The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Johnny Sorrow replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Well, for one, ad people aren't necessarily looking down on wrestling fans -- they just get that it isn't a demographic with money to burn. Now, I realize that these companies generally aren't selling expensive items...but what companies are looking down their nose or "not wanting the demographic" re: advertising on WWE because of the money spending potential of wrestling fans? DeBeer's Diamonds? Porsche? Grey Poupon? -
And Punk is so good at this point, nothing is gonna kill him. Shit, he's the leader of the worst gang in recent memory and he's getting them over and having fun. People are still booing him loudly, so there ya go.

According to Show, being sent to OVW was less about his weight than it was his attitude and cardio. Or something like that. It was in his DVD. And Vader saying "I'm a fat peice of shit.", while really weird, was more about some sort of "he needs his killer instinct back" than it was his weight. Wasn't that supposed to be part of that aborted deal where he and Ron Simmons were being approached by Callis? -
I don't think Punk's losses have hurt him at all. Does anybody actually watch wrestling and think, "I can't buy this guy anymore because he lost some matches?" Especially when it's a bad guy who is supposed to get his comeuppance.

Dude, don't you realize that it's all an evil plan by the maniacal Vince to "kill the Lucha tradition!". I can see him now, in the penthouse office suite at Titan Towers, swilrling his brandy while looking out to the horizon. "So, these Mexicans have their beloved Lucha Libre...well not for long. Soon, I will destroy their beloved lucha and Entertainment will reign supreme! BWAH HA H0-HA-H0HA-HA!"

I don't recall ever seeing anything like that in the Apter mags. I recall seeing ads for tapes in the Observer around 1986. In fact, there was one that said it had Rich/ Sawyer "Last Battle In Atlanta" that led me to believe that it actually existed for years and years.
-
We got ours in 85 and I immediately started taping everything. I had an amazing tape collection of WWF, Pro Wrestling USA, WorldWide, World Class, World Class Classics, and Mid South/ UWF. As well as all sorts of official releases. Sadly, they ended up in my Aunt's garage and have never been seen since 1989.

Wasn't it worded in such a way that the complaint was that they were using their "intellectual property" to portray representatives of WWF on their TV who were, in fact, not employed by Vince?

Steph being a pot smoking, "fun" girl in college just makes me like her. -
From Dave's Savage Obit:

Randy Savage, Amway Salesman has me rolling. Edit: This sounds hilarious The Jewish Wrestling Diamond Wholesaler! That's new. "We got two honkies out there, dressed like Hasidic diamond merchants."

The current classic Observer 3/21/94 is really awesome. It covers the Tonya Harding becoming a wrestler in Japan story, the buildup to Mania ten that he felt was going to be an awful show, lots of USWA and Smokey Mountain news, the AAA show on 3/12 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, and a great Reader's page with SMW rep K.C. O'Connor going off on Bob Barnett. edit:

Wasn't Vince pissed about Savage taking all that Slim Jim advertising money with him to WCW?

I just heard Dave ask Alverez, when talking about Del Rio's promo at the PPV.... "Are there lots of coffee shops in Seattle?"

I'll be 41 come June. It's always nice to see that some folks online talking wrestling are older than me.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists

Todd Martin not getting it: Yes, Del Rio pretending that his henchman was dumb and ran over Show "accidentally" is the same as Riley getting insulted by Miz one times too many and epically kicking his former boss' ass. -
I hated myself for thinking it, but "He combined both classic wrestling deaths, car crash and heart attack" popped into my head. I feel bad for that, as I said...Savage was and always will be my true favorite wrestler ever. And here's what I mean about "crazy bad ass hippie". He was a Deadhead's wrestler.

Man, at work today I get a text from a pal that just said, "Macho Man died". I went to a computer to check and there it was. I didn't have time to think much about it then. Now that I'm home, this really is a kick in the gut. Savage was my favorite wrestler (not named Jimmy Valiant), and this just stinks. I had almost forgotten that until recently when I watched the Memphis set and got his DVD. He truly was the best, in my opinion. I remember that the first time I saw him was in an Apter mag that had an article about him and Lawler doing a loser leaves town match. But the first time he showed up on Saturday Morning TV I was one hooked 14 year old. I didn't cheer many heels at all back then, probably only Muraco, but Savage quickly became my favorite guy to watch. When he beat Tito in Boston for the IC Belt they showed it on tv and even though I was a huge Tito fan, I didn't care that Savage cheated. I was happy that he won the belt. Everything about him, the crazy interviews, the utter CRISPNESS of everything he did, the wild look in his eyes, the cool pink tights, and the awesome robes. He was a crazy bad ass hippie, and he was the best pro wrestler I ever saw.

The best part of that Joe tribute to Hashimoto was Joe saying that Hash said to him, "If you feel that fire on your dick, see a doctor." -
Jason? Anyway, sorry. I was being mean.

If there's no footage of it, why would you say it be "the ladder match"? Were you there? That's like me saying "Tommy Rich/ Buzz Sawyer: Last Battle Of Atlanta" cage match should be on there as best cage match. Except that there are pictures of that match at least and it's considered legendary thanks to the Apter Mags. But since there's no footage, I can't honestly say it was great.

I still love "The Unreal Story Of Professional Wrestling" the best. With all of it's mistakes and myths and bullshit, it's still the most fun wrestling documentary.

That did not happen. They got a ton of offense on DX and got a visual pin on Shawn. That was as close as anyone was getting to beating DX. I thought they had two matches, the one you describe and another one that was a squash of sorts. Am I imagining that?
