like what ya like. edit: Yeah Jerry, we have night time soaps that come in and out of vogue, but it's the daytime ones that have been around for decades we're talking about. And they're dying off.
  18. See, I'd imagine that Magnum/ Tully would be on the list. along with Hogan/ Andre at Mania 3. I mean, if you're saying "matches a serious fan would know" then the most famous ones would be ones a serious fan would know.
  19. It was just weird. I've read Dave's Tributes 2 book a bunch of times and never noticed the bit about Bock re: becoming NWA champ until the other day.
  20. I thought that was Strongbow? It was both of them, if I recall.
  21. Two things: 1. Anyone have any info on Dave's "Bock turning down the NWA title in 82" story? 2. Can Jerry and John just fuck already?
  22. Awesome. Hey, here's a little coincidental tidbit that may factor into whatever this thread is. I was just rereading Meltzer's Tributes 2 book during dinner. While reading Hawk's obit again I noticed this. Dave was talking about how hot the AWA was in 82. So hot that Bockwinkel turned down a chance to be the NWA champion, because he felt the money was better in Minneapolis.
  23. Wouldn't you rather be able to see it for free than have to pay for it?
  24. I don't think Ivan is a great choice, I was just saying realistically he was RIGHT THERE and in wrestling sometimes it happens that they'll go with convenience rather than what is the best choice. You will likely not agree at all, but I think Ivan in 83 had a more realistic chance of happening than Patera in 81. If Ivan did get the title, I don't think it would have been in June but likely later. More of a 30-60-day sort of reign. Granted, that would have been a shockingly shit main event for the first Starrcade, but they could have built it up in various ways. NWA vs. old WWWF, USA vs. USSR etc. etc. Plus Nikita is around the corner. I'm not saying it's a great scenario, but if Race wasn't there I can see them looking at it as a possibility. If he hadn't been in a feud with Piper at the time, what about Greg Valentine? Later in this thread, Valentine is talked about.
