  1. Yeah, and in the world of blasting, my Grandpa had a blasting company, the word used to describe a job is "blow"....as in "We're gonna blow a well today."
  2. I'd imagine Marty's recollections would sound something like, "Aw yeah, man. We tore the house down every night with them guys. Stole the show every night. That Somers, I remember this one time I walked in on him in the showers with two of the nastiest lookin' rats I ever did see, and hey says, "Hey Marty, you want some of this?" and I said no way, man..and he says "More for the Pretty Boy, then. Yeah, those were some great matches."
  3. I'd imagine they don't even remember anything about the matches, besides that they happened. Buddy is dead now, but he's talked in great detail about the matches in public forums more than once. Well yeah. Of the four only Buddy would be the guy who I'd think actually would have reflected on them. Didn't he collect tons and tons of footage? I remember hearing that on a F4W show some years back.Shawn and Marty don't strike me as guys who would give two thoughts about the matches and probably remember parties and road stories more than how they decided to format a match. And Somers strikes me as a guy who's probably brain dead from meth by this point.
  4. I'd imagine they don't even remember anything about the matches, besides that they happened.
  5. Kid? Thanks, brother. I only goof around, bust balls, and argue with the people I either like a lot, like you Dylan.....or I think are certifiably insane...and I like them the best.
  6. I loved the first cage match because it was totally based on the emotions the feud is based on. The Rockers run into the cage to get their hands on these two cheating fuckers and unleash all their frustration, and Rose and Somers have nowhere to run thanks to the cage. THEN in the next cage match, Rose and Somers try to hold the door closed as the Rockers are trying to enter, because the last time, they got their asses kicked when the Rockers rushed into the cage. This time, they'll try to hold them back to "fuck with the Rockers game plan". The entire feud is chapters of a great story.
  7. Never complain about analysis again Nah, I think I'll just do whatever I want to do whenever I want to do it.
  8. We did a great show tonight. Lotsa fun. My rankings: 1. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Midnight Rockers (Cage Match) (12/25/86) 2. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Midnight Rockers (Cage Match) (1/17/87) 3. Nick Bockwinkel vs. Curt Hennig (12/25/86) 4. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Midnight Rockers (1/27/87) 5. Nick Bockwinkel vs. Larry Zbyszko (11/27/86) 6. Col. Debeers vs. Jerry Blackwell (Ladder Match) (11/27/86) 7. Leon White vs. Boris Zuhkov (2/21/87) These are the tightest rankings yet. The only definites are Lil' Vader/ Boris last and the Christmas Cage match first. Matt, I love ya, but you're insane re: that cage match. It was awesome and was a major part of the overall story the feud was telling.
  9. I'm looking forward to being a part of this.
  10. A 45 minute draw wouldn't have meant anything, though. Curt going a full hour with the champ meant something. The perception was that a full hour really meant something. Whether or not they could have had "a better match" in 45 is completely not a factor here. Part of what makes the match great are the intangibles, and first among them is "It went an hour!" in the kayfabe sense.
  11. Super fun show filled with amazing insight, marking out, rasslin' history, the AWA as "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", and more podcast awesomeness than you can shake Buddy Rose's ass at.
  12. I don't know if it's actually true, but I remember reading that "Rap Is Crap" actually got airplay on Country radio.
  13. Yup.
  14. Actually, we went nuts and did a shitload in one week. We'll be doing a new one post haste, I'd imagine.
  15. Well, the joke apparently. (God, I love "Zelig")
  16. He's always said that the last few years at WCW basically killed his love for wrestling, and left him depressed with no self confidence.
  17. I was more surprised that they mentioned Dave on a WWE DVD. Then again, after seeing vol. 1 and watching this one now, they're pretty much letting DDP say whatever he wants, and it's all WCW praise.
  18. Well, duh. Who wants to analyze pro wrestling matches? (There's a reason why the word starts with "anal") That's crazy. I think that watching wrestling with friends and having fun doing so is a far more productive way to come to conclusions. And all pro wrestling is about violence in one way or another. Guys are pretending to be violent towards each other. If you write or talk about wrestling at all you are analyzing it on some level. If you choose to do that with a group of friends via phone call and find that to be "far more productive" that is fine, but let's not pretend you aren't analyzing things when you are. Oh totally. I was just coming back to edit that post to say that. And to say that I wasn't trying to come off as a dick, and I'm sorry if I did. I guess what I really meant to say was that wrestling is meant to elicit emotion from the crowd/ viewers. And sometimes being super analytical about anything, let alone wrestling, can blind you to that. But if that's how you dig watching wrestling, then hey, whatever floats yer boat. There's no "right" or "wrong".
  19. I picked up that Best of Nitro Vol. 2 DVD set today on a whim and a sale at Wal-Mart. I totally forgot how much I marked out when Arn beat Hogan that first time. It was awesome, and the promos at the announce desk to end the show were fucking insane. Edit: Well here's something that surprised me. DDP hosts this DVD just like the first one. At one point he talks about how "Dave Meltzer's rookie of the year award for 1992" went to Rey and he came in second.
  20. And no love for our Revenge of the Nerds stuff? Kris had me laughing so hard I was crying.
  21. Rick Rude always came off as a star. I loved the guy. And he was half of the greatest tag team of all time. Ravishing and Raging, The REAL Rn R Express, ""Ravishing" Rick Rude and "The Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez.
  22. I just want to again say how awesome that Hennig/ Hansen match is. I love that when Curt was trying backdrops and shit like that, it looked good, but when he was brawling he was fucking hardcore. Like, "You kicked my ass last time, this time I'm gonna give it right back to ya." And normally draws kinda blow, but not here. Going the time limit and hanging with Hansen fucking made Curt. Super fun match.
  23. And as far as Blackwell/ Hansen goes, it makes perfect sense for these two giant rednecks to just beat the fuck out of each other. Hansen had attacked Jerry previously, Jerry wanted to fuck him up and Stan backs down from no man. The only disappointing thing is that there was no follow up because Stan left the AWA. And Will just wrote what I was gonna. If blood and violence was all I liked, I'd like CZW, etc, and I generally hate that light tube shit. "There is no set way wrestling should be performed all the time." Exactly. I mean, Pulp Fiction took normal structure and threw it out the window. It's still a great movie.
  24. "Macho Man" Randy Savage is my pick as the greatest Professional Wrestler of all time.
