    See, that's where the whole "Icon of WCW" thing comes from, that worked as part of the Crow/ NWO stuff. Sting was this big deal because in the world of a lot of wrestling fans, he was. Most kids who loved WCW back in the early to mid-nineties weren't aware of the fact that Sting wasn't a big draw, but he was on the TV show they loved as the big star. Add in him never going to Vince along with selling new fans at the start of the mid-90's boom all about him being the "Icon", and there ya go. As far as actual drawing people to live shows goes, it's like Zenk said about all the fans dressed as chairs.

    Yes, he was. There have been tons of TV Stars over the years. Sting was one of them, so was Rikishi.

    Worked for me, especially since the end of the show kicked ass. That Kane/ Punk match was good shit. Kane actually getting the win to give us all an actual feel good moment on a WWE show, but still moving ahead the angle into something to care about besides "Punk Title reign vs The Streak" was great. And yes, it's all because of Paul Bearer's passing. And I'm not always the biggest "that's what he would have wanted" type, I'm thinking it this case, it's cool. I marked out when Kane won, and Taker and him did the salute with Percy up on the screen, and when Punk attacked Kane with urn, stole it, mocked Taker, and then Taker did the "YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD." throat slash? Shit...I'm all about this match now. I want to see Punk get his ass kicked.

    Nah, it'll be a schmozz. Shit'll go down to give the Mania match some more reason to happen besides staring at each other and taking turns hitting moves on McIntyre.

    I think what he's getting at that Sting was a TV star. And he was. For a period of time, when the NWO deal/ Crow stuff was going on and Nitro was a hit show, Sting was a star on that TV show. As far as that having anything to do with the WO HOF, I don't think it has much bearing.

    I remember liking the Ranger Ross vs "The Terrorist" match from that Clash at The Citadel because it was so ridiculous.

    To be fair, when I went back and watched Crusher again, I really thought he stunk.

    Never at any point did I feel like they were actually wrestling. It felt like an exhibition of armbars, submissions, and cartwheels. I DID like the one cool criss cross spot. And then Brad crotches himself and he apparently has the biggest and most sensitive nutsack in the world, as he's acting like someone shot him in the balls point blank with a shotgun...and then Martel's there to hold him, massage his sack, and refuse to win. Face vs. face is fine, but not this one.

    See, I generally like Brad, and I LOVE Martel. But the match stinks and the finish is ridiculously awful.

    That whole thing with Kerry seemed like them testing the waters of being friendly with Fritz. Fritz was about the only guy who had a locked in territory with stars who wouldn't leave and fans who were completely loyal to those stars. Right, I remember reading about that years later. When Vince went full "there is nothing but the WWF" hardcore was really big in 86-87 when they had the mass influx of Watts guys. As a 16 year old wrestling geek, it drove me nuts.

    The old story I recall was Vince wanting Backlund to dye his hair green and become a "punk rocker".

    I remember in 84 every now and then WWF would acknowledge stuff. I clearly remember them congratulating Kerry Von Erich for his NWA title win. And there was the Piper's Pit with Valentine where they "made up".

I always loved him as Percy, and even though I personally thought Paul Bearer was annoying, he brought a lot to The Undertaker gimmick for years and was over as rover.

    No, that was fun when I did it in 1990. This shit sucks. Maybe YOU thought it was fun, but maybe your friends thought you were a babbling idiot who wouldn't shut up about Parts Unknown. I'm sure I was talking to the trees in my pal's backyard, actually.

    This match fucking rules, and there's some great fan stuff here. I especially love the little old man with his legs crossed who's just "tickled pink" at Flair falling over the rail, and the guy walking by ringside with a couple of beers and a little kid with cotton candy following him, and the dude takes the time to jaw at Arn. This is also probably the first time I've gotten to hear Hayes and Lance as a team, and they're great together.

    See, I didn't watch the PPV the night before or read anything about it. I just got home from work, and got a text from a pal telling me Benoit was dead. I went online, saw that the family was dead and my first thought honestly was Carbon Dioxide based on the fact that I'd been deluged with radio ads about it at the time and the idea of a sick family annihilation didn't enter my mind. I then sat down and watched the show. I went online after and the truth was pretty much out. Freaked me the fuck out.
